Oh my GOSH! I could not put this book down! This is the first time I have ever read a Karin Slaughter book and I was not disappointed! I loved the fast pace of this book and the story line. All I wanted to know was what was in that greenhouse ha ha! I am now going to check out the authors other books as I am now a firm fan! Thank you so much for the opportunity to review this book.

* BE WARNED * You will not be able to put this latest installment of the Will Trent series down!

Wow, wow and wow again. I honestly think this is one of my favourites in this series so far, even though I've said the same in all the previous #8 books.

I adore Will and have loved reading how his character grows over the series, his relationships with his boss Amanda, his partner Faith and more recently with his girlfriend Sara.

#9 is like no other, it shows the rise in white supremacists, ugly hate filled crime and the battle to take them down. Also be aware it also touches on pedophilia at times!

This is a real faced paced, heart in your throught plot with action galore but at the same time Karin masterfully weaves in such vulnerability and feeling you cant help but keep on reading until BAM it's all over.

The biggest thank you to netgalley and the publishers for the ARC, I'm blown away.

I didn't enjoy this as much as I did with previous Karin Slaughter titles and I have loved her previous books. I found it a little difficult to get into and was quite slow going at the start, and I also didn't really engage with any of the characters in the same way that I have before so didn't feel as invested as I have done with her books previously.

Thank you Netgalley and publisher for this advanced copy.

Karin in back. I did not enjoy her last standalone book, but with this one she is back with me and I'm happy.
I was a little apprehensive about this book but thoroughly enjoyed it. If I had to make one criticism sometimes there is a little to much detail on the subject matter - science and right wing associations.

This was another great read from Karen and quite a disturbing book which keeps you guessing until the end.

Michelle Spivey, a scientist from the Center for Disease Control, is kidnapped without a trace. A month later, two bombs go off in Atlanta. Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and medical examiner Dr Sara Linton rush to investigate a car that's crashed in the commotion, only for Sara to get kidnapped too.

It doesn't take long for it to transpire that the same people who have Michelle have Sara. They need a doctor and so there's no way to Sara to escape. But now she's stuck in the middle of a conspiracy aimed at killing thousands of people.

And Will, the man who loves her, will do everything he in his power to save her, even going undercover among extreme nationalists and risking his own life too.

This is a taut thriller on a fascinating topic (the dangers of American extremists) and once you've bought into the story you will turn pages all night to get to the end of it. I was a little frustrated at the beginning where we'd have a scene with Sara, then a very similar scene with Will covering essentially the same ground. I didn't feel like we needed two points-of-view on the same thing. But that doesn't last long and you're soon thrown headfirst into the story, which has plenty of medical drama, FBI-style investigations, undercover tenson and yes, some romance too.

After a scientist is kidnapped, an explosion a month later sees Sara also taken by the same group and Will is kicking himself for letting it happen and goes undercover to find her. Will, Amanda, Faith and the FBI don’t have long to prevent a massacre. I love the rapport between the characters in the Trent series. I like the way the story in The Last Widow gives you different perspectives from main characters, the narrative is fluid, and it never lets up. Nail biting and thought provoking prose. I can’t find any faults in this Karin Slaughter book, or any other books by this author tbh, they just get better and better, and this is no exception.
I would definitely recommend this book

Really enjoyed this book. I felt it was a bit different and kept me captivated and engrossed throughout. Recommend as a read. Another good book by Karin Slaughter!

This is book #9 in the Will Trent series but can easily be read as a stand-alone.

Told From the point of view of three main characters, Will, his girlfriend Sara and Faith. It gives a different perspective of the same events at times, so may feel a little repetitive but I enjoyed seeing how things seemed to the different parties,.

Will and Sara are just having a relaxing day with family, when explosions break the calm and so they rush to offer their help, but on they way they are involved in a car accident…..but all is not as it seems.

Will is hurt and Sara is taken, they need a medic!...in the vehicle is a woman, she’s terrified and clearly in a state….she’s Michelle Spivey who had been kidnapped a while ago...just who are these men?

Brilliant writing by Karin Slaughter and This really touches a nerve, with the current climate the thought of an abhorrent white supremacist plot to cause such horrific disruption and terror doesn’t seem that far fetched and that’s what makes this so scary.

