I didnt complete this book bevause the child abuse was far too descriptive. Why would I want to relive the sexual abuse a child of seven has to endure? I really didnt see the need for that to be included in the story. It is a pity because the writing was good and the characters were engaging but with the abuse? Not for me.

I liked the story, but due to the writing style and some stylistic choices I wasn't able to really connect with the story or characters.

This was not an easy book to read, but I'm glad I did... Also, I'm not a "judge a book by its cover" kind of reader, but every once in a while (and not often enough) a cover captures a character perfectly. This one comes so close to how I pictured Matt in Scarred that it's scary...

Both Matt & Vedie were broken. They both ended up on Placida Island to escape and hide. Matt was hiding from his past and Vedie was trying to find a place to be himself and feel safe while doing it.

Watching Matt keep his distance from Vedie and lie to himself about his feelings for him was painful. Watching Vedie try to be what Matt needed to be and knowing it would never be enough was even more painful. They loved each other, they needed each other, but there was too much baggage between them... My heart broke for them throughout most of Scarred.

There's hope though and it takes them almost losing each other to find it, but eventually they do... and a lot more than they expected.

Very emotional book, two lost souls that became one. Matt was kidnapped and abuse as a child and Vedie was physically abuse because of sexuality by his family. Both mcs just needed someone to love them as they are. There were some intense moments, but overall the book was sweet, had some funny moments that you smiling, and loved the interaction between Vedie and Matthew's mother and father.

The book had my attention from start to finish. I have read several of the author's books and I have truly enjoyed all of them.

Wow that was just brutal. Every time we read another part of Matt’s journal about what happened to him I would start crying, I just could not. His parents, god I hated them so much! Verdie’s family I hated them. What stopped this from being a 5 star read is that we really didn’t get on page closure with their family. And after all this time, Vedie decides to out of the blue send his mom money and opening him up to be found. That was just dumb. But I loved these two broken men . In the end, there was no magical cure. They both are going to be dealing with the fallout for the rest of their lives. I loved Vedie’s snarkyness and laughed out loud more then once. These are two very broken men who find healing and acceptance of who they are, from each other..

This was alright for me. It was well written, but in a lot of ways it felt unresolved in terms of Vedie’s attackers and Matt’s relationship with his parents. The characters were interesting but the relationship between Vedie and Matt seemed somewhat underdeveloped for me. I don’t know. Something was missing for me I guess.
