This edition holds a lot of new and old information for anyone involved in, or researching, the history of the gay rights movement. While it's in black and white, which may not appeal to some, it is a great reminder of the history of Stonewall and the overall movement. While it only features one photo of Martha and focuses more on the famous faces involved, it is a neat time capsule. It's certainly not one of the best overall photographic books about the movement, there are more books with more photos, etc., but for someone living today who might not know the history, it is certainly a good resource. There is definitely a distinct story being told about how it all looks, and the beginnings of ideas and causes that we might only think got their traction a few years ago. It also focuses heavily on the white male members of the community who were more visible by virtue of privilege, so it lacks a bit in the regard of seeing the whole movement, since usually women and POC are doing a ton of underappreciated and often, overlooked, work towards the goal. Give it a look.

This is a reissue from the early 90's of an amazing book of photographs post-Stonewall NYC. I'm giving this a 4 instead of a 5, because the book should say, 1969 - 1994. Most people would assume as we approach the 50th anniversary of Stonewall in 2019, a new book would encompass the entire 50 years of gay and lesbian (LGBT) civil rights. Definitely worth a read and/or purchase. History is so important for everyone. The young people of today can avoid a lot if they study the past. Older people can wax nostalgically. Allies can marvel at their parents and grandparents generations. And everyone can be inspired.

3* Not quite sure what I expected, but I had hoped for more information other than simply images.

This isn't dissing the author/publisher, but I expected text and pictures. I got a lot of the latter and too little of the former to allow me to fully appreciate the Stonewall riots. And, images are small and with a lot of characters whose names I didn't recognise. Maybe I'd have appreciated this more had the subjects been more prominent, and more info about them given.

ARC courtesy of OR books and NetaGalley, for my reading pleasure.
