This is the first title I have read by Camilla Way but I hope not the last. I was particularly impressed by the insight into psychological therapies which were fascinating to read about.
I really didn’t see the end coming!

Fast paced thriller about sisters, Ruby and Vivienne. 32 years ago, Ruby was killed and the killer was put away thanks to the evidence that Vivienne provided.

Now. with the man released from prison, we begin to doubt. Did he really kill Ruby?

Full of more ups and downs than the big dipper. Lots of red herrings. Be prepared to be amazed.

I thought this would be a lot better than it was. I figured out who killed Ruby early on, despite the characterisation not supporting it and having had EMDR, that aspect didn't really ring true for me.

Disappointing.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC without obligation.

It’s starts with a shocking scene of two sisters and a dead body. The pace and thrill of this book doesn’t stop even after it’s finished. Incredible and the number is twists and turns do not disappoint

Viv's sister Ruby was murdered when she was young and her testimony got Ruby's boyfriend convicted but his family swear he didn't do it. All grown up now and with her own daughter she finds herself drawn back to that day her sister died. Can she finally learn the truth before she loses her own daughter.

This was a really interesting read with a brilliabt twist. Towards the end I began to wonder but the reasoning for it took me by surprise. The plot is steady then picks up until the end. The ending was really well done and a clever way to end the story. I wasn't a big fan of Viv, some of her decisions were awful but I could relate to her by the end. I liked Cleo though she was a really good addition to the story. The writing is detailed and builds a picture. A great thriller.

This was a romp of a read. I finished it in three sittings it was so engaging and fast paced.
A thriller with so many questions and where everybody could be the bad guy. Just perfect.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Camilla Way for the arc in return for my own views review.

Ruby was the victim of murder by a jealous boyfriend her unborn child also died. A sad tale but all the bad guys got caught - but did they; was the evidence of child manipulated were the memories correct or a false recollection - kept me guessing

The opening chapter really grabbed my attention, but then I felt the book was a little slow but then it really picked up in the second half, with a really surprising ending.

Kept me riveted throughout, a few characters a little flimsy but didn’t detract from the overall story too much. Really enjoyed it

The book starts with the death of Ruby, who had been Vivienne’s sister. Vivienne had only been eight years old when she was murdered. To find herself the chief witness at that age must have been incredibly stressful. The person responsible, Ruby’s boyfriend Jack, was imprisoned for her murder, for which he got a sentence of thirty years. However, thirty years later, weird things start happening. Was the right person found guilty? The book follows Vivienne and her mother Stella after they move away to rebuild their lives.

Vivienne now has her own daughter, Cleo. However she is still racked with nightmares every night about her sister’s death. Vivienne feels there is something she should have done, said or remembered and this causes her incredible distress. If only she could remember. All she can remember is waking up in the wardrobe of her sister’s bedroom, with her sister’s body lying on the bed. When she tries to remember, her memory is completely blocked.

There are some great characters in this book, and I loved the solidarity of the women in Vivienne’s life as she grew up. She owns a cafe thanks to her grandparents who she never met leaving her their worldly goods on their death. Her life is relatively good, as she spends time supporting her daughter and her mother, who fill her life. On the 32nd anniversary of her sister’s death, however, she is sent nearly dead flowers, her sister’s favourite. Someone has gone to some lengths to scare her as the flowers are out of season. This starts Vivienne’s search back into the past.

At the same time, her daughter is forging ties with a boy her age online. She decides to keep him a secret from her mother. Cleo is delighted to receive texts from Daniel and seems to enjoy having a relationship of her own. Her mother is also starting to date a man she meets who comes into the cafe regularly. Everyone is pleased that her mother has someone in her life.

There is a lot happening in a short time and the tempo of the book increases rapidly. There are red herrings galore and twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. The writing is solid and I couldn’t put the book down until I found out who killed Ruby. I liked the fact that the book continued at a slower pace at the end as all the loose ends were tied up. It is a shocking conclusion and one that I didn’t see coming. Great thriller writing. I will definitely search out more book by this author, she has an excellent writing style, definitely one which I enjoyed.

Three women. One terrifying secret...

What an absolute thrill ride from start to finish. I (usually fast asleep by 9pm) was up until 11pm just so that I could finish this in one sitting.

We learn early on that Vivienne lost her older sister Ruby at a very young age, a victim of domestic abuse turned to murder. Only 8 years old, Viv’s testimony put Ruby’s boyfriend behind bars for 30 years despite maintaining his innocence throughout. Now an adult with a thriving business and a child of her own, Viv’s past comes back to haunt her as she starts to question her own memories about that fateful day.

There were so many shocks in this story, my heart was racing and I found myself sitting forwards as I read, urging Vivienne to get to the truth. The final twist was one so big that even I, am aficionado of mystery thrillers, did not see it coming and it was DELICIOUS!

I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t delve any further but this is definitely one you won’t want to miss! I’d give it 6/5 stars if I could!

I received an ARC of this novel from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Who Killed Ruby? is a little stunted. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the novel’s third-person, present-tense narrative. This is purely a personal gripe, but the unique narration made the novel seem stiff to me. The characters also felt too formal and far away to establish connections with the reader, although I did feel for our protagonist, Viv, and her daughter in times of immediate danger.
This novel could have benefitted from a little more foreshadowing, and a lot more show-don’t-tell. As a writer, I recognise that telling is a necessary “evil”, and isn’t inherently bad storytelling, but oftentimes it felt as though I was reading instructions or a transcript. Every time I was pulled into the story, I felt as if the book was pushing me right back out.
Nevertheless, the second half of the novel was fast-paced and rather gripping, with an intriguing plot that didn’t stop unfolding until the last page. But it’s important to recognise that good plotting is not equal to strong writing. I feel like the dialogue and narration was far too wooden for me to truly believe in this story.
With a little more work on the voice and characters, I think this book could have been the nail-biting thriller it was advertised as, but everything seemed too muted for me. Who Killed Ruby? ultimately fell flat.

This was an interesting story. Who killed the person who was convicted of killing Ruby? The story kept me guessing and was interesting.

32 years ago when Vivienne was just 8 years old her 16-year old pregnant sister was killed. Vivienne helped identified and put away Ruby's killer.

Now she is living with her 13-year-old daughter and owns her own cafe, with her mum living nearby. But one night she is having a dinner party with her mum and some friends and she gets a little too drunk and passes out on the sofa. But when she awakes her boyfriend who she has only been seeing for a few weeks as gone and also as her daughter.

Vivienne had been getting a few strange things just before this happened and she thinks it is Jack, the guy she put in jail for Ruby's murder. Now she thinks that her boyfriend has helped Jack to kidnap her daughter and he wants her to tell the truth about who killed ruby.

I really enjoyed reading this and even though there was loads of twists and red herrings, I knew very early on who had killed Ruby and also who had taken Vivienne's daughter. - I would make a great detective!

I really enjoyed the ending to this book, it tied everything up nicely.

4/5 stars

This book is everything a suspense thriller should be. It is dark and twisty, leading the reader down one path, persuading them to take a wrong turn, retrace their steps, and start again.

Vivienne's testimony helps put a man in jail for the murder of her sister, Ruby. But Vivienne was only 8 years old at the time of Ruby's death and what she saw was so confusing that as an adult she doesn't really understand what she saw.

30 plus years later it is time to unravel the past and find out the truth, but sometimes is it better for the truth to lay buried?

This is a real page turner. Well written, intriguing plot with a sinister undercurrent throughout. I like the way the story started with a gripping prologue and how events came full circle in the end.
