I have fell in love with this book. What a well researched book on Malachi Records. I grew up listening to these records. This book brought back many memories. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the arc of this book in return for my review. Receiving the book in this manner had no bearing on this review.

The Gospel According to Malaco from Robert Marovich is a wonderful package of both a beautiful book and 8 CDs with the music discussed in the book. The review copy I received was just the book, so I will be focusing on that although I did make an effort to listen to as many of the songs as I could on my own.

I won't go into a lot of detail, I think for any lover of gospel music this book and set of CDs speaks for itself. I think the best way to describe what you're getting is quite simple. You're getting a remarkable collection of some of the best and most important gospel recordings in history along with in-depth liner notes and a history of gospel recording all packaged as something that will make a stunning coffee table book.

Gospel is not my go-to genre so this is a wealth of both information and great music. My primary interest is the fact that gospel has had such an influence and impact on others styles of music and this collection really brought to the front just how big the influence has been.

Definitely recommend for both gospel music fans as well as fans who want to appreciate what influenced the music they might now listen to.

Reviewed from a copy made available by the publisher via NetGalley.

As a person who enjoys and sings gospel music, I was delighted by this book. I had no idea about the early history of this music genre. This book provides an excellent education on gospel music and its artists from their early days to the present time. In this journey through history, the reader has not only a written history but also CDs which provide some of the greatest examples of gospel music sung by the artists who popularized them.

This book is appropriate for anyone who wants to know more about the history of gospel music. It also makes an excellent gift for anyone who loves gospel music.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that was provided by the publisher through Net Galley. However, the thoughts and opinions presented here are my own.
