This book was thrilling from start to finish. The characters were real and loveable. Their happiness became your happiness and their tragedies became yours. A book that tugs at the heart strings and can’t put down.

I LOVED A Woman of Substance, but haven't really gotten into any of Barbara Taylor Bradford's other books outside that series.

I liked this, but it wasn't my favourite. It was an enjoyable holiday type read, easy to read and inoffensive, but not her best.

Another great read from Barbara Taylor Bradford I'm not always drawn towards historical novels but this one had a good mix of characters and storylines which were interesting and likable from lower class to upper class the interaction between them all made for a very likable novel thought the ending was a bit abrupt so hopefully there will be a sequel to follow

BTB is truly a master of her craft.
Set in Victorian England this book follows James Falconer from child to man. James is the son of a market trader and whilst his family are not the poorest they are certainly not wealthy. However they are rich in love, family values and ambition.
We follow James as he starts his career, climbing the ladder to success. And his path takes him to many places, he meets many peo0e and his world grows and grows.
Meanwhile Henry Malvern is a wealthy businessman and his daughter Alexis is the apple of his eye. Alexis is focused in business too although she also has a strong streak of philanthropy. She swears she will never get married. But she meets and falls in love with a handsome older man. But fate has other ideas for Alexis.
This story is rich with detail, sights, sounds, scents all evocative and transporting.. BTB has done it again!

I am a big fan of historical fiction and I really enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and the descriptions of their surroundings. I could visualise everything and got totally caught up in what was happening. I really liked how fiction was woven in with fact.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

This was my first Barbara Taylor Bradford book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was really impressed by how well she evoked Victorian England — the period details are just stunning. I very much look forward to reading the rest of the books in this saga as they come out. Thanks Netgalley and HarperCollins for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I love historical fiction and this was my first from Bradford. I really liked the story, the setting, the descriptions of the time, clothes, etc.
It was very atmospheric and beautiful. I enjoyed reading about these characters too.
I found the writing a bit inconsistent, but overall the book was an enchanting historical fiction, and I'd read again from her.

Thanks a lot tp NetGalley and the publisher for granting a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
