The Girl Before You is interesting enough with enough twists to keep you wanting to know what happened next... I wouldn't recommend it to a friend but it was ok read.

I struggled at the beginning of this book as there were lots of alternating POVs and timelines that felt confused and a little bit underdeveloped.

But I preserved and actually enjoyed the story till the end.
It deals with a woman on a train trip who is sure she had seen a colleague of hers who was presumed missing and dead since college. What follows is the main character's investigation into what really happened to this missing girl all those years ago, and why her husband seems to be entangled into this case?

There are nice twists and a web of lies and deceit to untangle, the plot also deals with the unpleasant themes of rape and murder but in a sensitive way.

Thanks Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

A great read from start to finish. Lots of twists and turns and unexpected outcomes. Strong characters and a great setting. A fab story

First, I will say I found this book tedious to read and very drawn out. If you read the blurb, you know Alice who is married to George Bell went to the same school as this girl named Ruth who apparently died 15 years ago but her body was never found. When Alice gets pregnant, she begins to obsess about Ruth who had this gorgeous red hair and was at one time a girlfriend of her husband George. She thinks she sees her on a train one day. This book goes back and forth with a few POV’s like from her sister and her good friend Kat. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but the end of the book has a major twist so it did redeem itself in the end about what appended to Ruth. Also, the are some other storylines going on besides finding out what happened to Ruth such as Alice’s marriage to George which is a major component in this book. I want to thank net galley for this ARC I received for an honest review. (less)

I really struggled with this book. Disjointed and did not flow well. This is the second time I have read this book and unfortunately it does not get any better. I am sure other readers of this genre will enjoy it more. Sorry not for me.
I would like to thank the author, Avon Books UK and Netgalley for the ARC in return for giving an honest review

Alice is a successful lawyer, while travelling back from Scotland on a train she's sure that she sees a woman who had been at university with her - who's missing presumed dead from that time too. How can it be? So begins Alice's introduction to the web of lies and deceit from university days woven by, and around her husband. Can she unravel them before her child is born?

I enjoyed this book.

An interesting story telling the tale of Ruth’s disappearance from the university town of St Andrews.
Set over two time periods and with several lead female characters I found it ever so slightly disjointed. Not with the different characters but with the jumping between time and events within the the same period, as well as the jumping between time periods . I felt it didn’t quite flow as well as it could have.
I’m not sure whether this is down to the fact that I was reading an advanced readers copy or if this is just the author’s style.
I am keen to read more from her to see

I struggled to get into this book, finding the changing characters and different timelines confusing at the beginning. While it was an interesting read, and I thought that Ruth was a compelling central character, for me the book suffered from too many points of view and not enough focus. Particularly, I struggled to connect to Kat and wouldngave preferred more time developing Ruth and her relationships. Joined the closure of George's storyline but overall found the ending to be abrupt.

I really enjoyed this book. It took me a few chapters to into it because I kept getting lost in all the characters but I soon became so involved in the story that I couldn't wait to finish it to see how it ends. It takes on a ride from a disappearance of a girl, rape and a killing. It has you guessing the whole time as to who done it. I was completely shocked by the ending and still left with questions which isn't a bad thing.

I've been struggling to get gripped to this book, I have gone back a few times and it hasn't seemed to peak my interest in this occasion. I will try to finish it at some point so I can give a accurate netgalley review. But at this time I am still unable to give accurate honest feedback. Thank you for the chance to read this book but on this occasion I haven't managed to finish it as of yet.

I understand this book has also probably been released by now so it's an unhelpful review.
Again thank you to the publisher and author for the advanced copy.

I'm not sure if I was too distracted while reading this one, but it sort of fell short. I had trouble keeping my timelines straight and staying 100% invested. However, the mystery of Ruth was developed enough that I HAD to know how it ended. I'll go somewhere between 3.5 stars and 4 stars. I liked it, but didn't love it.

Thank you Avon Books and Netgalley for a chance to review The Girl Before You by Nicola Rayner. Available May 27/19.

The Girl Before You is a coming of age story mainly set in University. Coming up on the tenth anniversary of a girl’s mysterious disappearance, memories surface of that night and things may not have happened like first expected.

