Don't Turn Around by Amanda Brooke is a story about tragedy and justice. There are some trigger warnings: suicide and domestic abuse that some readers may find difficult to read.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

Quite simply a fantastic book; a page turning, gripping but emotional story told from the view of two people. Great storyline and characters that you can't help but feel for they are so realistic. A must read!

When teenager Meg committed suicide ten years ago, having found herself trapped in an abusive relationship, her mum Ruth set up a helpline for women in a similar situation as Meg.

Meg’s cousin Jen, finds out the person who drove Meg to suicide is back in the area, she confronts him. Could it be that he is doing the same to other women that he did to Meg? The calls coming into the domestic abuse hotline become quite frightening and they are from a girl who knows things about Meg – details that only the dead girl or the man who hurt her could have known…

As Jen and Ruth start to uncover the past, someone is determined to stop them and as the story is told between them, we go through a whole host of plot twists and if I’m honest, the ending is not one I was expecting!

Meg killed herself ten years ago to escape an abusive relationship. Her cousin, Jen, runs a domestic abuse helpline and a caller seems to know about Meg and her ex.

This was quite a slow burn then the pace whips up and I found myself racing through the pages. Brilliant read.

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Pretty good storyline and it just about held my interest though not at a heart racing speed. There seemed to be a lot padding and attempts to throw us off the real scent which sometimes made for a slow read. It picked up towards the end but I reckon most people will guess the ‘twist’. I have read books by the same author and as others have said, she can be rather repetitive and long winded, hopefully she’ll take some of the feedback on board for future novels. My thanks to Harper Collins and NetGalley for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book as I have al her previous books, it has exactly what you need from a book; great storyline and characters, thrills and secrets along with great twists.

I was on the edge of my seat throughout and devoured it in one sitting!

Around 10 years ago a 17yr old girl called Megan killed herself and she was in an abusive relationship at the one. Her cousin has set up a helpline to aid other people in the same situation as her cousin Megan. They start getting phone calls about Megan’s ex boyfriend Lewis, and Jen decides to investigate and try and firm out what really happened back then!

Great book a terrific read

I was really pleased when I got an email to say I was pre-approved to read this from NetGalley as I’ve enjoyed previous books by the author. I have to say that I think this book is her best yet, I found it hard to put down. The story is about a family’s bid to prove what they believed really happened to their daughter Meg. Meg died by suicide ten years previously but her family always believed her boyfriend had more to do with her death than was ever found. Meg’s parents and her cousin Jen set up a charity helpline to try to help other people who felt like Meg, and one night get a call from a young woman who they think might be the new girlfriend of Meg’s boyfriend. This leads to a tangled web as Jen becomes increasingly involved in trying to solve the mystery. The first two thirds of this novel were so tense and it was a hard book to put down. I did feel the end fell a little flat to me because I’d worked out what had happened to Meg earlier on in the book and was really hoping to be proved wrong. That said I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this book because it had me gripped from start to finish!

This was an interesting read which touches on some sensitive subjects - abuse and suicide among them. Maybe not her best, but I still enjoyed reading it. and I have no hesitation in recommending it,

She died.

You’re next.

Now he’s coming for you.

Ten years ago, Jen’s cousin Meg killed herself after failing to escape an abusive relationship.
Now, Meg’s ex is back and Jen’s domestic abuse helpline has started getting frightening calls from a girl who knows things about Meg – details that only the dead girl or the man who hurt her could have known…

As Jen starts to uncover the past, someone is determined to stop her. Can she save this young woman from Meg’s fate? Or is history about to repeat itself?

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced copy of this book.

The book’s description drew me in and touches on the difficult topics of suicide and abuse but unfortunately, after reading the book, I was left very disappointed.

I found the pace of the book excruciatingly slow and, at times, I could have easily skipped some of the chapters just to move on as I felt it was repetitive but didn't just in case I happened to miss a crucial part of the story. Thankfully, around ¾ of the way through the pace started to quicken and I began to enjoy the story more as there were a few twists and turns that started to emerge – just a shame it had to take so long and I guessed what was going to happen at the end.

The story is told through Ruth (Meg’s mum) and Jen (Meg’s cousin) which is good in principle but unfortunately I struggled throughout trying to remember whose turn it was telling the story as the writing was always set at the same tone.

A really great idea for a story but it was a shame about the way it was written. I'd give it 3.5 stars.

An absolutely fantastic book! Lots of twists and turns throughout - also lots of sensitive subjects so quite harrowing at times. Very well written from different points of view, will keep you guessing until the end.

I really enjoyed this book which had me enthralled from the start. I’m not going to do a plot analysis but just want to say how well plotted and intricate this story is. A great read which had me reading late into the night

Jen has still not got over the suicide of her cousin, Meg.

Working for the helpline Meg’s parents set up in her memory, she is stuck in time grieving for her cousin and best friend.

When the man that the family blame for the death returns to Liverpool, Jen begins to play a dangerous game. Meg died… is she next?

There is not a lot I can say without spoiling it but I will do my best.

From the first page, I was properly into this novel. It is full of mystery and suspense and the tension builds so well throughout the book.

I believe it tackles a difficult subject with a lot of sensitivity and did a good job at showing many aspects to it.

As soon as my opinions and allegiances built for one character, it would quickly get altered. I love it when a novel can do this and it keeps me wanting to turn the page.

Told from the point of view of Jen and Meg’s mother, Ruth, it allows the reader to really get into the heads of these characters as they want to bring justice to the girl they lost. It was interesting to see how the same event affected Jen and Ruth and how they both knew a slightly different Meg whilst maybe not knowing her well at all.

I knew that things were not going to be as they seem. With all the twists and turns (of which there are a few,) I didn’t see the end coming.

Don’t Turn Around is a compelling novel full of suspense, tension and surprises; everything I love in this genre of book. It is SO GOOD!
