Holy. Crow. Before today, V.H. Luis’s name never crossed any of my conversations on authors that I must read. Now, l am sitting her like WHERE HAS SHE BEEN?? Waking to Black completely broke me to the point to where I was sobbing while reading it.

Have you ever read a book that owned you from the beginning and made it nearly impossible to put down? Well, Evie in Waking to Black had me from the start. That woman has been through heck and yet she still pushes through. She has her moments where she breaks down and wants to give up. Insert Adam, who is this major rude a--hole, and does something to Evie to bring her out of that shell she is in. Adam gives her a reason to live.

As I began to read Evie’s story I thought her being with Adam would set her back and cause her to do more harm. However, as I continued to read I realized that Adam is saving her and by default, she is saving him. Neither wants to open up about their past because of the pain.

Waking to Black is raw. Like really. It is full of angst -- which I usually refuse to read -- romance, sex, you name it. This book will have you crying those big fat ugly tears and you will want to beat some sense into both Evie and Adam.

You have got to read this book. No doubt about it. Their story continues in Fading to Black.

Oh my be still my beating heart! This book was just intense and steamy. Evelyn has issues and is barely living her life, just plodding along every day until she is caught up in a bank robbery and meets Adam. Adam is intense and captivates Evelyn (as well as being captivated by her). We see how Adam awakens Evelyn over the next few weeks forcing her to live again. Adam also appears to have been hurt in his past and since meeting Evelyn she has disrupted his world.

I really enjoyed this book and enjoyed the writing style which engaged me from the very start. I am super keen to read the second book!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.

Evie and Adam in this read are combustible. They each have their own stories and this book is only in Evie's POV. I was frustrated through this read because she seems to have no backbone. With Adam she does stand up for herself, but with her family not so much! I really would have liked Adam's POV. It really did get frustrating reading this one. You just want to tell her wake the hell up!!! l am on the fence with this one. I well read the next book in this series and give this series a chance.

I received this ARC from the publisher for my honest review via Net Galley! The opinions written are solely my own! Thank you Net Galley!!!

Evelyn first meets the mysterious Adam Black when he rescues her during a bank robbery. They begin a relationship but Evie is plagued by doubts. There is an intense attraction between the two but their story is a bit of a roller coaster with lots of angst.

This is my first book by VH Luis. I thought the author did a great job of creating two memorable characters and developing sizzling chemistry between them. I did get a little annoyed with Evie and her constant self-doubt but I like how she came to own it by the end of the book and take control of her life.

This book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger and I'm looking forward to the second book.

The first time I saw Adam Black, I was between the arms of a criminal, a gun to my throat and even then, I knew I was staring at the most dangerous man in the room.Maybe it was his confident, cerulean eyes, or the sex appeal radiating from his pores like heat waves on a scorching day, but by proximity alone he made my vision blur and my heart stammer. When I started reading I couldn't put it down. V.H. Luis is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can't wait for the next book.

I really liked this amazing start to a new series. Evelyn and Adam are nothing alike but the chemistry between them is intense and steamy. They both have secrets to hide and have a penchant for drama. The story and the characters really drew me in, the sex is hot and the characters have lots of depth. I look forward to reading more of their story. A good read!

I initially requested an ARC of this book simply because I liked the cover. The description held promise, but I was completely unfamiliar with the author and a bit skeptical since it appeared to be self published. While I've read some fantastic self published works, I think most people would agree it can be a bit of a toss up. I was certainly willing to at least give it a try. At first I admit I wasn't a fan of the writing style. It felt very abrupt, maybe too concise for fiction. I was kind of interested in the scene playing out and the characters, so I kept reading. Somewhere along the line either the choppiness resolved or I got too caught up in the characters to notice it. I really liked both Adam and Evie. I found their arguments to be repetitive at times, as though they were forever discussing the same issues without ever really finding resolution. It was part of their admitted flaws, his need for complete control and her need to run and hide when problems arise. Honesty would solve their issues, but they are not there yet. Their chemistry was fantastic to read, and I loved all the ways Adam cared for her while pretending his feelings were neutral. I also enjoyed how Evie constantly challenged him. Their story definitely doesn't end here, and you will have to read book two to know how things end up, but the ending had a bit of resolution and a positive upturn that kept it from truly feeling like a cliffhanger. Overall, I enjoyed my first experience with this author and can't wait to get started on the ARC I was granted of book two tomorrow.

Wow did I like this book. I loved both of their life stories. I can’t wait to read the next one. Adams family is just awful to them and I want them to have happiness.