I would like to thank the Publishers, the author and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book for free and this is my honest and unbiased review

What another great book from Karin Slaughter! I’ve read previous books from this author and really enjoyed them. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this was just as good as those. I enjoyed the story and the characters were very well written.

I was so excited to read this latest instalment in the Will Trent series. Ms Slaughter has released a couple of (brilliant) stand alone novels since the previous book so I was well and truly ready for this. True to form she did not disappoint! This is an absolute cracker of a novel and as always with her books, not for the faint hearted!

In The Last Widow Will finds a normal afternoon with his partner and her family turning into a nightmare beyond belief. With bombings and domestic terrorism in the mix, his world descends into complete terror. I don’t want to give anything away as this is just such a great story and also, the mentioning of some characters could spoil things for anyone yet to read this series. On that subject, I highly recommend you read Slaughter’s books in order; both the Grant County and Will Trent books should be read in order as, in time, they converge. If you haven’t started then you must! She is such a talented writer giving us characters you will totally buy into and plots that are jaw dropping to read.

The Last Widow will grab you from the start and keep you almost breathless throughout. Days after finishing it it is still on my mind. It is a hard hitting piece of utterly compelling reading. Perfect to read on holiday or any other time to be honest! If you enjoy thrillers then it’s hard to find better than this lady’s work - I urge you to give her a go if you’ve not already. And if you are about to embark on reading this series and the Grant County series I envy you! You’ve a truly thrilling ride ahead of you.

My thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of #TheLastWidow in exchange for an honest review.

Brilliant! A quick paced thriller with an interesting plot and well described characters. I believe there are other books in the series with Will and Sara but this is the first time they have come together in one of Slaughter's novels, he an agent for the GBI and her a paediatrician. Now together they are driven by saving/helping others, which starts by getting them into a bit of trouble. There is a bit of violence and sometimes the characters do things you wish they wouldn't but written in a way we can understand their motivations. There are many dramatic scenes leading to the big finale which keeps you turning the pages.

A fascinating story about kidnapping, terrorism and biological threats, as doctor Sara Linton finds herself the captive of shady group IPA, as boyfriend Will Trent, an agent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, working undercover to find her, and his partner Faith Mitchell trying to solve the case with the FBI before it’s too late.

A definite page-turner, I particularly enjoyed the fact that the focus character of each chapter varies between Sara, Will and Faith, so at times the same scene is played out from two (and sometimes three) different perspectives. In this way, the thoughts and feelings of the characters can be built upon and incorporated into the plot without detracting from the main story.

A book I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend to all thrill-seekers.

I really enjoy the books of Karin Slaughter, so had been eagerly awaiting the latest Will Trent/Sara Linton book. I was not disappointed.

The Last Widow is number nine in the Georgia Bureau Investigator Will Trent series and whilst it can be read as a standalone, you would better appreciate the characters and their subplots by reading the back catalogue.

The book opens with the same scenes replayed in full from different characters’ viewpoints which provided insight and backstory useful later on. The premise of the story is a white supremacist terror plot involving biological warfare and makes an interesting change from the usual motives of greed and corruption; it is a very well written and researched story. It also highlights how people will twist religion to suit and justify their crimes. The attention to descriptive detail was second to none.

At times, I felt the book was a little preachy about the benefits of vaccinations, which I’m sure won’t be appreciated by all. However, it certainly provided detailed descriptions of how terrible certain illnesses are, and how easily preventable the spread of such devastation could be.

Another fantastic novel from the Queen of Crime.

Part 1 - A scientist and her daughter are walking to their car after a shopping trip. A van pulls up and the mother screams for her daughter to run. But the people in the van aren't interested in the kid. It's her they've come after. She's shoveled into the back of the van and vanishes.

Part 2 - One month later. On a scorching afternoon in Atlanta, GA, an explosion hits one of the busiest neighborhoods. GBI Investigator Will Trent and his partner Sara Linton (a medical examiner) rush to the scene and become heavily caught up with the perpetrators. Sara is kidnapped.

