The last MJ book I read I think I ended up either not finishing of feeling dissapointed woith which is highly unusual. However, when scrolling through my endless to read list I noticed this one and decided my last attempt must have been a one off, and I am thrilled that I was right.

Sophie Mayhew is our main lady and she is married to John who is a rising political star. It's totally clear from the first few chapters that John Mayhew and the whole family (inclduing Sophie's) are just vile people that only care about John's rise to fame. Sophie on the other hand is a woman that you can just adore, and it's very clear that she is the backbone of what John has built. When sordid secrets hit the press of course the spin doctors working for John plan what they all need to say and Sophie is due to stand alongside her husband as his pillar of support. Sadly for all of them they had just no idea of what was going to happen, and it seemed neither did Sophie.

As she stood on the steps with all the cameras facing her she did the complete opposite of what was expected of her and subsequently flees from John and the rest of the family. She ends up in a small village near the sea close to the School she once loathed as a child. This story is pure warmth from your head to the very tip of your toes. Sophie is a wonderful character, as are the people she meets when she moves away and is in hiding. This whole story was an absolute joy to read and everything about it made me want to make sure I had no other hidden gems from this author lurking in my unread pile.

Ah I love Milly's style of writing. There is a lot of humour, romance and straight talking. I have enjoyed all of her books and none of them feel cliched. This one was really good and I finished it very quickly.

Thank you for the advance copy.

One of the best and most uplifting books around. Well worth the read. This story is full of twists and turns, love and betrayal and lots of the unexpected. A very binge able book but also a "come back and read again" book.

Fabulous book! I read it mostly in one sitting I just couldn't put it down! I loved the characters, loved the story arch for Sophie and it was just a bit of a hug in a book :)

I’ve been a huge fan of Milly Johnson for a number of years now and I really thought she was top of her game. So imagine my delight when I devoured this book and found that she had actually raised the bar yet again.
If I didn’t know any better I’d say that Milly writes her books with a magic wand and not a pen. The writing style is slick and sophisticated without losing that down to earth Yorkshire charm and wicked sense of humour that Milly is renowned for.

I was immediately hooked to the story of Sophie Mayhew who is married to a handsome and powerful MP who quite simply cannot keep it in his pants. After suffering one humiliation too many, Sophie disappears to a place where she had felt special many years before.

The town of Little Loste was so welcoming with friendly people who were willing to give kindness without question. Throw in a drop dead gorgeous vicar and his four year old son and a new best friend and I felt as at home there as Sophie did.

I loved this book, it enveloped me into loving arms, Sophie was so endearing and I was really rooting for her throughout.

The story was painful, joyful, heartwarming and totally uplifting.

Milly’s writing is such a joy and this book has now become my favourite of hers. It’s fascinating to see that well established and brilliant authors such as Milly can still keep evolving and keep us chomping at the bit for the next amazing book.

Love Milly Johnson books. This is another excellent read. Milly makes her characters so real and you feel for them and dislike some passionately! This is a superb way to while away several cups of tea and cake!

I absolutely loved this. Sophie's journey away from her ghastly family, and in to a new life is heart-warming and enthralling. Milly Johnson has done it again. Highly recommended.

Stunning. Stunning. Stunning. Milly Johnson is a force to be reckoned with. This is yet again another epic story of love, heartbreak and humanity. She is throughly engrossing in how she presented her characters and the situations they find themselves in.

I stumbled across this title after thoroughly enjoying one of Johnson’s other works. Here we meet Sophie Mayhew, wife of an up and coming politician who seems to be the trophy wife - glamorous and beautiful. My impressions of her husband are currently quite negative...he dumped her and then charmed her again while she was still at university and now it appears there is to be a revelation at a major event. I’m intrigued to see where this book will lead, as this short sample did not give much opportunity to get into the story. The description of the setting and the brief explanation of their past are well written and I’m curious to read more.

