Thea and Rupert are parents to Nell and baby Zander. Thea runs a mail order children’s clothing company called Just Enfant. Thea has a long time friend, Isla, with whom she often goes out and they end up drinking way too much.

Flora lives with Isla and helps her with the business. They are good friends and the children enjoy Flora as well.

One day, Thea and Isla, along with Nell and Zander had gone out for the day. The women once again drank too much and when they got home, they started drinking even more and fell asleep on the sofa. The day was a scorcher. Thea was awakened by her friend, Flora who had baby Zander in her arms. The poor child was dead as he had been left in the hot car. How could Thea leave her baby in the car?? Now, she is shunned by neighbors and Rupert hates her.

Now, Thea and Rupert are estranged and Thea is facing a trial for the death of Zander. She is allowed to have Nell stay with her several days a week. Thea still drinks from time to time but works hard to control it.

Annabelle and her husband, Greg, are like a golden couple. They are the parents of 3 children, live in a huge home, and Annabelle is a wonderful cook, mother, hostess, and wife. Greg has a fabulous job and Annabelle runs her own events business. Flora is now living with her and working with her business and are quite successful with it. Annabelle's daughter, Millie, is good friends with Thea’s daughter, Nell, and the girls get together frequently.

As Thea’s trial comes closer, Thea is now second guessing herself about what happened that day. Although she was very drunk, she can’t help but think there is no way she would have left her baby to die in that hot car. Or did she?

Could it be possible that Thea is innocent or is she just fantasizing her innocence? Who would be evil enough to purposely place a baby in a car and leave him to die?

This compelling book builds slowly and we get to know the different characters and how they interact with one another. This is a very good book and the horror of what a parent would face in a case like this is straight out of the headlines where, sadly, we read about it happening often. The end was really surprising. I think readers will really enjoy this one. I did and highly recommend it.

Am I Guilty begins like pretty much every other domestic thriller, but it's when the sense of creeping unease becomes palpable after the first couple of chapters that it truly picks up speed and continues to hurtle down the line like a runaway train. Whether mother Thea actually has amnesia, has a problem with repressed memories something humans do to forget or is purely an unreliable narrator is rather unclear for most the novel and adds to its unpredictable charm. Couple this with prejudicial small-town gossip and eyeballing aplenty the accusation of what she did and how she failed in the most spectacular way as a mother has the power to bring her down and completely destroy her as a person.

Packed full of real emotion and many twists, turns and instances of backstabbing, this book encapsulates why we should all think things through a little more before proceeding as the consequences have the potential to be catastrophic. Well written with a small cast of interesting characters and those with ulterior motives; I thoroughly enjoyed this and found it struck the perfect balance between keeping the thrills and surprises coming, moving along at pace and being quite an emotive story.

I really deep psychology thriller, that’s fast paced, twists and turns all through the book, it’s one of those you just can not put down. Need to know exactly what happened. It’s also It’s a, extremely well written as well as a fantastic novel. your are pulled into this book with such an incredible emotional journey of sadness, anger, also not quite believing that a mother would or could be so irresponsible. Deep down I felt there was much more to this story, oh boy from a readers point of view. This is one of the best psychology thrillers I have read in a long time. I do recommend you read the book, just try to keep in mind, you will be affected emotionally

A painful book. How do you cope with everyone knowing, and live with yourself for, leaving your baby in the car on the hottest day of the year because you were too drunk to remember him. Does anyone actually believe that you have no memory of the day.

I found the book to be exciting but a little long winded.

Well I wasn't expecting that ending! I was so convinced part way through that I knew the gist of what had happened, and some of my guesses were correct but many other things occurred too much to my delight.

I was completely gripped in this story, told from various viewpoints, about a mother's worst nightmare.

There were times during this that I suspected everyone, at other times I was completely convinced that Thea was truly guilty - it was incredibly hard to know who to believe.

It also can't work out how to phrase anything that I want to say about this story, in light of what I know now about how it all ends. I suspect its best if you read the blurb, and read the book for yourself. You won't be disappointed - it truly is a gripping story.

I read the book in just a couple of sittings, even reading in bed when my eyes were feeling really blurry as I just wanted to read another chapter or two... but then there was another mini surprise that made me want to keep turning the pages even past my blatant need to sleep.

I had read some cosy mysteries previously from Jackie Kabler, and enjoyed them, but this has really stepped up a gear and is a full blown psychological drama - it crept under my skin, and may continue to cling onto me for a while after finishing it.

Definitely an author I want to read more from, and wow with that ending, I am very very curious what Jackie Kabler has in store for us all next!

This was a great book, a very easy read and I enjoyed this new author!! I always love reading new things by new people and this one didn’t disappoint. It was east to follow along and held your attention quite well. High Praise for this one! Thank you!

One moment I had it all - a gorgeous husband, a beautiful home, a fulfilling career and two adorable children. Next, it came crashing down around me.

I loved this book. It had me gripped from the first few chapters. It's full of twists and the suspense just grows with each turn of the page. Thea's life has just been shattered by the death of her son Zander. Thea is accused of his death. The events leading up to the tragedy, Thea can't remember, but she believes what she is being told, that she is solely responsible for her sons death. This is a fast paced, well written book and I just couldn't put it down. I do recommend this book.

