Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

This is an excellent overview of the whole Brexit issue. Dunt is clear without being simplistic and good on both the technicalities of trade and the realities of politics.

Short, informative, entertaining and thoroughly terrifying in equal measure. I wish I’d read this book two years ago as it covers all the basics that I hadn’t quite picked up on, despite being fairly well read on the current political situation, and would have supported me in a number of Ill-judged arguments.

Ian Dunt has a clear and simple way of explaining complex issues without talking down to the reader. I’d also recommend the Remainiacs podcast where he similarly distils complex trade arguments. And swears. A lot. This book is surprisingly non sweary...

The main flaw is that this is two years old and we know how much has happened since- or not happened. It is remarkably prescient about where we may find ourselves quickly though...

This is an excellent overview of the whole Brexit issue, which has held up very well considering the chaotic events and lack of progress that have followed its publication last year. More even-minded than you might expect given the key part he plays in the Remainiacs podcast, Dunt is clear without being simplistic and good on both the technicalities of trade and the realities of politics. Well worth your time.

Definitely one of the better books out there which examines the impact Brexit will have on the United Kingdom. First published in 2017, a lot of Dunt’s predictions may have seemed like hysterical scaremongering at the time, but as the talks have gone on since, some of it made for an overly optimistic read.

Dunt’s writing is accessible and manages to keep from editorialising for the most part. Would recommend to someone who doesn’t really follow politics but wants a better understanding of the bearing Brexit will have.

With kind thanks to Netgalley and the publisher.
