This excerpt from Priory of the Orange Tree offers a promising start to an epic fantasy adventure, and the novel boasts several commendable elements. One of its standout features is the meticulously crafted world-building. Samantha Shannon introduces readers to a vast and intricate realm populated by dragons, mages, and political intrigue. The depth of detail and cultural diversity create a vivid and immersive backdrop that sets the stage for an expansive narrative.

The diverse cast of characters adds to the richness of the story, offering a mix of perspectives and motivations. Each character is distinctively drawn, with their unique qualities and complexities. This diversity not only contributes to the narrative's depth but also fosters a sense of inclusivity in the fantasy genre.

It is an enjoyable read due to the author's elegant and evocative prose. The descriptive language used to paint the landscapes and characters helps create a lush and enchanting atmosphere. This attention to detail extends to the lore surrounding dragons and the magical elements, adding layers to the fantastical elements of the plot.

This excerpt lays a solid foundation for an epic fantasy tale with impressive world-building, well-drawn characters, and evocative prose. While the slow pacing may pose a challenge for some readers, the promise of a rich and expansive narrative makes it worth the investment for fans of intricate fantasy worlds.

I love this book, it does have a slow start but once the action picked up I couldn't put it down. Be prepared for a slow burn, there's a lot of world building but it is worth it in the end.

Samantha Shannon pulls you into a lush and interesting world from the beginning, and this extract does nothing but convince you that you must get your hands on a copy of Priory as soon as possible—and preferably sooner!

It is evident already the time, research, and passion that has gone into building this world, from the political systems down to etymology. It’s no surprise that Shannon is a favourite in epic fantasy.

A sampler that gives you just enough to get hooked on the story without revealing too much, leaving you wanting more- about 800 pages of it, in fact.

The beginning of the story is already so promising! The Bone Season series is one of my absolute favorites, so I'm hoping to finish this book after the excerpt soon!
(Characters I didn't like here don't exist)
Tané is my favorite <3

I already find out that this book will definitely freak me out for it’s length but I would know that I would enjoy this.

From the snippet, I find that it was detailed but also just a little bit too much that would be thrown off.

Overall, it really intrigued me so I’m eyeing this one.
