I enjoyed this book and devoured it within a couple of days. No spoilers, but the premise included a twist I hadn't read in other WWII historical novels. I wish the author had handled the foreshadowing a bit more deftly; lots of plot complications remained unresolved at the end of the novel. However, I happily used my imagination to fill in the blanks.

A child left alone after a bombing of her home. The story takes us through her rescue by a loving woman and then the lies covering a dark secret of her parents. A warm story of the kindness of people in tragic times and how some lived to find peace and happiness after the dark years.

This is what historical fiction is all about! We see a bit of current day and then it goes back to the 1940's. During, before and after the Blitz. I love the character of Grace. Such a sweet little child who goes through so much heartbreak. Elenor is a character that I love reading about, strong and willful!
Nothing but praise for Glynis Peters! I am hoping that she either continues this story or gives us more of her imagination and style in another great novel.
Thank you NetGalley and HarperImpulse for this ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was absolutely AMAZING! I didnt want the story to end! It was well written and the characters were well developed that I actually thought I was part of it all. I completed The Secret Orphan within a few hours. I HIGHLY recommend this book and would like to thank netgalley for letting me give an honest review of this book.

I did NOT want the story to end. I was so invested in this story. I was so caught up until the last paragraph. I even exclaimed NO! I want more. I want to know more when they moved.
This is truly one of the best historical novels I've read. I actually felt like I was there. I was rooting for the young heroine. I love how she grew up quickly. I love how she took on the orpan and made her own. I love how she fought for her.
The story starts right before the WWII and into the WWII. The author drew me into her web and keep me there until the end. It was hard for me to put the book down before going to work. I came back home straight to the book to continue reading the magical tale.
I just did NOT want this wonderful story to end!
