READ THE BLURB, READ THE BLURB

Because I didn't!
Just about coped with the subject matter.

As always beautifully written, fantastically believable characters and a message of value.

Noah and Kerry are brother and sister but they have never met. This is the story of them finding each other, realising what sacrifices they have and will have to make and why their lives started the same but turned out so differently
You will definitely cry, and sparkle!

I LOVED this book and I'm so glad Mike Gayle managed to make me laugh again! The characters in this book were so believable and I believed all of their emotions so much. Kerry was by far my favourite and I feel like everyone knows someone like her who grafts despite the horrible cards that have been dealt to her. Kian made me smile so much and sounds just like real kid, Noah was a fantastic character and you could really see how hard it was for him in this book but I love that it was a journey for him and that slowly he started to develop better communication habits. I wish we got to see a bit more of Rosalind as I really liked her strong nature but also understand it wasn't her story. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and it very nearly brought me to tears!

A heart-rending read - it actually made me cry - but an excellent story. The main characters (Kerry and Noah) pull you into their respective worlds, and the story is nicely woven between the two. There are some other wonderful warm-hearted characters, and others who are not so nice but essential to the tale.

Be warned - you may need a cup of tea, some tissues and a hug in places - but you'll probably be glad you read this book.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC in return for my honest review.

A beautifully written tale of two siblings, separated at a young age once they entered the care system. Kerry lived through a care home and has made her way through life alone apart from her 10 year old son, while Noah was adopted at the age of 2 by an affluent family and is now a barrister. The story follows the outcome as Kerry reaches out to brother to try and rebuild her family ties.

I recieved an early preview copy of this book from netgalley in return for an honest review.
I have read and enjoyed books by Mike Gayle years ago, but I had not read any of his more recent books. I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but it was absolutely stunning.
Noah is a successful barrister, Kerry is a single mother and a cleaner. They appear to have nothing in common, except the fact that Noah is Kerry's brother, who was adopted as a toddler, while Kerry was raised in care. Kerry has never forgotten her brother, Noah doesn't even know that he has a sister. As they are reunited, their lives will be changed forever.
This book is very well written and is so compelling. Although the story is very emotional and tear-jerking in places, you have to keep on reading it. I finished the book a few days ago, and I am still thinking about the book and the characters. It is definitely a book that stays in your mind long after you have read it.

This book is most definitely a success. I cried at the end and that’s rare for me. Beautifully written!

This story is about Kerry a single mum who has built up her own cleaning business. As a child she was taken into care and separated from her brother. She has spent a great deal of her adulthood trying to trace him. Noah her brother is a barrister leading a comfortable life with his wife and teenage daughter with no idea that he had a sister until he finds a handwritten letter on his doorstep.

I really enjoyed this story. The only thing that irritated me about this was the character of the teenage daughter. She was far too perfect to be believable. It is a really fast paced book which had me turning the page to find out what was going to happen next. The ending had me in tears.

I have to admit to being biased. I have read and loved everthing Mike Gayle has published but this is one of his best.
There are very few writers of this calibre who can write a book like this that will appeal to both a male and female audience.
To give details would be to spoil the story but the strength of the characters makes them feel real and sorry when you reach the end of the book..
This is a rare thing these days (At least for me it is).
All in all recomended. If you are a couple going on holiday this summer take this book as you will both enjoy it equally.

Mike Gayle is at his very best with this book. His characters are always so believable that they feel like friends and Noah, Rosalind, Millie, Kerry and Kian are no exception. They take us through heartbreak and hope and literally made me cry into my kindle!

Beautifully written - Mike Gayle's done it again! I was gripped by the story throughout. I can't think of anything I'd want to change - it was perfect. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Mike Gayle has a way of writing that draws you immediately into his novels. There is such realism and honesty in this lovely book about two people who could not be more different. Kerry is a single mum to Kian and struggles every day to do her very best for him. Kian is her absolute world but she has never forgotten the little brother she was separated from when she was just a child. Noah is a successful barrister who has experienced a comfortable upbringing with his adoptive family. Their worlds are just about to collide.

This is funny, heartbreaking and uplifting read. Kerry is feisty, funny and tough. Noah, despite his success, if full of self-doubt which he cannot bring himself to share with his wife. Will they be able to help each other? I’m not going to give much away. The supporting cast are excellent and range from Noah’s slightly eccentric partners to Jodi whose love for and loyalty to Kerry are unbreakable.

This novel made me laugh and cry in equal measure. Beware reading it in a public place. Highly recommended.

Wow what a book!! I have read all of Mike Gayle's novels and loved every single one and this one is no exception. It made me laugh and also cry so much that I had to stop reading it on the tube as I was getting too many funny looks!

I won't go into the story as it might spoil it for others, but there was so much going on and the book was so well written that it wasn't confusing. I warmed to all of the characters and writing it by 2 people's perspectives really worked well.

Can't wait for the next one!

Thank you to netgalley for the advance preview of this book.

Mike Gayle just keeps getting better and better. Loved this story with very readable characters. Tender family drama which pulls at the heartstrings.

An uplifting read from Mike Gayle, that was both heartwarming and heartbreaking in equal measures. I particularly liked the character of Noah who felt authentic and real, as he grappled to understand who he was and where he came from.

The story of Kerry and her son Kian, who live a modest life. Kerry lived in care since she was young. She had a brother, Jason, who she adored,, but they were seperated and she never knew what happened to him. Jason wss adopted, and has led a successful life. This is the story of what happens when they are reunited. A dramatic bombshell halfway through the atory changes absolutely everything - and had me in floods of tears from that point on, but I don’t want to ruin it by telling what happens!!! I absolutely loved this book and would highly recommend.

Mike Gayle has done it again. He has a great talent to write so beautifully on such a raw, honest and hard topic.
Both storyline and characters are very strong- Mike gives us both sides of what’s going on . A very fair piece of writing.
Highly recommended

What a dazzling book! Without doubt my favorite read of 2019. This book is beautiful, absolutely beautiful. I love Milk Gayle and he's really outdone himself on this one. I loved the characters immediately - Kerry especially and I loved how she shone through the pages. I laughed out loud at this book, and cried at this book, and smiled at the book and felt all the emotions in between. I feel so lucky to have devoured this book and will be 100% recommending to everyone I know - including my book club.
