Wow! I read this in less than a day. It was, in turn, spooky and heartbreaking. Like all good crime novels it had its twists, but they weren't so sudden and far-fetched as to detract from the story. Will be looking out for future books by Alex North.

A serial killer nicknamed the Whisper Man terrorises a village 20 years earlier and is now locked up for his crimes. How is it then that he appears to be back....

The Whisper Man is a well written psychological thriller with elements of supernatural. I can't give any of the story away without spoiling it, but suffice to say that this fast paced book will grab your attention from the outset and then it ratchets up the tension all the way to the ending. A great read 4.5/5.

The Whisper man by Alex North, is a brilliant creepy psychological thriller that I really wished I had the time to read all in one go, it starts of at a cracking pace with a little boy, Neil Spencer who is abducted whilst walking home from his fathers to his mums, at 7 hes too little to be walking home on his own, but life has already made him tough and the sad thing is, his parents don't even realise hes gone for 2 hours, by then the trail is cold. Reminiscent of a case of another boy who was taken 20 years before a little boy that has never been found but DI Pete Willis has never stopped looking, a case that cost him everything.

I don't want to give anything away but I will say this story has well rounded characters and a mounting pace that doesn't let up until the great conclusion. Definitely one of the better books I've read this year x

The Whisper man is an extremely good, no actually great psychological thriller. From the first page to the last it pulls you in as the tension intensifies, it flows along with some heart pounding and some pretty scary moments. After Tom’s wife dies suddenly, he and his 7 year old son are both trying in their individual way to deal with their loss. There are some heartbreaking poignant moments between the two.
Meanwhile a 6 year old boy has gone missing the police linking it to some other abductions and murders of children years ago.
As Tom and Jake adjust to life in a new house and school, things take a creepy and unexpected turn, to say more would spoil enjoyment, just go along with this thrilling engaging read. This author is one to watch.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.

What an amazing debut! This book is the perfect dark thriller that pulls you in to the story and leaves you intrigued as to what will happen. The writing is very accomplished. This will definitely be one of the huge hits of 2019.

The author has captured the harrowing anguish of the whisper man completely within all of the main characters. The estranged relationship between father and son and the tortured feeling of a Dad who feels he isn’t enough for his little boy. The beautiful character of Jake shines through and the realisation of who is helping him is a lovely touch. I was engrossed from the start and as the story comes to a climax you won’t see coming, it leaves you breathless with fear.
I heartily recommend this book, sit down, make a drink and let it take you on its dark and mysterious journey. You won’t be disappointed.
ARC copy.

This is a quality, scary, well written thriller that tells the story of a young boy and his father and their journey through the loss of their mother/wife. Alongside that is the abduction and murder of a young boy. Then there are the whispers.....

It’s a fabulous 4* read with the only reason it not being a 5* for me, that missing something that makes a book absolutely unputdownable and which can’t always be explained.

It’s a great read though and I’ll definitely be recommending as well as watching out for more from this excellent author.

Thanks to Netgalley, Michael Joseph and Alex North for the privilege of being able to preview this book in exchange for my honest review.

It's hard to believe that this is a debut book by Alex North. This was in equal parts, creepy, scary and with a hint of a supernatural element. Excellent read.

When Tom's wife dies suddenly he and his son Jake move to a new town in the hope that a fresh start will help with their loss. Unfortunately their town of choice comes with a very dark past involving a serial killer and a current situation where young boys are being abducted.
I find it hard to review this book without giving too much away so will simply say that I enjoyed this genuinely thrilling book and highly recommend it. I found it unsettling and very creepy but so well written and enjoyable.
A must-read for sure!
Many thanks to Netgalley and publishers for an advance review copy.

First book by Alex North and what a brilliant psychological thriller it has proved to be. The body of a child Neil Spencer is discovered his death bearing an uncanny resemblance to the murder of five children some years ago...but that is impossible as the killer Frank Carter is imprisoned. DI Pete Willis is the policeman in charge but he is haunted by his past failures and his daily struggle with alcoholism...."So drink then. You're worthless . Just do it. The urge was stronger than ever, but he could survive this. After all ,he had resisted the voice in the past"... There is not only a great story line but add to this a touch of the supernatural and characters that jump off the page then we have all the ingredients for a super exciting thriller. Many thanks to the good people of netgalley for a gratis copy in exchange for an honest review and that is what I have written. Highly recommended.

DO NOT READ THIS BOOK AT NIGHT!!! I absolutely love this book. I’m a huge fan of psychological thrillers and I was over the moon to get the chance to read The Whisper Man. And I’m so glad I have.
I was gripped all the way through and it sent shivers down my spine.
Alex North has given us a lot of information about the characters throughout the book and it allows the book to flow smoothly into the next chapter. I do not want to say anything about the storyline as I don’t want to give it away but you definitely have to read this. It will be a big hit. A lot of books you can read and they are easily forgotten but this one will definitely not be.
Thank you for the advance copy.

I am not too sure how I felt about this book. I enjoyed it, to point, but as a mother I was heartbroken to read about poor sad Jake without his mother and with a broken relationship with his father. It made it hard to read without feeling for him.
However it was quite a good read, not the best, but quite palatable.

The Whisper Man by Alex North is a fantastic creepy debut thriller.
Tom and his 7-year-old Son Jake decide to move and make fresh start, after the sudden death of wife and mother Rebecca. They move to a town called Featherbanks and move into a house that the rest of the resident of Featherbacks think is a strange house. Where years before a serial killer lived who killed young boys but, it currently in prison paying for his crimes.
But nothing runs smoothly. Jake ends up in trouble in the first day of his new school. His father catches him talking to an imaginary friend. and remains of a boy is found in the garage. When the police arrive, Tom meets his father Pete, that he hasn’t seen in years. A new bond starts to grow between them. He was involved in the previous case 20 years ago and has made his life’s mission to find out where the Whisper man’s victims are buried. When Neil another little boy goes missing Pete and his colleague Amanda are adamant, they are going to find the killer.
Wow, wow, wow. I loved this. Not only is this a heart stopping creepy thriller that will keep you hooked throughout. But an heartfelt story of a young boy and his father grieving over the death of his mother/wife and how they are trying to rebuild their lives and the bond that grow between them both. I highly recommend.
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Michael Joseph for and ARC of this book. Big fat 5 stars from me.

I'm a huge fan of psychological thrillers so The Whisper Man looked right up my street and I was not disappointed. Not ideal to have a creepy childhood rhyme in my head right before I went to sleep but that aside I LOVED it.
