I downloaded the early extract of Priory of The Orange Tree as I'm not always 100% involved the fantasy genre, but I do like Samantha Shannon's Bone Season series. In fact, I really like it so that's what swayed me.
Unfortunately I couldn't get into this one. The world seems very big and I was overloaded with lots of characters, terms, and places all at once, which distracted me from getting invested in any characters or plot. That's not to say I won't try again, but I wouldn't be reading this soon.
Samantha Shannon does lots of research into her mythology, and really does love world building and going the extra mile and she is so passionate about this book, so it would be great for fans of the high fantasy genre.

I am a sucker for books with dragons! I read the extract which was about the first 80 pages of an 800 page book(!). It really sets the stage to be an epic fantasy novel. The point of view shifts between multiple characters and places. Much of the extract is setting the stage for the rest of the book; lots of backstory of both main characters and countries as well as current political intrigue. I found myself flipping back to the map frequently to figure out the places that were being referenced. This book will be a time commitment and use some brain power to track the multiple storylines, but I think it will be well worth it.

I found I really difficult to get into this book. The beginning was rough and confusing there was the least effort made to explain the complex world and it's inhabitants.

It was exciting and catching but still rather complicated and I couldn't build a relationship with the characters. It also started out rather slow so it was hard to read on for me.

I think it has potential but not for me right now. Maybe after I've read some reviews and got a bit more info about the world.

OMG I NEED THIS BOOK NOW!

Samantha Shannon has knocked it out of the park with this book. Also I can I just say DRAGONS.

I loved it even though it was confusing since the setting and the characters were new but I sure had fun navigating through it and understanding it!

I don't really have much to say yet except it sounds really exciting and I can not wait to go and start reading ahead with the book that I have just bought! It's safe to say I think it will be a 5-star read overall!

Although I only got the extract for this book. I enjoyed it, the story starts off strong definitely bordering epic fantasy. I wish I could have read it all.

I am so excited to read the rest of this novel; I have purchased it. The premise is so fascinating, great for fantasy fans for myself. Also happy to see a long, standalone fantasy book.

This is a good incipit. The stories seems interesting and I like the principal female character. I want to read more!

This first few chapters were amazing. I already have the ebook waiting. I initially found it hard to get into only because I connect more to some of the main characters but so far so good. Let's hope that lasts.

Interesting story, but I don't think I'll be reading this book anytime soon. It was a bit of a slow start for me.

This was just an excerpt, but this book is extremely hyped and I can't wait to read more. Dragons, adventure, and a MASSIVE page count. What more could you want?

I wanted the book in its entirety, however, with this extract of the Priory of the Orange Tree I don't think it's for me.

I did not realise this was not the whole book when I requested it unfortunately. What I did read had be intrigued and I definitely plan on picking up the full length novel however.

This extract has me so excited to read the rest of the book. I absolutely LOVED everything I have read so far. I feel like I really know this world already.

I love fantasy books with dragons in, so I'm definitely excited to see what happens with the dragons.

So far, I can find nothing to fault, and all I want to do now is keep reading!

The Priory of the Orange Tree was a highly anticipated book for the book community. I did enjoy this excerpt and purchased the book on my own. I am looking forward to continuing this high fantasy series in the near future.

Welp, I finished this beast of a book!
I have so many emotions right now I can't even.
I gotta admit, I was intimidated by the size of it when I first saw it so I was reluctant to read it, but once I hit the 10% I found myself flying through it.
The story was so interesting, the magic system really well crafted and it kept me wanting to know more.
The characters of this book were probably the best thing about it.
They were so well written, each of them having their depths. I loved how each one of them had their own qualities and flaws and how they own up to them. It was really refreshing.
The friendships between the characters were sooooo good, very relatable, I could picture myself and my own friends as I read about them.

Although this is and adult book(what with the characters being over 20), it read more like a YA. I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing though.

The one thing I didn't like however, was the ending.
It was too Fairy-Tail-ish for my liking.

One more thing I wasn't a big fan of was how information was more often than not just handed to the characters, I didn't feel they put much effort in order to know stuff.

Despite everything though, this was a really good read and I'm so glad I went through it.
The world needs more standalone fantasy books such as this one!!

It was only an extract but it really gripped my attention! I wish I could manage hardbacks so I didn't have to wait for the full version in paperback but I cannot wait to read the whole thing.

I loved this book, I really did. But the ending was unsatisfactory and left me wanting something different.
But overall, I liked the characters, loved the dragons, and Queendoms are amazing.

There is not much action in this book. It is very plot driven. So keep that in mind if you're going to pick this up because it is long. I don't feel like it ever dragged though.

Definitely recommend and I hope we see more out of this world eventually.

The excerpt was more than enough to showcase the epic journey this book will take you on. The world building was excellent; scene descriptions painting vivid pictures. The feminine POVs in this type of setting and plot are refreshing and exciting. This is a must have!