I found the different characters and storylines and timelines confusing to follow and it really distracted me from the story. I was often confused about who people were and their relationships with each other. I did really like the plot but by the time we got to getting answers, I was underwhelmed.
A good story but might have been too busy for me to really connect with it enough to enjoy the slow burn nature of the plot line.

Hmmm this book is interesting enough with enough twists to keep you wanting to know what happened. It is told by 3 or 4 different POV's. A girl Ruth goes missing while in college and years later her mystery is finally solved sorta. It starts out with Alice who begins to obsess over her husbands exes from college once she finds out that one of the exes was Ruth. Her obsession leads to Ruth's sister Naomi and together they dig to find the truth. Thank you to Netgalley and Avon Books for the oppurtunity to read this book for my honest review.

This was a twisty thriller that had me gripped - what happened to Ruth?! The story is woven from the perspective of different characters and is pieced together from past and present events. As the story unfolds hidden secrets start to emerge, linking the characters to each other and to Ruth's disappearance. This was cleverly done, and when the truth is finally revealed I was shocked! However for me the ending was left a little too open, I would have liked a bit more of an ending for Alice.
Overall a very good read. Thankyou to Netgalley and Avon books UK for my ARC in exchange for my honest review

The Girl on the Train is one of my favourite thrillers of all time, and I can understand the comparison to The Girl Before You, which was so compelling, and made me so desperate to find out how it ended, that I read it in a sitting. Beautifully written, great foreshadowing, well-characterised, the dialogue was convincing and I felt there was a wonderful honesty behind it all - I was utterly convinced by the motivation behind each character's thoughts and actions - a sign of a great writer. I really did love this book - my only little niggle was that the ending. I can understand the author's intent, but, for me, I really would have liked to have found out more! But perhaps the way it ended is the reason it's stayed in my mind...
Just a side note: I am unsure how this novel fits in to a genre - a mystery, perhaps, as there's not the sort of climax you would expect from a typical thriller. Or maybe that's just me!
Overall, a fabulous book! Despite my personal feelings about it ending, it deserves 5 stars because it is genuinely brilliant and worth a read.

3 stars from me

I can't put my finger on why but I struggled to get into this book, I couldn't engage with the characters and found the whole uni sexuality thing over egged and drawn out.

George just came across as a bit of an arrogant arse and I struggled to see who anyone could become so infatuated with him, let alone all these obviously beautiful and intelligent women.

I can see the book has a lot of great reviews and I guess I just missed something with this one but it's not for me.

Nicola Rayner did an amazing job with this novel! Wow, I cannot say enough good things about this book. Definitely a page turner so I highly recommend going out and buying it right away! Go, go, go!

When Alice first saw George Bell at St. Anthony's University, she knew she had to have him. Alice seemingly ignores George's reputation as a ladies' man and successfully pursues him. Now, Alice seems to have it all -- George, his wealth, a beautiful house, and a new baby on the way. But a chance encounter on a train may unravel Alice's tidy, perfect life.

Alice sees a woman who looks like George's ex-girlfriend, Ruth, but that's impossible because Ruth went missing while they were students at St. Anthony's. Or is it?

Told from multiple perspectives, The Girl Before You tells the story of George and Ruth -- through the eyes of Alice, Ruth's sister, and Ruth's best friend. Nicola Rayner seamlessly moves from narrators and time periods, to show what happened to Ruth and how it has impacted Alice's life. A great read!

Haunted by her husbands past, Alice starts obsessing with her husbands ex who disappeared while they were in University. Convinced she saw this woman, Alice can't shake the feeling that her husband is keeping a dark secret from her.

I am so torn about this book.
I found the beginning of book to be quite choppy, but somewhere along the way the story gripped me and I was hooked.

By the end, I thought the story dropped off a bit and despite the fact that I did not see the twist/climax coming, I thought the ending fell short.

From the beginning I was hooked!! Ruth has gone missing and told from multiple points of view we hear from people in her life and past reflect and deal with their emotions. This book had me up all night reading. This was a unique story and the author keeps you hooked until the final revelations about EVERYTHING!!