This book was action-packed from start to finish. Saying that, one thing I love above Karin Slaughter novels are the slow pace - characters are introduced with plenty of context, settings are distinctly described, and even the most mundane events are accounted for. This provides so much for the reader and gives that steady lull in between the action. It leaves the reader feeling unstable and always waiting for that next slice of action. It enables strong connections with characters and has us rooting for the good guys. There is always a shock factor when something bad happens - Slaughter describes gory scenes in detail which adds to the realism of her novels. This one in particular hit a nerve with me as it could quite easily represent real life.

The research that went into this book was highly evident - my only criticism is that there was just too much police/government/medical jargon in there for me.

This book is part of a series involving the main characters Sara and Will, though it was my first time being introduced to the characters. I did feel like I was missing some important context but it was still fine to read as a standalone.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

She’s done it again. Karin Slaughter has pull it out of the bag again, she has written a book that kept me on my toes and got me hooked from the very first page.
Strong story and strong well written characters.
A must read. Highly recommended
Thank you so much to both NetGalley and HarperCollins for my eARC of this book in exchange for my honest unbiased review

This is apparently the ninth in the "Will Trent" series. I haven't previously read anything by Karin Slaughter, so was unfamiliar with the characters. It didn't matter - the book works just fine as a standalone read.

On the whole a compelling and enjoyable read (despite some upsetting sections). I found some aspects of the plot a little far-fetched, but hey - it's a novel!

A fast-paced page turner - perfect holiday reading!

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC.

This is the ninth book in the series featuring Special Agent Will Trent and Medical Examiner Dr Sarah Linton. The book opens with a woman scientist, Michelle Spivey, being kidnapped and after a major investigation there still is no trace of her. Four weeks later Sarah and Will stop to investigate an accident and Sarah is kidnapped by a terrorist group. She is taken to a white supremest camp In the woods and finds Michelle is there too. Will was injured when Sarah was kidnapped but he is forced to go underground and put his life in danger to rescue her. The plot centres around a terrorist group IPA, Invisible Patriot Army, who have already killed and injured and who are now planning a massive racial terrorist attack. It is a terrifying and tense story that had me reading long into the night. A highly recommended read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

This book is Karin Slaughter at her best. It’s is thrilling and tense with gory details enough to make you squirm. I must admit I did get a little confused with who was who with the female cops but that’s my only complaint. A truly nasty villain or two for you to hate but with a good balance made by having Sara and Will.

Have not read a K Slaughter book for a while, so the first surprise was her chief of police husband dead, but with all her books they can be read as a standalone. This one Sara has a new love in her life, and he works for the GBI, and the talk of the town is about the abduction of Michelle Spivey and the story starts quite savagely with a bomb blast at a hospital, and of course Sara and Will must play there part and do what was necessary to help with the dead and wounded and then find the reason why anybody would do such a thing, and we have all been there. On their way to the scene, there seems to be a traffic accident so Sara being a doctor does what she deigned to do, but it was all a ruse and she gets herself abducted and Will cannot get to his weapon in time to save her as one man puts a gun to her head.. When she finally gets to the destination she finds its more of a cult and a man called Dash is master but its not a religious group as such but Dash's woman mentions verses and quotes from the Bible, but what is there goal, in all this, Because Sara is a qualified Pediatrician shes is bought there to tend to the sick children and they are very sick, and of all people Michelle is there too and very traumatized Sara does what she can, and while all this is going on Will and the CBI are doing there utmost to not only find and bring to justice for the bomb attack but the reasons behind it. It's a very complex story and well thought out and written, good strong characters and quite sad in parts, really worth the read, and will certainly start reading Slaughter again. I would like the thank HarperCollins for a copy of this novel for an honest review.

So I was going to give this book 3 stars but because I love the author usually, and because it deals with some current issues, I'm going with 4.

I love Karin Slaughter's writing but this felt slower than usual and the plot seemed overly obvious and simple. All of the law enforcement involved (including Sara and Will) took longer than I'd expect to figure out what Dash's agenda, as lead of a terrorist organisation, was. To me it seemed obvious.

I also didn't feel there was enough development of, and between characters, even though there seemed attempts to do so. I.e. between Will and Sara's family.

However, it deals with the rise of hatred and white supremacy which I think is so relevant in the current climate. It is also well written and interesting.

I'll keep reading Karin Slaughter but this one did fall a little short on my expectations.
