4.5* What an intro to this author! I wish I'd read the previous tales, too.

This was my very first read from this author whose name I've seen around for years. I'm not sure what made me take a chance on her, tbh, but it was a great decision. I realised after that there have been several previous books in this series, but it's not necessary to have read those, as this stands alone.

I won't rehash the storyline, but I will say that I went, 'I did not see that coming.' more than once, and that the surprises kept happening. It kept my attention like MF tales don't really tend to these days, and I enjoyed the ride.

There were a couple of bits that were pretty good red herrings, and a couple of bits where I did eye-roll (mainly the scenes involving Lincoln and Olivia; I didn't really warm to the guy, so maybe I do need to go back and read the previous tales), because of the implausibility of things, and because of the fact that I could pretty much predict how things would pan out.

As for Morgan and Lance? What a great partnership and what a sweetie he was to little Sophie. I will be looking out for more in this series, as there's about to be some cementing of a HEA, it seems, and I think this partnership will continue.

ARC courtesy of Montlake Romance and NetGalley, for my reading pleasure.

Secrets never die is a roller coaster of action. After witnessing the murder of his stepfather Evan flees the scene believing the shooter is a cop, and upon discovering his body and with nowhere to turn his mother Tina enlists the help of Morgan and Lance to try and find her son and prove his innocence. The hunt intensifies when the body of teenager turns up badly beaten and tortured and the plight of Evan becomes a race against time to save him before the same fate befalls him. With the help of family and co-workers both Morgan and Lance delve deeper into the life of Tina and her husband.
Full of likable characters, a believable storyline this book is a hit. Thank you Montlake, Melinda Leigh, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.

It's getting hard to write a review for Melinda Leigh's book because I have nothing but great things to say about all her books so it makes it very hard to not repeat myself. Lance and Morgan are back again in the very suspenseful mystery about Evan who's missing after seeing his step father murdered...or did he murder his step father and is now on the run?? This was a very quick read once you start you had to finish! I enjoy every single book by Melinda Leigh not just because of the captivating stories but also her writing just brings you into the story like your part of the mystery. You have to read every book in the Morgan Dane series I promise you will LOVE this series. Another great book Melinda Leigh keep on writing!

Excellent opening to this story! It is intense and gets your heart racing. I loved all the scenes with Evan, especially when Evan and Lance are trying to cross the river to safety at one point, it is so realistic. So many good situations of suspense and peril. I felt like I was right there in the thick of the action. Great read. I would give it 5 stars, but Lance and Morgan's love story is to sugary sweet for me :-)

I am such a huge fan of Melinda Leigh's writing! She has a way of crafting her characters that makes them believable as people, not just characters in a book. The Morgan Dane series is a gripping romantic suspense , and I eagerly await each installment. What I like best is that the plot line is something I can actually believe in. No super spies and government plots happen in Scarlett Falls. Just things you could see happen in your own town.

When a retired deputy is killed and his troubled step-son goes missing, all that will save him is a mother's love. When PI Lance Kruger is contacted by the boy's mother, he and his fiance Morgan Dane are willing to do their best to clear the Evan and bring him home, but the evidence that he is guilty seems to be mounting. When another deputy, one who had close ties to the deceased, disappears too, the mystery deepens. It is a race to find out who the real killer is, before a teenager loses his life.

Time has moved on a few months since the previous outing of Melinda Leigh's brilliant defence attorney Morgan Dane and her fiance PI Lance Kruger when they are contacted by the mother of one of the boys on Lance's ice hockey team. With her retired sheriff husband murdered in their home and her son missing Tina is desperate for information and begs Morgan and Lance to find Evan and discover who killed her husband.

As always the action is fast paced and revolves not just around the main characters but involves family life and mention of characters from some of Ms Leigh's other successful series. As has been the case with the previous four books featuring Morgan and Lance the story is tightly written and although the outcome is never really in doubt it is always satisfying with at least one or two little twists to keep you on your toes.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this novel thanks to Netgalley in exchange for an unbiased review and recommend it for anyone who has read the previous four novels or enjoys well written, not too gory crime fiction. Melinda Leigh is one of my favourite author's and this book didn't disappoint in any way.

This was my first book by Melinda Leigh, but not my last. I enjoyed it immensely. The relationship between Morgan and lance, did not overshadow the story line at all. While looking for the missing boy that lance mentors takes some wild turns. Secrets come to light and explanations are given. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I found out I didn’t. I love that this story was able to keep me on my toes. This is definitely a book I will be recommending.

I was given this book from NetGalley for an honest review -
I really enjoyed this book - It was a fast read with a lot of action that kept you turning the pages -
Evan comes home from visiting his dad to find his stepdad laying on the floor shot with a man holding a gun, Evan is shot in the arm and runs scared.
Who is the killer and why do they think Evan did it?
So many secrets - and the scary chase to find Evan before the killer does.
You will want to read this book!

