I thoroughly enjoyed this authors first book but this one fell a bit short for me. I struggled to get into it and guessed who it was half way through

I enjoyed reading Who Killed Ruby but my enjoyment was lessened a little by guessing who the villain was a fair way from the reveal. The book was well written and I have read one of Camilla way’s books before which was also good. I would read other books by Camillia.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley here is the blurb.

"If you passed it on the street, you’d see an ordinary London townhouse.
You might wonder about the people who live there, assume they’re just like you.
But inside a family is trapped in a nightmare. In the kitchen, a man lies dead on the blood-soaked floor. Soon the police will come, and they’ll want answers.
Perhaps they'll believe the family’s version of events – that this man is a murderer who deserved to die.
But would that be the truth?"

Liked the blurb and wanted to read more. The book was easy to read however I did find the pace of the book quite slow at times and I did consider giving up once or twice. I did guess some of the outcome of the book however, not all of it. My favourite character was the mysterious doctor and I would have liked to find out a bit more about his backstory. My least favourite character was Shaun as he was creepy and reminded me of someone in real life!

Overall I thought it was ok but did struggle at times to keep going.

The opening scene of Camilla Way's latest book is explosive. There's a man lying on the floor - he's covered in blood - and the killer tells you that this is the man that killed Ruby. So that answers that then - Who killed Ruby? Obviously...the man lying on the floor covered in blood. Never has a book title been resolved so quickly and suddenly before. Or has it. That is what I absolutely love about this book - I had questions the minute I finished the first few pages. Who is Ruby? Why is she dead? Who killed her? Who killed this man? Who are they...? Who? Who? Who... dynamic and intriguing, I wanted to know more, and that is when Camilla Way hooked me.

That is the sign of a good book. The other sign? As the book progressed I completely forgot that opening scene. Why? Because so much was going on! So much was happening - my attention was instantly diverted elsewhere so that when the book made it's natural progression back to those opening scenes it was like a sudden shock...my gosh yes... this...this...and this...It all makes sense now!

Camilla Way was a brand new author to me - but don't you just love it when you discover a new author and they have a great back-stock of books just waiting to be read. I do. Can't wait to dive in.

* spoiler alert ** With a title like this,it's almost certain that the killer isn't going to be who they say it is.
This is an entertaining read.... it wasn't particularly believable to me,but it kept me entertained for a few hours.
Is guessed who it was by about half way through despite numerous red herrings.
The last few chapters felt a bit like EVERYTHING was being thrown at it.

I loved Camilla Way's first book Watching Edie so I was keen to read this latest book Who Killed Ruby?
This was an absorbing and gripping read from beginning to end. The depth of the characters is fantastic and the story had me gripped and kept me guessing, I just could not put this book down.
I would very highly recommend Who Killed Ruby to anyone, be prepared to be completely drawn in by the amazing characters and the emotional rollercoaster ride.

This book opens with a man dead on the floor surrounded by three people. They will tell the police he killed Ruby. But did he?

I really enjoyed this book, it was a fast read, I think I finished in a few hours over a few sittings. I liked how the opening was really strong and the book went back to go over the events leading up to the events.

We follow Vivienne, Cleo and Stella who have all been affected by Ruby's death in different ways. Vivienne was Ruby's little sister and witnessed her murder when she was a child. This still haunts her and we see how this impacts on her life. I found the section on EMDR interesting, I'd not seen it used in a novel before. It was a good way to bring in the information.

This book has a great beginning:. The reader is thrust straight into the action and then the main character and her daughter guide us through the back story and onto th present day. In parts the chief character was inbelievable but in other parts the action was disturbing to read and the plot was gripping! The last chapters contained many surprises and I certainly did not guess how the story would pan out. Therefore I would recommend that the reader stays with this book to the absolute end and be prepared to put it down with a "wow I wasn't expecting that".

You know that you were properly immersed in an author’s writing and the world they’ve created when you’re still thinking about it hours after finishing it...

The opening scene sets the pace of the story with a flash-forward, there is a man dead on the floor, and the apparent killers reveal that this is the man who killed Ruby.

Vivienne has never been able to leave her traumatic past behind her. The murder of her beloved older sister and her unborn child continues to plague her dreams. The man who was convicted has always protested his innocence, and Viv cannot remember what actually happened, only what she told the police. When the anniversary of the murder comes around and Viv receives mysterious packages, she fears Jack has tracked her down and is looking for revenge.

Viv’s daughter Cleo is the other perspective in the book. She is online messaging with a guy who will not talk to her on the phone and quite frankly is obviously not a 14 year old boy, so it is not surprising when this leads Cleo to trouble. The only thing that can save her is her mother remembering what happened that fateful day that Ruby was murdered.

However, that is the only part of this story I was able to predict. I was kept guessing, and truly could not have predicted the outcome. I also loved the process of Viv’s memory recollection, getting it back piece by piece with her and experiencing her shock. Very well crafted story that really hooked me from the start. Definitely a sold 4/4.5 stars!

