A republication of the second book in this series. Though I did not read the first one I was able to get caught up with the characters and the storyline right away. Aurora Morelli a detective for the Las Vegas police department has a new partner, Kai Lawson a transfer from LAPD. He though reminders her of Bruce Willis but with hair. They are both after a rapist and each has their own issues with the person besides wanting him off the streets.
Aurora has been shot and Rondo the suspect has gotten away. She was shot by her new partner and just the opening scene sets you up for what will be a fast and entertaining ride between these two and her former partner. You also throw in Cory friends with Kai and the husband to her former partner and now Lt. with the banter between Aurora and Kai and along with a few twists and turns leaves you with a very good book and very much worth the read. Liked everything about it.

There's not much to like about this "romantic suspense" novel. The plot is a mash-up of overblown and overused television cop shows, that is neither logical nor compelling. Half the time you know exactly what is coming next because it's been done a million times to fill television air time between commercials, the other half something inexplicable happens. Good plots surprise you with things that are logical in retrospect.

The writing style is wooden third person. Sentences are simple, almost sing-song. Dialog is unrealistic and mostly delivered to inform the reader, not to other characters. The author is never content to let us figure out the characters from their words and actions, she has to tell us what they're thinking and why they do what they do (which is seldom logical even with explanation).

The book reads like a sloppy first draft with spelling, grammar and usage errors, and scenes that appear to have been rewritten partway through without correcting the beginnings. It doesn't help that it spends far too much time recapping the previous book in the series and advertising the next book. The plot doesn't move so much as lurch forward in between tedious accounts of the past and what everyone feels. Characters do not develop or flesh out, they are pawns for the author to push around. None of the scenes seem like places or occasions the author has observed, you get the feeling she's thinking of television shows she's seen.

The only thing I can say in favor of this book is a lot of other reviewers loved it. So clearly it has something that I missed. I have no idea what.

So I downloaded the Vegas series from amazon after realizing this book has been out for a while now. I’m so glad I did, it helped put extra context around who Debbie is and the relationship between her and Aurora and the other cops. The partnership between Kai and Aurora was a slow development but it was good nonetheless. The story seems to take a while to apprehend the Rhondo character and as with anything you want to see this bad guy off the streets as quick as possible. The baby situation sure did make things interesting and intense. The ending makes me want to read the next book because I need to know what happens.

Smart, tough and sassy Las Vegas detective Aurora Morelli and her new partner hunky former LA detective Kai Lawson are searching for a serial rapist that attacked Kai’s sister and Aurora’s former partner. This is a high energy story that will keep you flipping pages. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Kai and Aurora and look forward to their further adventures.

2 1\2 stars
The story is descent but readers will become very distracted at the author writing style and lack of editing.

At one point as a reader I started to wonder if it was apart of the characters way of speaking but soon found it was all over the book and not just that characters.

The story is a short read but lack polish.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of Mimi Barbour Roll The Dice.

Engaging romantic suspense. A serial rapist has committed his crimes within the police world. He will be hunted down with personal revenge in mind. The location of the story doesn't matter in this book. Lots of interesting back stories emerged along the way to the end. I will read the next one in this series.