This one was slower for me than others in the series but still enjoyable. And while it felt slow to start, it did pick up the pace and resolve nicely. I am excited for more installments because I really like these characters and want to see what happens with the opening left at the end (not a cliffhanger)

Throw in a police procedural-type story and I know Melinda Leigh can make it shine. Leigh’s Morgan Dane juggernaut—into its fifth book here—keeps rolling on and shows no sign of abating and for good reasons.

Morgan and Lance tackle a case that has gotten law enforcement into a tizzy: the murder of a retired deputy sheriff, his missing stepson and the current inclination of the authorities to blame it on the latter. The setup is admittedly formulaic (and a little anti-climatic as well) but nonetheless absorbing, easy to follow, with protagonists you know you can put your last penny behind.

I loved catching up with Morgan and Lance, whose relationship grows from strength to strength. Past the sexual tension, the getting-together, Morgan/Lance’s solid partnership is never in question. The return of the odd, power couple as a crime-solving duo is always welcome of course, yet I find that I miss the heat between them—something that Leigh now glances over—even though I liked the progression of their relationship. Essentially, much of ‘Secrets Never Die’ deals with the investigation process and the superhuman strength that both Morgan/Lance seem to possess in the few days within which the story takes place, with only a very, very faint whiff of romance even with the introduction of a potential secondary pairing of Sharp and Olivia.

In any case, Leigh’s solid writing gave me a good ol’ crime mystery to solve and if you aren’t bothered by the seeming lack of romance) ‘Secrets Never Die’ is a pretty good all rounder.

Five book into the series and Morgan Dane and Lance Kruger have become the “it” couple of solving mysteries and crimes.. But in an interesting twist Lincoln Sharp and reporter Olivia Cruz seem to be vying for that spot themselves.

The crime is a retired sheriff’s deputy is shot dead in his home. The person of interest is his stepson. His mother is the one that calls in Lance and Morgan for help knowing her son is innocent but as the story moves along is it clear to see the secrets of the past that never died are coming for payback.

Being this far into the series I love how Morgan and Lance's relationship has progressed. The easy camaraderie between them and full trust of the other. Their tenacity when they get a case and fighting for the victims makes for a great story.

This is a good book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I love the characters! But there were so many issues and errors in the version I was given it was difficult to read and irritating. I hope they are fixed before publication.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When a retired sheriff’s deputy is shot to death in his home, his troubled teenage stepson, Evan, becomes the prime suspect. Even more incriminating, the boy disappeared from the scene of the crime.

Desperate to find her son, Evan’s mother begs PI Lance Kruger for help. She knows her son is innocent. Just as the trail goes cold, another deputy vanishes. His shocking connection to Evan’s stepfather throws the investigation into chaos as Lance and Morgan fear the worst…that Evan is the killer’s new target. With so many secrets to unravel, will Lance and Morgan find him before it’s too late?

Well Melinda Leigh has done it again! If you're looking for a series to read, this is it! Even if you don't want to start a series, go ahead and read this one anyway. It can be read as a stand-alone book as well without feeling lost while reading. Tons of thrilling suspense and constantly wondering who is innocent and who's not.

Secrets Never Die

I’m a big fan of Melinda Leigh and have read many of her other books. Secrets Never Die is number five in the Morgan Dane series but can be read as a standalone.

Secrets Never Die contains murder, suspense and such a vivid storyline that you feel like you’re there, living this nightmare. I was engrossed from the beginning and didn’t want to put it down. A definite 5 star read!

Another great addition to the Morgan Dane series. Melinda Leigh is always solid in her writing and plot development. Her characters are strong and dynamic enough to carry through this long-standing series. While this book, itself, is the fifth installment of the Morgan Dane collection, it can be read as a stand-alone. Leigh always does a fantastic job at bridging the gap between each book with enough contextual information to allow the reader the freedom to pick up with the series at any given point. This was a good read with just a slight amount of violence portrayed in the writing. Overall decent read. 4 stars.

I don’t think Melinda Leigh can write a bad book...it’s just not possible. Once again Morgan Dane took me through twists, turns, and suspense and all the while I am trying to figure out the bad guy and it was a person I never gave a second thought too. Darn you Ms. Leigh you got me again!!!!

I was pleased with storyline, the progression of Morgan and Lance’s romance and can’t wait to see what progresses with Olivia and Sharp. This book kept me on my toes and kept throwing me off the trail of the villain. But that is what I like about these books, the villain is there it makes sense when it all comes to light and the light bulb goes off and you just think to yourself...why didn’t I think of that?

If you like suspense pick up this series you won’t be disappointed. Try any of her series’s just start reading her!!!! Now comes the bad part....the waiting until the next book. Happy reading!!
