I have not read a book before where I can not stand the characters, so this is a first for me. Rebecca, high on some sort of concoction of opiates is married to Paul, back up on his luck guy with a crazy ass stalker of an ex-mistress.

The Woman Inside is told in alternating chapters of Rebecca and Paul and Before and After. What it is before and after is a mystery. The first part of the book the scene is being set, your distaste for this couple and then bam! What the bam is? It is a twist and well, you need to read it!

This is two highly toxic people, that together on equal footing just work. But events have caused them to be distant, add paranoia, deception, lies, and my favourite, an unreliable narrator and you are only scratching the surface with Rebecca and Paul’s marriage. I do love the unreliable narrator part of a story, because I love how an author can just pull the rug from out under your feet, turning what you know on its head.

You can easily fall in the guise of one more chapter with the Woman Inside because they are short and snappy and at times leave you breathless. A couple of scenes in the book I found I was holding my breath!

This was written by two people and it has been blended so well I cannot figure who wrote what bit. The writing worked and got me interested in the lives of Paul and Rebecca, just like car crash tv I couldn’t look away and I had to wait with bated breath to see how it was all going to pan out. Especially when you couldn’t tell where Rebecca’s paranoia began and end, and whether it was a drug-induced cloud or not.

It is slow to start, focusing on what is going on without knowing what is going on, but you will be rewarded if you keep turning that page for sure.

This is an addictive and sinister novel and I’d like to thank Tracy Fenton and Trapeze Books for inviting me to take part in the blog tour and for providing me with a copy of this brilliant book.

Rebecca and Paul have been married for twenty years, they seem to be deeply in love with each other, but they both are keeping secrets from each other. As two women linked to them go missing and two detectives start getting really interested in their lives, Paul and Rebecca know that the lies they have been telling could destroy both of them.

The characters are very well-drawn. There are the two detectives who, with their witty exchanges and their jokes, give an humorous feeling to the story. On the other hand, there is the psychopathic mistress who gave me the chills with her obsession and her sneaking-ins. And then there are the two protagonists. Rebecca and Paul are flawed, often not very likable, and they are unreliable narrators (and I do love unreliable narrators). They have great jobs, a fantastic house, the perfect life. However, they manage to ruin everything with their lies and deceit. Paul’s need to prove that he is a virile and important man, the master of the universe, led him to have a mistress, a locked drawer full of secrets, a friend who covers for him when he lies to his wife. Rebecca also has her own secrets and she has an increasing addiction to pills that make her more and more paranoid.

THE WOMAN INSIDE is unpredictable, unbelievable, and claustrophobic. Character-driven and full of twists and drama, this is a domestic thriller with capital letters about murder, infidelity, jealousies, and deceit that make you question: how well do you know the person you’ve been married to for twenty years?

A very enjoyable read! I was very interested in getting my hands on this one after I read the blurb and I am pleased to say that I was not let down.

The story is written very well and the characters are interesting and jump off the page. I would recommend this read!

An interesting thriller, certainly well written with a good, strong plot and well thought out characters.
I enjoyed it although I know what the others mean about slow burn.
Well worth sticking with though.
Many thanks.

Slow moving psychological thriller that builds the tension nicely throughout. Filled with characters that are difficult to like, it is still an enjoyable read with many twists and turns along the way. Very different to my usual type of read, so was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. A good solid 3.5 star read.

Flawed character. Well actually most of them were not only flawed but darn right unlikeable.

Paul and Rebecca seem to have the perfect life.
Seem, is the correct word.
They have good careers, lovely home which happens to be on the fabulous Long Island.
Where people judge you on materialistic means.

But Rebecca has a problem, no an addiction, and addiction to Opioids that is vastly becoming a severe long lasting hinder to her “wonderful” life.

Paul lost his job, now he’s seeking comfort in extramarital affairs.

It’s all happening!

The affair is with a neighbour, and not all is what it seems when he tries to end the affair.
Trouble brews.

Opioid addiction is real folks. This may be fictional but the increase of reliance on these drugs is very much real.

You don’t have to be poor, or from a dysfunctional home, or have anything real bad happen, it can quite innocently build up to an increased addiction.

This book is not all about that though.
It has the expectations of twists, turns and puzzles that you would expect in any good thriller to keep the reader on its toes.

There were no red herrings in this book the author slowly guided you through it.

Looking back though, there were plenty of clues. I didn’t see them!

This isn’t your typical domestic thriller...oh no....there is:
Murder
Infidelity
Lying
Deceit

I didn’t like the characters, both were:
Flawed
Liars
Loathsome
Annoying
Frustrating
Both were having affairs.

Oh did I mention the stalking!

An incredible domestic thriller/noir with a superb plot and ending.

Thank you Orion publishing group via Net Galley for my copy.

Meet Rebecca and Paul, a couple that at face value seem to have it all - as they are introduced to us simultaneously with dual narratives we realise that everything may not be quite what it seems.

As the plot shifts backwards and forwards in time, to before and after, the mysteries rather than unspooling seem to grow ever more complex. The tension increasing to such a level that I found myself white-knuckled at times as I frantically tried to work out who I was most afraid of and if I could trust anything they told me.

Cleverly constructed with a finale that will have you slack-jawed in disbelief, this is a thriller of the highest order.

Rebecca arrives at work to be told she should leave or be fired. She has been more than keen taking samples in recent times and there has been a tip off to HR. She works for a Pharmaceutical company and hence “samples” are drugs which keep her on balance- in her own mind. (This is the USA- very different to UK Pharma) Going to take some money out she notices that the account balance of her and her husband isn't its usual healthy self. Instead of nearing a million dollars there is a measly $5000. She investigates and finds that Paul, her husband has been making withdrawals in the last few weeks without her knowledge. We discover that they have both had affairs, Paul more so and that his last fling isn’t going to let him go so easily. A mistress who wants her revenge on him Oh boy! This is one of those reads that lures you in for the first few chapters, then you get a sense of unease without really knowing why. There is a tension despite not really knowing where it is leading to. All the signs of a very well written and thought out book. There are twists and turns, as you would expect, but some you really wouldn’t! A book to keep you on your toes. One with suspense, drama and eerie going on. EG Scott is a pseudonym of two writers, one in publishing the other I believe in screenwriting. A name and a book to remember.

The characters in The Woman Inside were too flat for me to get fully into the story and the plot holes were obvious. This could be suited for someone that rarely picks up a thriller book but I read around five a week so I found it predictable and lacking.

I really enjoyed this book in the end , I was a bit bored a quarter of the way in then I got mixed up who the characters are and who was writing that part of the story but I really loved the ending and looking back now it was a really good book
