New author for me and I must say Olivia Isaac-Henry really captivated me with this soul searching novel.
Tess Piper has struggled for twenty years to come to terms with the disappearance of her twin sister Edie, drinking heavily to numb her pain.
Out of the blue she gets a phone call asking her to return home as a body has been found. At long last will this answer all her questions about what happened to Edie all those years ago or will it raise more questions than answers ?
A family torn apart by trauma, who is guilty, could it really be one of the family or was it an outsider.
Plenty twists and turns before the truth is finally revealed.

I would only give this book two stars. It didn’t wow me or grip me the way I expected it to. Hard to get into the storyline and hard to stay engaged with.

The story is then told in two timelines Edie from 1998 and Tess from 2018, Tess has to come home and try to find out the truth of her sister's death...... but as the family secrets start to come out how close to home is it?

A good family saga/thriller there are plenty of twists and turns along the way, and although I didn't find the main characters particularly likeable I didn't think that detracted from the story

On the surface this seems a fairly straightforward story...when they were fourteen, Tess’s twin sister disappeared. Nobody knows what happened to her - until her body is found years later and the case is reopened.
What we learn - through Tess’s investigations and Edie’s story told in flashback - is that the lives of these girls was far more complicated than we’re first led to believe. Their family harbours a number of secrets, some of which cause more of an effect than we realised.
This was a reasonably well-plotted novel, with characters that were (for the most part) interesting.

Tess goes on a mission to find out who killed sister going back into the past and speaking to Edies old friends and boyfriend.

With plenty of twists and turns through the book you will be kept turning the pages. A good book.

I thought the premise of this novel looked good but I didn't warm to any of the characters unfortunately. The pacing was a bit off for me as well.

Not the most memorable book to be honest. Read it but wasn't wowed by it. Not one for me.

Someone You Know was a long read for me. The characters felt remote, and despite all my attempts to get to grips with it, all effort to work out who the twins were and why we were here was wasted while my head spun with too many back stories.

It took me a while to get into this story, maybe because I was reading two other books at the same time! I couldn't really engage with either Tess or Edie and didnt really care for any of the other characters either. A reasonably enjoyable read but could have been better.

This book didn't seem to flow for me . I didn't emotionally connect with the characters. I liked it but I wouldn't say I loved it.

Twins they may be, but they are unalike in so many ways. Edie is popular and confident and does well at school. Tess is none of the above. However, something happens one afternoon when the girls are teenagers and Edie is never seen again. Fast-forward two decades and a body has been found of a young girl. Could it be Edie? Tess is forces to confront the demons of her past in the search for truth. What really happened to her sister? The book was OK - enjoyable enough to keep reading, but I found the continual jumping of time frames and points of view a little confusing. I also did not find any of the main characters particularly likeable.

This was an OK read for me. I wanted to love it but I think the flow of it just didn't grip me. Not sure if I'd read another by this author.

This was not my favorite thriller, after reading so many I must be thrilled and chilled, which I unfortunately I didn’t feel this book did completely. I think it needed a bunch more suspense and to be a little less easy to figure out. Although, it is a solid 3 read and worth reading,

This story is a fusion of family drama and psychological thriller and it works. Tess Piper is an unreliable protagonist, she is still grieving the disappearance of her twin sister twenty years later and lives her life on the edge as a memorial to her twin. She drinks and smokes too much and is estranged from her close family.

Told from the twins’ points of view, one historic and one present day, the background to Edie’s disappearance and its subsequent effect on Tess and her family’s life is explored. The characters are believable and in most cases hard to empathise, but you do understand why they are as they are.

When a body is found, Tess has to return home and confront the secrets she’s been hiding from. The story is easy to read but much of it is dark and you feel Tess and her family’s emotional angst. The plot is deceptively simple, but just as you think you know what happened, another piece in the puzzle is revealed and another player introduced.

This is an authentic family drama, full of poignant events. I did manage to work who betrayed Edie but not all the circumstances.

A well thought out domestic thriller with strong characters and a clever plot.

The answers might lie closer to home than anyone could ever have anticipated, least of all Tess herself.

This is a riveting novel that had me turning pages long into the night to reach a conclusion that I never saw coming. A suspenseful read that will satisfy anyone wanting to lay their hands on an unputdownable mystery.

