I love this series of books and have read them more times than I can count. Logan McRae is my absolute go to when I need to immerse myself in fiction.

This book does not disappoint and as usual I found myself laughing out loud at the interactions of Steel and McRae.

Always drama and intrigue, plenty of twists and turns I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Highly recommended, 5 stars from me.

Loved this book. Not just a standard crime story but links to Scottish history and present day extreme politics. Extremely well written and keeps you guessing as to what happens next. Never a dull moment

Love this series so much, each book just gives so much more to the characters.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.

Book 12! I can’t believe it’s book 12! The yearly visit to Aberdeen is one of the advents of my reading year and as ever MacBride, Logan, Steele, Tufty et al do not disappoint.

The trademark humour that sets these books aside from the usual crime fiction is here and as strong as ever.

And as usual it’s all absolute chaos! MacBride is not afraid to shock, if he sees a boundary he tends to just trample through and often can leave you open mouthed whilst doing so!

I often think to myself that Logan’s Aberdeen is some kind of parallel universe. Because what happens there does often need to be taken with a punch of salt. But it’s extremely good fun, MacBride doesn’t let you down, and I am simply a huge fan.

I felt maybe there was a leaning toward the end of Logan in this book. I certainly hope it’s not but if the end is near and the curtain is soon to close, I can only thank Mr MacBride for years of happy reading

Another well constructed scottish police investigation from Stuart MacBride. This gripping novel does the job properly.

Fan flipping tastic as all of Stuart Macbrides tales are! Gripping with his usual dark humour this is a must read!

Book twelve in the Logan McRae series and Stuart Macbride is still not pulling any punches when it comes to putting his characters through the wringer. In 2014 Scotland went to the polls to decide if we should become an independent country to say there were strong feelings on both sides is an understatement. After the results were announced the matter was not allowed to rest and strong voices on both sides continue to dominate media platforms.

MacBride taps into this divisive anger and highlights the political tensions which would accompany anger which would surely surface if one of those strong voices were to be murdered (presumably by someone that disagreed with their opinion). It’s a murder story with lots of background politics and you know this will not sit well with McRae and Roberta Steel – a treat for readers awaits.

Another strong entry to the series, I enjoyed this one but did find it uncomforable seeing our political disagreements escalated into a dark tale of murder. The interactions between the characters are always a joy in the McRae books and the humour shines through.

Reading a Stuart MacBride book is never a bad decision, All That’s Dead brought the fun and the thrills and I will be back for more.

A great read. Logan McRae is back, and straight into the heart of Scottish crime. Excellent, and relevant to the current climate.

“Well-paced thriller with multi-dimensional characters.”

Rating: ****

Plot: “There’s a darkness in the heart of Scotland…
The stunning new Logan McRae thriller from No. 1 Sunday Times bestseller Stuart MacBride.
Scream all you want, no one can hear…
Inspector Logan McRae is looking forward to a nice simple case – something to ease him back into work after a year off on the sick. But the powers-that-be have other ideas…
The high-profile anti-independence campaigner, Professor Wilson, has gone missing, leaving nothing but bloodstains behind. There’s a war brewing between the factions for and against Scottish Nationalism. Infighting in the police ranks. And it’s all playing out in the merciless glare of the media. Logan’s superiors want results, and they want them now.
Someone out there is trying to make a point, and they’re making it in blood. If Logan can’t stop them, it won’t just be his career that dies.”

Pros: * Topical- the Scottish Independence debate is still ongoing
* The characters have depth- no one is 100% pure or 100% evil. Although the victims do meet gruesome ends, they aren’t painted as the most admirable and moral of humans. Some of the characters are funny, some annoying. There’s a really good mix which is good as we do meet a lot of characters in this book.
* Well paced.
* Not really that gory. A lot is left up to the imagination.

Expectations: I’m a fan of Scottish crime, living with a Shetlander, so it is a genre I naturally gravitate to. This is the first Stuart MacBride I’ve read and it won’t be the last.
Thanks to NetGalley for my ARC.

A different genre to what I usually read but I was Intirgued with this book and I was not disappointed! A gripping page turner with fantastic characters I didn’t want to put it down. the writer has a talent to bring the story to life in your head and that’s a massive talent in its self .

Loved this and will look at his other books now

A must read

If you enjoy Stuart MacBride, you'll love this and if you've never read any of his books, you're in for a treat!

This is another in the series featuring Logan McRae and it's fast paced and action packed from the very first page. With witty dialogue and plenty of exciting turns, you'll be riveted right until the very last page.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC without obligation.

I’ve read a couple in this series but I couldn’t get into this one for some reason. I‘d put down, then pick it up again but in the end I give it up. Which is a shame as I really enjoyed the others I’ve read.

This is the first time I have read a book by this author and despite the fact that this in a series, you can easily read it as a stand alone. Cleverly written, intense plot with plenty of dark humour and wit which is unusual for a crime thriller. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading more from this author.

My thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for the opportunity to read and review honestly.

Yep this was ace. I have enjoyed Stuart MacBride's books previously, and this was no exception. It has grit, humour, pace and detail. I liked the continuation of Logan's story, and I liked the actual plot of this one. The relationships between the characters, especially those on the police force, are well written and funny. I feel like we know them in depth by now and this adds to the reading experience for me.

I would 100% recommend this.

I have read other books by this author and I must start by saying that I have loved all those that I have read and this book did not let me down as it was really good as well. The Logan McRae is a superb character and one that the reader can easily sympathise with all his trials and activities.
I did not feel that the start was a gripping as some of the other books of his but it did not. take long before I was totally hooked and unable to put the book down. I adore the funny nicknames that he gives his colleagues as it is made it very easy to visualise them.
The book is full of many totally unexpected twists and turns throughout which left me not sure of what was going to happen next. This book was full of political ribaldry, which some people I have spoken to did to like, but I personally thought that it formed a sound basis for the story and although politics can be very droll Stuart has added enough humour To overcome this.
A great read.

I really, really wanted to like this.
It started with a bang and hooked me straight in for the first few chapters.
However, this was the first of the author's novels that I've read and I somehow felt likeI'd arrived late to a party and didn't know anyone there. The humour, which actually made me laugh out loud at first, became a bit of a hindrance while I was trying to work out who was who and if I'm honest, the Scottish dialogue style also distracted from what was a gritty story line.
I read half of it but then put it down.
Really sorry to say all this. I know Mr MacBride has a solid fan base so the chances are it's probably just me. I may well buy the first in the series and get to know the characters slowly then I'd probably enjoy it more.

I absolutely love anything by Stuart MacBride and again he didn't disappoint!

Logan is back from sick leave and must look into the disappearance of a professor from Aberdeen. How is this related to the political tension in Scotland? He is thrown in at the deep end when more crimes are committed. Will he be able to figure this 1 out?

I love the humour in these books especially DS Roberta Steele. She will not keep quiet for anyone and speak her mind even if it gets her into trouble sometimes.

An absolute must-read crime thriller!

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Back at work after recovering from a stabbing Inspector Logan McRae just wants a gentle return. No hope! Professor Wilson is missing and there is lots of blood in his kitchen. Logan is tasked with supporting the officer in charge of the investigation.
This is only the start of this fast paced book where body parts are sent but no ransom note. Things go from bad to worse for Logan.
Brilliant book, read and see what u folds.

A good read.

I felt connection with inspector and not with other characters.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK Harper Fiction for giving me an advance copy.
