I have picked this book up three times, and each time I read I just can’t seem to get into the story. Sorry - it’s a not for me, but am sure others will love it.

I really wanted to like this book but unfortunately, I just couldn't get into it. I think the constant time shifts were a little too much for me to get to grips with.

I could not get into this book at all. I did not like the characters and I struggled to keep reading. Sorry.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

I really tried with this book, but, found it such a hard slog of a read.

It’s basically a domestic drama with a drug addict wife and cheating husband, lots of twists and turns, but, nothing or no one I cared about.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to preview. Just not for me at all.

This book was a bonkers read but I did enjoy it! I loved the descriptions of their luxury lifestyle and trying to guess who would get their come-uppance - the husband or the wife. A good beach read.

A little confusing in places and the character weren't likeable. However still quite a compelling read, with a twisted and dark plot. A story of deceit and betrayal. If you like to be kept on the edge of your seat, this is for you.

Unfortunately this was just not for me, I struggled from the first paragraph but stuck with it hoping at some point it would grip me.. sadly it didn't.

Written in the first person throughout, the two main characters Husband and Wife , Paul and Rebecca are both awfully unpleasant people.

The constant time shifts and twists were just too confusing to me as they were so frequent. I found myself jumping back a few paragraphs each time to try and create a timeline.

I have a feeling it's going to be a marmite book, you'll either love it or hate it!

My struggles with this book began right from the opening paragraph, I did however keep reading in the hope that things would improve, unfortunately, for me, they didn’t. I found the plot disjointed and the timeline confusing. I snoozed my way through to a rather flat and un-thrilling end.

Well, this is a twisty turny one! There's A LOT going on in this book, and you really need to keep your wits about you. Each chapter is written in the first person, from the point of view of a different character, whose name is at the beginning of the chapter. They are mainly from our married couple, but we hear from a few other folk too. And Paul and Rebecca's early chapters are divided into 'Before' and 'After', although it's not clear what is being referred to.

Paul and Rebecca have been married for nearly twenty years, and seem to have an ideal life. Rebecca is a high flying pharmaceutical rep, and although Paul's construction business went under, he is now very successful in real estate. They have a nice house, and a plot of land on which to build a forever home.

But in reality, the cracks between them are huge. Both came with baggage, Paul was married when they met and is a skilled liar, and Rebecca has a chemical dependency which is spiralling out of control. Rebecca discovers clues that Paul is keeping things from her, and makes plans for revenge.

I didn't like either of the main characters. At all. I'm not sure whether I was supposed to like them or not, but I found that they had no real redeeming factors. Fortunately, I strongly disliked them, which meant I still cared about what happened to them. The other characters we come across aren't very pleasant either, except the policemen. I liked them, especially Wolcott, but then I've always been a sucker for a man in a waistcoat! I reckon Silvestri would be better for a night out though.

The first part of the book is quite slow, building up the story, background and characters. But hang in there, as the pace gets going and things get more tense. As I mentioned above, it's a twisty book, and that doesn't let up at all. I enjoyed it, and will look out for other books by this duo.

Rebecca didn't know love was possible until she met Paul, a successful, charismatic, married man with a past as dark as her own. But twenty years later, Paul and Rebecca are drowning as the damage and secrets that ignited their love begin to consume their marriage. Paul is cheating on Rebecca, and his affair gets messy fast.

The story is told from Paul and Revecca's point of view and flips back and forth. They are both untrustworthy characters, Paul cheats on Rebecca and she pops pills. They both have difficult pasts. The first part of the book I found quite confusing. There are several twists and turns. The characters are all so unreliable that it's hard to decide just who is telling the truth. The story definitely got better the further you read and there was a jaw dropping moment.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Orion Pubishing Group and the author E. G. Scott for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

It’s billed as a domestic thriller about secrets and revenge and I have to say a The Woman Inside certainly lives up to this description. It’s told from both the husband and wife’s point of view which aids the story. I did find it to be a slow start at first but I’m glad I stuck with it as once I got part way through I became hooked.

Thank you to NetGalley, Orion Publishing Group and the author for the chance to review.

I'm sorry but not my thing... Long descriptions, going back and forth did not do it any better, Managed to read 30% and gave up which doesn't happen often

Enjoyed this book and the ending was a bit of a shocker - definitely looking to shakespeare for some inspiration.

That said, didn't enjoy the characters really and didn't trust any of them - but I guess that was the point ;)

I struggled with this book to start with, I wasn't invested in the characters, the constant time shift was confusing and I didn't really gel with the tone it was narrated in... however I am glad I stuck with out as the second half really ramped up and I was eager to find out how it would end.

