Fast paced , contemporary thriller which kept me gripped to the last sentence. Dealing with a manufactured virus used as an instrument of terror, an independent patriot army waging war on anyone who isn't white, male and conformist; racism, sexism; this book has very uncomfortable overtones especially as we battle through the present covid outbreak and have seen a resurgence of anti Semitism, white supremacist movements and black lives matter demonstrations etc. It's a very fast paced thriller and as we expect from Karin Slaughter, intricate storylines, beautifully drawn characters and twists at every turn. I don't normally cry reading thrillers but there were passages that had me reaching for the tissues. I can highly recommend this book but be prepared to be mentally and emotionally challenged!

Another great thriller from Karin Slaughter revolving round white supremacists and domestic terrorists.
You'll practically hold your breath while you read this, it's that exciting! It's a cliche to say she's done it again, but Karin Slaughter really has!

A great book by a great writer.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC without obligation.

Karin Slaughter has such a true gift for writing raw thrillers that no matter how dark and foreboding, you are completely immersed in her nail-biting reads!

Until I started reading The Last Widow I didn’t have a clue that it was number nine in a series based around Will Trent. So I would guess each book could be read as a stand-alone, although maybe background and reading previous books in the series would help.

I’ve only read one other Karin Slaughter book, which I really really enjoyed so was excited to get stuck into The Last Widow. Now this could be a positive or a negative, but it felt like it was written by an entirely different author. Parts I loved, other chapters seemed to be on the repetitive side and drag on, particularly the first few chapters which were hard work to get through due to the repetitiveness.

I did really enjoy the plot and how it appears to interconnect, along with the building of intrigue and suspense. Filled with action, humour and even some romance it has all the necessary elements for a great crime thriller. It was not at all what I was expecting. Just persevere through the first few chapters and you’re in for a treat.

With thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction for the opportunity to read this ARC, in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Karin Slaughter is, for me, one of the finest writers of crime thrillers out there today. I've been a huge fan of her Grant County and Will Trent series for years and was very happy when she joined the 2 together.

The system in The Last Widow of viewing the same scenes separately through the eyes of the 2 main characters might, for some, feel repetitive and only slow down the action, worked perfectly for me. I would have felt cheated had it been done any other way.

Highly recommended.

Normally love Karin slaughter however the story from 2 perspectives I found slightly repetitive which resulted in me being distracted - not her best.

One of my favourite reads this year!

The story starts with us meeting Michelle Spivey, a epidemiologist being abducted by a man.

Then we meet Sara Linton, a doctor and medical examiner and her boyfriend Will Trent, a cop.

There's a bombing at their local hospital and as they go to help, Sara is taken by the same group of men that took Michelle.

Will and the team do all they can to undercover the truth of this group, and found out why they took Michelle in the first place.

This is a really good book, and I really enjoyed reading it.

Good storyline and good characters.

I love the Will Trent/Sara Linton series, but every time I open up a new one I panic a little, in case I'm disapppointed . But WOW! The Last Widow is explosively addictive and I flew through it at a rate of knots. In fact I think the pages just turned themselves.
The relationship between Will and sara is sharper, more poignant and infinately more comppulsive than before - a real marked development here which was sooooo satisfying.
When Sara is snatched by an extrmeist right wing group who have a complex and deadly agenda that will result in many deaths, she needs all of her ingenuity to survive. Meanwhile, Will's worst nightmare has become a reality and despite serious injury, he is determined to bring Sara home.
Fast paced, nuanced and threatening, The Last Widow is shocking in parts, unfortunately very believable and the truth this story speaks is particularly poignant in the current climate.
An easy 5* from me

This is the first book I've read by this author and I absolutely loved it! I found it to be really fast paced and had me literally on the edge of my seat! I was halfway through before I realised there were more books before it, it didn't make a difference I still picked the story up although I will definitely be going back and reading the others. Really good!

So sorry, I bought this book and then forgot to review it. The storyline gripped me. Liked the characters and would definitely read more from this writer.

Overall though, a great read.

Medical examiner Sara Linton is enjoying Sunday dinner with her family when two explosions occur in a nearby neighborhood. Sara knows her medical expertise will be needed on the scene, so she and Will Trent, the FBI agent she’s been involved with for several years, hurry to the scene. As soon as they arrive, Sara begins attempting to treat a man who appears to be unconscious, but before anyone can stop it, she is abducted. Will eventually convinces his boss to let him go undercover, posing as a potential group member. He hopes to bring Sara out alive, but danger awaits him at every turn.

There is a lot of build-up to Will’s eventual infiltration of the terrorist group, but the undercover mission itself doesn’t start until about three-quarters of the way into the book. I wanted to see less of the preparation and more of the actual mission. It’s not the strongest book in the series, but it also contains some nuggets of information that seem to be important for future installments,

Another cant put down book by Karin Slaughter - kidnapping, bombing, mass murder - just another day at the office for the GBI!! it’s one of those - I’ll just read another chapter books that you find yourself reading until you can’t keep your eyes open anymore.

Well, this was my first novel by Ms. Slaughter. Will there be another? I believe so, though this is not the type of story I normally go for. I found it well written, as my lady wife had told me it would be, with believable characters, and plot. Both so very important to any story. There weresome things in it that I was told by said wife, that referenced previous stories, though this did not spoil my enjoyment of the book.

My thanks to Netgalley and the Publishers, HarperCollins for allowing me to read.

The Last Widow reunites avid readers of Karin Slaughter's books with some much-loved characters and introduces them to new readers..
Like all of Karin's books, Last Widow can be read as a standalone novel or as part of an ongoing series with certain much-loved characters.

The novel is well-paced, gripping and full of twist and turns that you expect from Karin's books. A brilliant read for fans and new readers of the author.

The Last Widow by Karin Slaughter
Rating 4.5/5
I read The Last Widow as a stand alone novel but on the basis of how good the book is, I’d recommend the series.
Would have rated a 5/5 but just lost the flow a little for me. However, it was jam packed full of action and angst, strong characters, creepy characters, great plot and many twists it will keep you entertained throughout.
Thank you to Karin Slaughter, HarperCollins and NetGalley. I have given a totally unbiased and honest review.

I have heard so much about this author so I was so excited to read an ARC from netgalley.
I couldn't get into this, I know it was from a series, so I think I would have benefitted from reading the earlier novels. I seem to struggle with characters who are already well established. The opening scene was fantastic but then the story about the bank robbery was so unrelated and it didnt draw me in enough to find the connection.

I requested this book based on the description, although this genre isn’t usually up my street.

I’m so glad I did.

The storyline has gripped me throughout, making me feel anxious about the ending all the way. While there was a lot of medical and police talk, this wasn’t detrimental to my understanding of the narrative (although partially aided by my binging of Criminal Minds and NCIS). My only niggles were a) repetitive metaphors and b) (SPOILER) Grace and Joy, who I wanted to get out of there. I also wish there had been a follow-up for Ashley and her other mother.

Overall though, a fantastic read. Thanks Netgalley and Harper!
