Really enjoyed this ‘who dunnit’ book.
Read this book in 3 days. Without giving the plot away, there’s lots of twist and turns and I didn’t quite know who dunnit till the end. Well written book and would recommend

Ruby is 16 and very heavily pregnant by her violent boyfriend jack
Viv is her baby sister aged 8 who loves Ruby
Stella is their mum who loves them both
But then one night when Stella is out viv is watching tv in living room when the door goes ruby runs down as she is expecting jack but it’s not him so Ruby goes to her room then viv hears someone going upstairs and Ruby is shouting then there is a loud bang
Viv goes up the stairs and into Ruby’s room to see her sister dead on the floor and then viv is in the wardrobe and a policeman is helping her out saying what happened and viv says Jack did it
32 years later this moment in time will come back and haunt Viv at the most distressing time of her life

Really enjoyable and gripping read. I didn’t predict how it would turn out and it was nice to finish it and think about the way it all came together

I read Who Killed Ruby? in just a day and even though I kind of knew what was going to happen, it's a fast-paced, gripping story that will leave the readers completely breathless!

A tale of revenge and violence, the story of Roby and Viv, Cleo and Stella is entertaining and it's very very difficult to put down!

I loved this book - but I love all of the author’s works.
This is fast paced and will keep you guessing. Brilliant curve ball that I didn’t see coming.
I devoured this in one day and half the night!
5/5 on goodreads and Amazon.

*3.5 STAR, BUT ROUNDING UP*

When I first read the synopsis for Who Killed Ruby?, I was instantly interested, and of course I had to request a copy on NetGalley. It has taken me a while to actually get around to reading it, as I had a bit of a backlog, but finally I got to it, and although it wasn’t as good as I had expected, I did still enjoy it.

It had an interesting storyline, which focused on Vivienne and her family. 32 years ago, Vivienne’s sister, Ruby, was murdered when she was just 16 years old, and heavily pregnant. At the time of the murder, Vivienne was just 8 years old, and was the only other person in the house when the murder took place. But is she remembering the events of that day the way that they actually happened? Is what is currently happening to her and her daughter connected to the death of her sister?

I really liked the way that Camilla Way tied the two stories together, and although they were set in different times, at no point did it make the book confusing, which can often happen with books that are set in multiples periods of time. I did predict a few aspects of the story from around half way, but that didn’t make the rest of the book any less interesting or less enjoyable to read, especially because there were also a few surprising throughout the book, and the ending was extremely well executed.

The characters all had very different personalities, which was another aspect of the book that I enjoyed. Looking at each character individually was interesting and fun to read, and the mix of people also made the book feel more real.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read, but not one that I couldn’t put down.

This is a twisted and overlong story about mother and daughter relationships. Cafe owner Viv is haunted by the murder of her sister 30 years previously. The novel was slow, with two unnecessary subplots and characters I could not engage with.

The story opens with Vivienne and her Mother looking at a dead man on the floor. They speak: “ What will we do? “ she asks, her teeth chattering with shock. “ What will we tell them?”
The seconds drip by slowly until her Mother at last replies. “ We tell them that this is the man who murdered Ruby” she says.

We then are taken back to two months earlier.

Vivienne is a cafe owner and lone mother to a teenage daughter Cleo who live in a nice house together. She has a lovely supportive gay friend called Samar who has a new partner Ted and is all loved up.
Vivienne’s mother Stella figures largely in Vivienne’s life being her only surviving child. Stella runs a refuge/ half way house for waifs and strays as a stop gap until they move on. Her relationship with Vivienne at times is awkward but there is a family bond there even if strained at times. Stella took her daughter Vivienne, after Ruby was killed, to a refuge and then a women’s commune for many years before leaving abruptly.

Vivienne was eight years old when Ruby, aged 16 and eight months pregnant was murdered. She has been living with her sister Ruby’s murder every since. At eight years old, it was her evidence that convicted Ruby’s boyfriend Jack of her murder but she has recently been receiving anonymous letters saying she was wrong. These letters have made her question whether she made a mistake especially as Jack always protested his innocence. Having served his time Vivienne starts to wonder if he [Jack]is out to seek revenge for this miscarriage of justice and the reader starts to wonder who really did kill Ruby?

There are lots of characters in the story to make you wonder who might have killed Ruby if not Jack. Or indeed did Jack do it?

If Jack is back [he had gone abroad when released from prison] after twenty six years, who is he, is he someone she knows, talks to?

The writer casts aspersions on a number of male characters, all a similar age, making the reader suspicious of their motives and providing enough uncertainty to make them all seem guilty. The new next door neighbour Neil is portrayed in a poor light as a creepy, lonely middle aged divorcee intent on forging a friendship with the pair. He knows a lot about computers and online gaming which makes him a suspect when we learn that Cleo is being groomed online by the so called teenager Daniel, a fellow gamer. There’s also Shaun who is one of Stella’s ‘guests’ that Vivienne has a one night stand with. He is not happy with this and becomes abusive. He has preiviously been in prison. There is also Vivienne’s new boyfriend, the mysterious Alek, a refugee from Kosovo and practising anaesthetist and there are all the ingredients to make this a gripping thriller.
Both storylines come to a head when Cleo goes missing, having agreed to meet Daniel and Vivienne is convinced Jack is somehow responsible for her abduction.

Full of twists and turns with a shocking twist at the end, Who killed Ruby will keep you guessing and has lots of red herrings that make you change your mind as to who you thought was who and who might have killed Ruby. I read this in a short time as I really wanted to know the ending and to see if any of my only half guesses where correct. I would recommend this book.

Viv was eight years old when her 16 year old pregnant sister Ruby and unborn child were killed by her violent boyfriend Jack.

Ruby's (the only witness to the horrific crime) testimony ensured Jack got put away and served 30 years for her sisters and unborn baby's death.

Ruby and her Mum flee Essex to London and take refuge in a woman's commune to try to rebuild their lives.

The story follows an older Ruby with a daughter "Cleo" of her own still plagued with nightmares and flashbacks of the past Ruby still lives in the shadow of that horrific day.

So this was my first booked of 2020 and all I can say is I hope the rest of the books that I read this year are as gripping, the bar has been set! This book had me hooked all the way though full of drama and twists and turns aplenty.
Wonderful characters and subject areas that have been well thought out and researched.
If your after read full of suspense, suspicion, secrets and surprises then look no further an easy five from me.

Be great to read a follow up of Jack or Stella's story!

I really enjoyed this psychological thriller. I was drawn in from the start and hooked the whole way through - it was so difficult to put down. There were lots of suspects, plenty of twists and turns and I was kept guessing to the end - which I didn't see coming and really loved. The characters were engaging and interesting.

This is an intriguing psychological thriller which I highly recommend.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review

Oooo this was a good one, had me up half the night page turning just to see what happened. Great characters and plot and a really good psych thriller

A physiological thriller with an almost slow pace to begin with, however the last 25% of the book is incredibly tense and unputdownable. I did guess the twist and also felt like there was a lot of ‘filler’ content but I cannot fault the last quarter!