4.5 stars
Paul and Rebecca have been married for nearly 20 years. Both wounded through loss, their relationship has had its ups and downs. But they've got through it. Until Rebecca makes a shocking discovery which is the catalyst for everything spiralling out of control. She believes that Paul is about to leave her, taking everything they have worked for, and this both scares and angers her. She is already wounded with a bad pill addiction and this doesn't really help her cognitive reasoning. To be honest, the story contained in the book is a bit of a car crash and, as we all know, it's hard to look away no matter how hard you try...
Oh my, what a pair! Paul and Rebecca are highly unlikable characters that I really couldn't warm to at all. It meant that I wasn't rooting for either of them along the way. I just wanted to bang their heads together and yell at them to get their acts together. In fact, I was more concerned about the dog - he was kinda cool!
There's a lot going on in this book. And I do mean A Lot. There also the disappearance of another of the characters as well as a couple of clandestine affairs. There's also a healthy dollop of secrets and lies to go with all the manipulative, duplicitous behaviour. It's a twisty turny roller-coaster ride all the way to the end. And an ending that is perfect for what came before.
The way the book is written matches the story well. There are multiple points of view which also flit about in time. You do have to have your wits about you when you read it. To me, this reflected the states of mind of the main characters but it did get a bit overwhelming at times.
It's been a couple of days since I finished the book and I am still not quite sure what to make of the Detectives. They were definitely unique in their methodology and I guess their banter and jocular ways were included to lighten the overall mood of the book - balance things out a tad rather than letting it get too dark.
As for the way things panned out, I did guess a couple of things but I never quite saw That happening! Floored me for a sec... But, at the end of the day, perfectly credible and, with hindsight, very well plotted!
All in all, a satisfying read that, even though I hated both MCs, kept me engaged throughout. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

I found this a strange read - a bit more of a thriller than I expected and in general a very unusual book. It follows married couple Paul & Rebecca who are probably the perfect couple due to the fact that they are both as awful and unpleasant as each other. There is plenty going on to read about - extramarital affairs, drug addiction, stalking to name a few but my enjoyment of this book was tempered somewhat but the constant time shifts which I found confusing and too frequent.
A decent enough read and thanks to Netgalley and publishers for the advance review copy.

My thanks to NetGalley and publisher Orion - Trapeze for the ARC.
This book is a really, really good psychological thriller. Written between Paul & Rebecca - before and after - and the detectives in the 'now' - only the reader has absolutely no idea just what event precipitates the time lines in the beginning. This is gradually teased-out and the reader is drip-fed lots of hints but which lead to lots of different scenarios - no-way would one guess this particular ending!

Heading into their 20th year of marriage, Rebecca and Paul's lives begin crumbling around them.
The property slump has bankrupted Paul's construction business and Rebecca, a successful pharmaceutical rep., has been the major contributor recently to their joint savings fund to build their dream home. Rebecca is resentful but tries to be supportive as talking, sharing and communication become virtually non-existent. Paul's downward spiral is halted by teaming up with Wes, selling real estate, but not before Paul had begun an affair with Sheila, which restores his self-worth for a period before Paul decides to end it.

Rebecca is rather too fond of sampling her company's opioid samples and, after an anonymous tip-off to the company, is forced by her boss, Mark, to resign - although Mark promises to continue to keep her supplied with drugs. Notwithstanding Mark's supplies, Rebecca has also cultivated friendly doctors and has a vast array of pill bottles hidden throughout the house. Paul is well aware of his wife's drug abuse - stemming from prescription painkillers provided to deal with a shoulder injury she'd sustained as a child. They both had a traumatic past, having each lost both parents in tragic circumstances, and Paul remained sympathetic.

The shock of Rebecca's sacking leads her to consider taking their savings (over $1m) and getting away from it all - debating whether she'll take Paul with her or not. Her next shock comes when she discovers the savings account has been virtually emptied over previous months by Paul. But, instead of talking, she reaches for more and more pills, loses track of time, loses items around the house, and paranoia envelopes her.

Mark's wife, Sasha, has gone missing and detectives Silvestri and Walcott interview Rebecca and Paul. Thus begins the unravelling of the 'after'.

Has Rebecca become paranoid? Is Paul lying about being away with Wes whilst planning a new life without her - and with their money?

Well, you'll just have to read it.
This is a story about jumping to conclusions rather than simply getting to the truth; about fear, murder and revenge. For a flavour, mix up a dash of 'War of the Roses' with a dash of 'Fatal Attraction' and read through to an unbelievably tragic conclusion. I didn't mind the ending - I really didn't like any of the characters, except perhaps the detectives, and of course Duff the dog. Rebecca and Paul, in their separate ways, rather deserved each other.

There are plenty of successful writing duos out there. Similarly there are some amazing, crazily implausible thrillers that snatch you up for the joy ride before spitting you out, head spinning, but with a story to dine out on. There are also dozens of books with unreliable narrators that leave you gasping when the final twist is revealed. This book is none of these things, unfortunately.
Without going into the plot and the characters (honestly, you wouldn't believe me if I tried) this book didn't revel in its crazy and ask that you laugh along with it, so all the implausible events were just that, implausible, and annoyed me. The joint writing endeavour didn't feel as though it were a collaboration, but a competition between two writers, waaaaaaaaay past their deadline and at the stage when the m.o. seemed to be 'baffle the reader with every single plot device ever used in a thriller and we can cover up the below par plot'.

I know this is a harsh review, and I do feel a little bit bad, but this book sucked.

My thanks go to the publishers and Net Galley for the advanced copy in return for an honest review.

This book was BRILLIANT!

Paul and Rebecca dance a deadly tango as their lives fall apart and as you read, you wonder were they ever in love in the first place, or was their entire relationship constructed around a fantasy?

Both survivors of tragedies, they meet whilst Paul was married so I get the impression that Rebecca did not 100% trust him. Her spiral into prescription drug addiciton through her job seemed to me to be a deliberate blurring of the lines, a blocking out of reality. Paul has thrown himself into his job but his infidelities mirror his declining prospects-and when he hits rock bottom, there is no where else he can go. And there is nothing more dealy than a cornered amimal…

The plot is skilfully constructed with layer upon layer of artifice and lies that are stripped back, yet, as each discovery is revealed, another mystery takes its place.

I can see why it has been optioned for a television series as it would be perfect for a serialisation!