Wow....really enjoyed this book by an author that is new to me.
This book gripped from the beginning and kept you guessing right to the end where there were 2 massive twists.
Viv s pregnant sister was murdered in the family home when Viv was just a child. The evidence she gave police at the time convicted a man for the murder.
The story looks at vivs life as she grows up alongside her relationship with her mother. It looks at her current life where she is a mother to 13 year old Cleowho after a dinner party is abducted.
The past and the present become intertwined as the hunt for Cleo is on whilst Viv tries to remember dark secrets from her past.
An excellent read which I highly recommend.

This book moved so swiftly that it had me hooked from the get go. I have been typically reading police thrillers recently so this was refreshingly different.
The story revolves around Viv who found her pregnant sister Ruby dead in her bedroom over 30 years ago. The plot goes backwards amd forwards in time, fills in the gaps nicely and has you guessing who did it right till the end. Lots of suspense, fear and thrill along the way.
There's lots of characters in this story all well developed with lots of twists and turns. I definitely recommend this.

This was a very captivating book, and particularly by the end it had me totally hooked.

The book opens with a scene of a dead man on the floor, and the agreement that the man before them is the man who killed Ruby. But who is Ruby? We know she's a daughter, a sister, a soon-to-be mother, an aunt. But families hide secrets, and things are not always what they seem.

The characterisation in this book is lovely, the characters deep and rich. Were things a little far fetched at times? Yes. Did I guess 90% of the plot twists? Yes. But do I read too many crime thrillers? Absolutely, so it's my own fault. Nevertheless I enjoyed the book and think it was a very enthralling read.

Wow this is a stunning book! Very cleverly written, plenty of red herrings and omg I am used to reading these kinds of books but jeez! Some total shocks in this one. I raced through this book, there were no dull moments whatsoever. I have to admit I read through the first couple of chapters again when I had finished it to see if things were more obvious on the second reading. Just brilliant!

"You never know what goes on behind closed doors"
Wow! I was gripped by this book and devoured it within 24hours. It's a great thriller filled with clues and red herrings that keep you guessing right up to the end. I liked the way the story flowed and I found myself racing through it to find out what had happened. I don't want to say too much as it would spoil it for others, but I would definitely recommend reading this.

Three woman standing over a man’s body waiting for the police to come but what are they going to tell them? What a way to start a book! I was intrigued straight away what had happened to lead them to this moment, the second chapter takes you back to two months earlier and you slowly learn about the women and their past.
Vivenne had been the main witness to her pregnant sister Ruby’s death when she was eight years old and helped to send Jack to prison for thirty years with the support of her mum Stella. Now she is a woman with a teenage daughter trying desperately to find some happiness in her life while dealing with the nightmares that day has left her with. She can’t help but feel a sense of dread that her evidence as a child might not of been the whole truth, she is soon forced to find out who killed Ruby?

The opening scene of this book is unusual and grabs the attention. You are not sure who you’re rooting for to start with or if you’re meant to like any of the characters.

I am a huge thriller fan and I can often see what’s coming but this one kept me guessing and I didn’t pick up on things until they were pointed out!

Book is nicely written if slightly cheesy in parts!

This book made me want to go back to the start and see if there were clues that I missed first time around. I was thoroughly duped by the author and not only once. I was pretty well gripped from the start and kept guessing until the end. What more can you ask of a thriller?

Vivienne never gets over finding her sister Ruby and her unborn child dead. She was only eight and is found cowering in a cupboard .
Her testimony catches the killer but years later she is forced to reconsider - was it him? Her daughter is kidnapped and she is convinced it is the newly released killer but is it or is it someone who knows the truth?
This will keep you guessing to the end. It twists and turns at a fast pace until you are not sure of anything. Brilliant!!

In an intriguing opening scene, we see a man dead on the floor. The three people standing around are forming the story they will tell the police. From their point of view, their actions are justified. After all, he murdered Ruby! We then go back in time a couple of months and witness the events that led up to that fateful day. During this narrative we also see events from the characters' pasts which enrich the story being told. The story of Vivienne, a successful cafe owner, named for her dead sister Ruby, killed by her boyfriend decades ago when Viv was a child. The boyfriend having been convicted, mostly on Viv's own evidence. But he has always protested his innocence and when strange things start happening to Viv, she starts to doubt herself. As the stakes get higher and her whole world is threatened, can she leave her comfort zone and get to the truth once and for all?
It's hard to say much more specific about this book as the author hasn't really given anything away in the blurb. What I can say however is that this book was a very refreshing return to everything I love about the genre. The red herrings and sleights of hand were executed with aplomb. Fingers pointing at several characters along the way, slowly being whittled down until the truth came out. And boy, wow, I really didn't see that coming. Nope. Not even an inkling of a suspicion. Sucker punched me for sure. Left me reeling, gobsmacked. Well done that author!
Yes, OK, if I have to admit it, and I do for my own reputation, there were a few things that maybe skirted credibility a tad along the way but, when taken as a whole, they were relatively insignificant and didn't jar or distract, so I was happy to accept and move on.
Characterisation was great - so many well drawn people for me to get my investigative teeth into. As with most books of the genre, the author kept me on my toes with my feelings for them all along the way. The execution of the finger pointing so well done that I never felt cheated as I have with some books. It never felt like I was being duped.
Pacing was perfect and, with no superfluous padding, the story got on with itself very well. Description added to rather than distracting from the narrative.
All in all, a cracking read that I thoroughly enjoyed and which left me wholly satisfied at its conclusion. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
