I approached this book with some trepidation. I thought I was pretty familiar with the backstory of the major assassinations. However, I was pleasantly surprised. While the subjects covered were familiar -- JFK, Bobby Kennedy, MLK, etc, the book provided much additional information. I highly recommend it for all readers interested in this topic.

Firstly appolgies I thought I'd reviewed this book.
This is a really interesting book full of interesting facts about very famous assassinations I read it straight through but you can dip in if you don't have a lot of time and out reading about JFK and then Lincoln if you want the writing is easy to understand and flows really well it makes a good starting point if you then want to know more about someone in particular the book will give you a good grounding
A throughly enjoyable book I would recommend this book to anyone who likes history or has an interest in broadening their knowledge on famous assassinations and their assassins
I was lucky enough to be given an advance copy in return for an honest review thank you

Thanks to Net galley for providing me a with a copy of Famous Assassinations by the author Sarah Herman.

The author provides information of some of the assassinations of most notable figures in history. Some we know and most we don't.

The author Sarah Herman has categorised killings of notoriety from earliest written records to the present, she also given backstory for the assassinations.

The common and mostly known by us are the killing Emperors/kings to make room for others to the throne, murdering religious leaders for political mileage. But in this book we will find many unknown instances which has the same base.

The book is pretty neat in providing overview and this will help people who needed further study can use this as a spring board.

Taking this account of a variety of famous assassinations as what it is, it is a decent popular history book giving an overview of the topic. Do not expect in-depth analysis of the issues raised, and you'll be just fine. The book sorts the various cases it discusses into categories, however, these seem to have quite a bit of overlap and it is not always clear why a case is included in this chapter or that, and not the other. While Sarah Herman does seem to fall back onto a variety of sources, it does seem clear that she is not a trained academic historian, lacking some of the critical analysis one would expect.

Book about famous assassinations during various times in history. Good subject matter regarding the various ways the assassinations were carried out. I hope the author will write a 2nd book. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book. Although I received the book in this manner, it did not effect my opinion of this book nor my review.

There have been a great number of assassinations in human history, and Sarah Herman describes a good deal of them. She separated them by time period and job type (royalty, president, dictator, etc.), taking us from the Roman Empire to Bin Laden.

Each main assassination is broken down into victim, assassination, assassin, and aftermath (or some amalgamation of the sort), making it a relatively quick read, as well as being very organised.

Herman writes very academically, while still being easily read by the public, which is a rare skill. I highly recommend this to anyone at all curious about the history of assassinations.

Is it an assassination or a murder? What makes it an assassination? The author explains the difference and goes on to give information on the most famous assassinations in history. Starting with Julius Caesar thru out the time since they were first reported. This book is well researched and interesting. Well worth a read or two. I enjoyed it very much. I received this book from Net Galley and Sapere Books for a honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.

Received from NetGalley in exchanged for a review

I found the topic very interesting, but the format of the book threw me off. Firstly, the introduction is very confusing. The author mixes definition with opinion and there is no differentiation such as italic wording etc. Additionally, I felt like information was repeated the whole time.

Secondly, the case studies in itself were formated interesting, but it does lack a information. For example, I found the chapter on Caesar lacking information on the man himself.

Lastly, it's not a quick read in my opinion. When the author starts mentioning names of everyone involved, it gets muddled and you do find yourself having to re-read chapters.

Keep this as a Sunday afternoon read

Famous Assassinations

Ms. Herman’s book is about various assassinations through time and their supposed motives, and assassins. It discusses how some have political motives and other are more financial or religious. Some are hard to determine at all, some are done for attention or status. This book briefly covers many well-known assassinations, such as Kennedy, Mahatma Gandhi, Franz Ferdinand, Michael Collins, and many others. Below I show how it’s broken down into sections. It looks into motives, etc. but you are left to decide for yourself. It’s a good read for those who like true crime, and history. My thanks for the electronic copy that was provided by NetGalley, author Sarah Herman, and the publisher for my fair review.

Chapter Two: For God and King

Chapter Three: Rights, Riots and Revolutionaries