My thanks go to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to read a sampler of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Another fantastic start from Milly Johnson! In this chapter sample, we are introduced to Mrs. Sophie Mayhew, the wife of a high-flying British politician. As seen in an email from her husband John's communications director to a journalist, the public perception of Sophie may not be as warm as one would expect the wife of the likely future Prime Minister to be. This sample is short, but is more than enough to begin to show that there is much more to Sophie Mayhew than what is shown by the journalists; maybe the spin is completely wrong and there's a completely different side to Mrs. Mayhew that should hopefully become clear as the rest of the novel unfolds.

The first chapter of 'The Magnificent Mrs Mayhew ' from Milly Johnson - and Milly immediately draws in the reader with her strong characters, witty and down to earth dialogue and the premise of a very enjoyable plot indeed. I have since purchased the novel and will be leaving a full review, once read, on Amazon.

This review is based on a chapture sample but a chapter is more than enough to know I will love this book! Yet again, Milly Johnson has written another funny, engaging and captivating book and I cannot wait to read the whole thing!

Talk about girl power, this novel is total girl power combined with the power of Yorkshire, just the best kind of powers! I found it really easy to get into this story and indeed into the book. I listened to it on audiobook and would definitely recommend the narration, it really brought it to life! I enjoyed getting to know Sophie and her old life but I enjoyed getting to know Sophie in her alternate life as well once she takes part in THAT press conference.

One of my favourite things about this book was the setting. I enjoyed the fact that we got to see a different side to Yorkshire, a bit of coast and a bit of quiet. It worked so well for the purposes of telling this story and I just loved being transported there from whatever setting I was in.

I also loved the sense of community and women helping each other as well. Sophie makes some great friends once she gets north of the M25 (of course) and she also has some truly magnificent women supporting her in both locations throughout the book. It is always refreshing reading about women supporting each other rather than them being pitted against each other.

Another aspect I really enjoyed was the enterprising nature of the characters. These characters are ambitious and whether that meant putting themselves forward in government positions, speaking up for themselves when a man has wronged them or taking it upon themselves to start a truly wonderful business, they gave it their all and really weren't afraid to show their ambition!

If you're looking for some strong women, a great Yorkshire setting and getting the ending people truly deserve then this book is definitely for you!

’m the first to admit I love a Milly Johnson story. I know I’m going to get a feel-good read with relatable characters who will steal my heart. The Magnificent Mrs Mayhew is a page turner and, in my opinion, Milly’s best yet!

I enjoyed getting to know Sophie, in the present day as well as 18 years ago at her boarding school, St Bathsheba. It becomes clear that the life she’s living is not a choice but the doctrine she’s been exposed to from her family and St Bathsheba. I connected with her from the beginning, feeling that all important emotional tug. I had a couple of really late nights because I couldn’t put this story down, needing to know what she would do and the choices she would make.

Her family and John F’s are infuriating (apart from Edward who is on Sophie’s wavelength). That British stiff upper lip is very much in evidence, putting advancement ahead of real connections. I wanted to give her a hug and stroke her hair, giving her the nurture lacking in her life. It’s a wonder she didn’t follow in her sister’s footsteps … I was euphoric on the last Sunday in September! Awesome scene 🙂

I didn’t know for sure if Sophie could see through John F’s guile and narcissistic personality. At one point I was shouting at her (causing raised eyebrows from my family!). Breaking a mould, bucking the trend (call it what you will) is not an easy thing to do. Especially when you have no other connections other than a public circle who want to see you fail. Another thing I didn’t know for sure was the choice she would make next. Little Loste is the perfect place for Sophie’s retreat. Ells Bells, Luke and Tracey make this time alive and vibrant. The sun after the rain.

Sophie’s affinity with texture and design is a fabulous theme and as I’ve come to expect from Milly Johnson, there’s a sprinkling of magic too.

There’s so much to love about The Magnificent Mrs Mayhew. It will leave you with that feel-good fizz. But I think just as importantly, Sophie just may provide inspiration for anyone else living with a narcissistic partner. Often it just takes that one thing to act as a catalyst … and books have been known to change lives. ♥