I’m a sucker for a good thriller or crime novel so when I read the synopsis for this novel, I knew I had to take a read. I’ve read a fair few so I’m familiar with the different plots as well as the numerous tropes and twists, some of which I enjoy and others which I tend to stay away from. Keeping that in mind this novel provided some familiar features of a good thriller as well as some room for changes.

Perspectives – The story is split between the perspective of Tess and Edie. I liked the symmetry there – seeing as they’re twins, it makes sense in more ways than one. The plot moves between the events of the past, prior to Edies disappearance and in the present day when the investigation resurfaces once her body is found. This was effective in establishing how different the sisters are as well as heightening the tension and dramatic irony. SO MUCH DRAMATIC IRONY, which I personally quite enjoyed.

Protagonist – Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve had enough of main characters who just drink copious amounts of alcohol and smoke in exchange for having any sort of complexity or personality. It was okay in The Girl on The Train but in this novel it just became jarring. Tess has always lived in the shadows of her more popular and beautiful twin, and is a deeply insecure person. She always thinks that people are comparing her to Edie and while I realise that sometimes this could be the case, eventually it just feels a bit redundant. You can only blame others up to a certain point to be honest, Tess just makes terrible decisions, is too self pitying and it was frustrating by the end.

Characters – I’m not a reader who needs or even wants characters in a novel to be likeable or relatable but I have to say that the characterisation in this novel was the weakest point for me. I didn’t find myself rooting for any of them except for Edie as she obviously didn’t deserve the hand she was dealt. Tess and Edies parents were bizarre and just basically pretty terrible at parenting. Their Uncle Ray was a womaniser who was uncomfortably fond of Edie – like majorly creepy and had me questioning him at every turn. The neighbours Valentina and Tom didn’t provide much in terms of substance and they had way too much air time for so little contribution to the actual mystery.

Twists + Ending – This is the saving grace of the novel in my opinion, the way the plot unfolds is fun to read and the ending was good. While some readers may find it predictable it is still decent enough and takes you on a journey for sure. The bones of the story was good but lacking in execution.
Overall, while I was intrigued by the synopsis and found some positives in the story – I think there’s definite room for improvement. This novel had such great potential so with some more practice and finesse, I’m sure Olivia Isaac- Henry will be on her way to some great work in the future and I would be happy to read any other novels.

Another new author and another very good read.
Tess & Eddie are twin sisters, Eddie has been missing for 20 years, Tess has never given up hope that she is alive, she refuses to believe otherwise. Her life’s is then turned upside down when she answers the phone to her dad, a body has been found in the reservoir, the police believe it is Eddie and the investigation is being reopened. Tess returns home to her dads, she feels the police aren’t asking the right questions or speaking to the right people so she begins her own investigation.
She thinks she knows her family, but discovers they all have secrets, she knows her dad isn’t telling her everything, her own delving into the past reveals that her mum had stepped out deliberately in front of the driver who killed her, it wasn’t an accident, why would her mum have done that, she always seemed happy.
The chapters go back and forth between Eddie in the past and Tess in the present day. It’s well written and keeps the reader guessing right to the end. I changed my mind a few times about who killed Eddie and why. Well deserving of 4 stars.

I could not have been more impressed with this book. The character development was amazing and compelling. Tess (the left behind sister) returns to face the loss of her twin sister, Edie, after they finally find her body after 20 years of being missing. What follows is the story of how she finds out what happens and the backward and forward view of both twins different point of views. This book was well written and kept me guessing until the end. This novel explores the disappearance of Edie Piper. The book is through the eyes of Edie's sister, Tess, who returns to her family home after receiving news about Edie, who disappeared many years ago. Tess begins to look further into the disappearance of her sister, and, in doing so, unearths some hidden family secrets.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly. I thought the characters, especially Tess and her father, were well crafted and developed, and I enjoyed the mystery of Edie's disappearance. The author blends the past and the future well and explores the months leading up to the disappearance through Edie's eyes.

A fast moving story full of twists and turns. Told in two time frames and from the angle of two very different twins, many secrets are revealed along the way, leading to a final surprising ending.