First of all with that cover how can you resist this book! Stunning!!

Am I Guilty is certainly a rollercoaster of emotions with a tough subject at the core. There are times when you feel sorry for the characters and other times that you want to strangle them. The ending completely threw me - I did pick what had happened and sort of who but not the twist the author spun - very clever. It was a bit slow to begin with but once it got going it never really let go - a great book about a hard subject.

One tragic event, a mistake by a mother, changes the lives of so many people. Thea can't remember a lot of what happened that fateful day but is told a story that breaks her. Without saying too much something happens to her child that you would never wish on anybody. Thea is told that she is to blame, but she can't believe that she would do it. As the trial looms she slowly starts to regain her memory and realises that somebody close to her has done this to her - but why and how? All the characters have secrets that they want to stay hidden.

I loved this book! There's not much to go off of by the summary, so you may not know what to expect, but that's because it's hard to talk about it without giving anything way. Let's just say that a family tragedy happens, the mother, Thea, becomes a pariah but soon realizes that there may be more to what happened than anyone realizes. Except those involved, of course. Which soon appears to be everyone in her life...

The story is told from multiple points of view from everyone involved and each time the perspective changes, you learn a little more about each person and their memories. There's a lot of romantic drama between the two main families involved and so much heartbreak felt by the parents and the siblings. It's really gut-wrenching at times. Little pieces of the truth are slowly revealed and you'll find yourself dying to reach the end to find out what really happened. Those seasoned readers will most likely catch on to what has happened, but even so, it doesn't keep you from devouring page after page.

Even with all the books I read, this one will always stand out - it just has that impact on you. I love getting so much more than expected out of a story and this is a prime example of that. I can't wait to read more from this author because I'm officially hooked!

Five stars and I’d add an extra one if I could, it’s that good. Rarely do I read a psychological thriller and not know until the end who was responsible for the devastating action at the center of this novel. More importantly, I was so deep into the writing and the story that the last few pages could have been missing - almost. Every summer we read a heartstopping news story of a young child dying after accidentally bring left in the back of an overheated car. This novel tells the story of one such child, Zander. Was it the mother, who was drunk, after a boozy lunch, or was it someone else?

4.5 stars for me !

I LOVED this book! Mesmerizing, original, and what a story! I couldn't put it down. One of the best suspense mysteries I have ever read. Don't wan to give away the plot so let me just say that this book will have you in the edge of your seat, and you won't be able to put it down u til the very end. Fabulous!

I absolutely loved this book. Every parents worst nightmare. Heart breaking, fast paced & so many twists. I would recommend this to anyone.

I have previously read The Dead Dog Day by Jackie Kabler which I did enjoy but remember early on in that book working out who the murderer was. When the cover was revealed for her new novel Am I Guilty I was instantly intrigued and headed off to Amazon to read the synopsis and straight away my interest was piqued and I was looking forward finding out if this storyline could keep me guessing.
Thea is living a nightmare, her happy content world has been turned upside down by the death of her son Zander and its all her thought …… Or is it?
I found myself sympathetic to the situation Thea found herself in and I was convinced from early on that what she believed had happened on the day in question wasn’t true. Each of the chapters alternate mainly between Thea, Flora and Annabelle with addition of a couple of chapters by Isla, Rupert and Greg which allows us to get to know each of the characters as well as forming a picture of the events of that day through their eyes. Although there are a lot of characters pointsof view in this book they were all well-formed and at no point in the book did I lose track on who was who.
Am I Guilty is in a completely different league to Jackie Kabler’s previous novels, this one had me totally gripped and in suspense the whole way through. At around the half way mark I did have my suspicions as to who I thought may have had a hand in the events of Zanders death but even though I had these inklings the tension then intensified and what was then revealed towards the last few chapters was a complete shock that was disturbing and unpredictable and I found myself constantly wavering thinking everyone seemed to have a motive.
Without giving anything away I just have to say the way things are left between Thea and Annabelle is much more amicable than I would have been had I been in the same situation!
Am I Guilty is a gripping and sinister storyline full of hidden secrets and fractured relationships. I am now looking forward to future novels by Jackie Kabler.

What a fantastic book which I thoroughly enjoyed, it is a good paced psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning to the end.

I really enjoyed the way this author writes and I didn't guess the ending, it is a brilliant debut thriller from Jackie Kabler and I will be looking out for more books from this author.

But as her memory gradually becomes clearer, and her recollections become sharper, Thea is certain that she has acted dutifully with regard to her son's care. Yet that would leave only one explanation. Someone close to Thea is responsible for Zander's death and is happy for Thea to take the fall. But what possible motive could there be for the murder of an eight-month-old child?

This is a fast-paced and gripping thriller that I could not put down, Full of twists and turns, the final outcome will have you picking your jaw up off the floor. This is an author to watch.

The plot is solid and suspenseful building up the tension up until the end, and what an ending that was?

The narrative beautifully captures the harrowing experience and the myriad of emotions a parent in such unthinkable situation would experience. Highly recommended.
