Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!

A good intriguing storyline but did get me confused in places. Would have been great if slightly shorter as the characters might have clicked for me quicker. Worth the read

This is one of those books where husbands get ignored and have to fend for themselves.... This was a thrilling read and I couldn't wait to finish it. Recommended.

A thrilling read which kept me turning the pages, characters you care for and just brilliantly written. Great novel!!

Interesting premise. Fast paced. 3 stars. Enjoyed it but wasn't 100% into it as I felt it did feel quite slow in some sections.

Thankyou to NetGalley, Sapere Books and the author, John Mathews, for the opportunity to read a digital copy of The Last Witness in exchange for an honest, unbiased opinion.

I thought the storyline was well thought out and written. The characters were well described. I really enjoyed the twists and turns that kept me glued to my chair until I turned the last page. 3.5 stars

Well worth a read

2.5
Positives:
Interesting setting!
Very interesting storyline!

But, the accolades stop there.
The two strands take way to long to come together, during which time, this reader lost interest. Pacing is very slow due to way too many details...TMII. The plot is complicated, which would be great if it moved along.! Too many characters that are not of interest. The book should have been half its length, as should each chapter! The author has a great premise and plot, however.

I received this book from net gallery in return for an honest review.

The story of families and long lost regrets.

I’m not sure how to review this book. I didn’t dislike the story but it was long, and slow and complicated. I’m not one to give up on a book but I almost did several times. It just didn’t connect until so long into the book. It had pages and pages where quite frankly I got bored and disinterested. The story about Lorena kept my interest but the rest of it I couldn’t really care about. It was just too much info for one book for me. And the names of people were just weird. It got on my nerves just reading the names. I couldn’t tell you what happened at the start or why because I just didn’t care. I just wanted to finish it and move on. I’m sure that some people would enjoy it but it wasn’t for me. I don’t think I’d read more by this author from reading this book but I also feel that there’s a good story teller in there which is a shame. Perhaps a shorter book and the chapters were way too long!

The Last Witness is a mystery with a host of characters. The story is intriguing and keeps your interest. It's slow at times. More characters than I like in a story. It's a good read overall. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Fast paced and atmospheric. Kept me guessing until the very end. Enjoyed the characters and the story was gripping.

It took me a while to get into this book as it felt quite slow at first and there was a fairly large cast of characters with far from straight forward back stories.

I enjoyed reading this book. It had a good story to it. I liked the variety of characters in it. It is my second book read by this author. I hope to read more books by this author.
