I really liked this book. If you like psychological thrillers then you will love this.

A 9 year little girl goes missing on the short walk from her friends to her home. She has diabetes so it’s a race with time to find her. But all isn’t what it seems, both her mum and her dad are hiding something. Will Grace be found in time?

I was thrilled to read this newest K.L. Slater psychological thriller. I'm a huge fan and really enjoy her writing style and the suspense and tension she delivers in each of her novels.

I must say that I am tiring of the "missing child" trope, but this story offers something more than they typical plot line. It is fast paced and sprinkled with hints of something lurking in the past lives of the family. I was easily drawn into Lucie and Blake's search for their daughter, Grace and trying to figure out the who, what, when, why and how. I was on the right track with a some, certainly not all.

There was another twist in the end that really was a surprise. Thank you, karma!

Thanks to Bookouture for my review copy. Book is out on Feb 14, 2019

Finding Grace # NetGally
K. L. Slater

Another great book by K. L. Slater. Finding Grace is one of those books you don’t want to put down. I read it in one sitting because I needed to know what happened to Grace. Her characters are well defined and easy to love or hate. I started out hating Grace’s mother, Luci, and did not think that would change. Toward the end of the book, I developed more empathy toward her. The storyline flowed smoothly and answered all the questions you had throughout the book. Once again, a very good British psychological thriller that I think you will love if you like this genre. A solid 4 stars.

Thank you to NetGally and the publisher and author for the opportunity to read an advanced copy read of this novel for an honest review.

I am a huge fan of K L Slater so I was delighted to read an early copy of this book. It was another great read, Lucie and Blake's daughter Grace has gone missing on whilst walking back from her friend's house, a journey that should only take 5 minutes. The first time she has been allowed to walk home herself, surely it can't be a coincidence that someone has taken her?
This book is every parent's worst nightmare, your child has disappeared with no trace.. However, dark secrets from the past always come to light and it seems that someone is hellbent on revenge. I like how the author holds every character up to scrutiny making us question their motives, guilt and innocence, painting them all as suspects at some points. There are perhaps one too many coincidences along the way, but all in all this is a great twisty read which keeps the reader turning the pages.

Big fan of K. L. Slater and have enjoyed each and every single book she has written!

Grace, a 9 year old disappears on a short walk home from her friend's house. As a mother myself, I felt the fear Lucie was going through. Made me hug my 12 year old a little tighter (even though I got a big eye roll). ha

The book alternates between present day and Lucie's past from 16 years prior. We know Lucie is hiding something but we just don't know what. The tension builds and the twists and turns kept me quickly turning the pages. The ending was a little far fetched/implausible for me but overall another great read by this author. I will be looking forward to her next book!

Thank you so much to Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this book!

Lucie and Blake have suddenly found themselves living every parents worst nightmare. The day after their beloved daughter Grace's ninth birthday, they agreed to let her walk home from her best friend Olivia's house. It was only a five minute walk and they had a plan in place so they could observe her along the way. But despite all their careful planning, somewhere between the two houses, Grace completely vanished into thin air.

As the frantic search for Grace begins,we learn that many of the people in the families lives are hiding secrets including Lucie and Blake. Blake's is a present day secret but Lucie has been keeping hers since she ran away from university sixteen years ago. The story is voiced almost entirely by Lucie and flips back and forth between the present and the past. As I frantically turned the pages of this gripping, intense thriller, the author cleverly drew me into a false sense of security. I really thought I had it all worked out and then BLAM, she threw in a twist that took everything that I thought I knew, screwed those thoughts into a tiny ball and chucked them out of the window.

I love a book that plays with my emotions,I want to feel something about the characters and that is definitely what happened whilst I was reading this fast paced thriller. There was characters I liked, disliked, empathised with, changed my mind about and just plain gave me the creeps. Once I started reading this book,I didn't want to put it down,I was 100% hooked in from the first page right through to the breath taking, heart pounding conclusion. This is K.L.Slater at her best, her words flow with ease, drawing the reader into Lucie and Blake's world and living every minute of their nightmare and fear as time passed and there was still no trace of their beloved daughter. Absolutely amazing book, worth far more than five stars and definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year. Very very highly recommended.

A nine year old goes missing on her short, first walk home. Parents and grandparents are devastated as well as neighbors and friends. Complicating the situation is that the child is a diabetic. While the police move in, there are red herrings thrown in and around the investigation. The father appears clueless and the mother is an emotional wreck. But one of them has lied for a very long time - is that lie what this is about? Who can you trust? How long does your past reach back for you?

K.L. Slater is a favorite and always manages to write a thoroughly engaging mystery/thriller.

As always, many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the wonderful opportunity to read an ARC of this latest novel.

First off, I liked the cover very much. This woman whose profile looks like Robin Wright’s with the taglines “two parents in pieces, one is a liar” and “with a breathtaking twist” sold it for me… but it’s also why I downed my rating to 3.5. I felt like I’d been cheated and I think I would have enjoyed the book more if the “breathtaking” twist hadn’t mentioned because I figured it out as soon as it occurred and the father’s secrets fell short.

Overall I liked the story; a nine-year old disappears into thin air as she walks alone from a friend’s house just down the street.
But there are details that I thought weren’t right.

Be aware that what follows contains spoilers.

When Bev, Lucie’s best friend and neighbor from where Grace walked home, comes to Lucie (Grace’s mother) to tell her that she’s received an anonymous letter and a photograph from Lucie’s traumatic past, Lucie readily decides to ignore it and not link it to her daughter’s disappearance. As a mother, I found it very unlikely that Lucie didn’t talk about the note and photograph to the police and/or her husband. I became annoyed with her and even wondered if she really wanted to get Grace back—come on, it’s been almost 24 hours that your daughter, your diabetic daughter, has disappeared, and a letter suddenly points out to your past, no way can you not let the cops know about it…whatever it is you did 16 years ago.

Also unlikely is the fact that Grace would simply hop in a random car precisely on the day her parents finally agreed she could walk home alone, and she could finally show them it was no big deal because she’s nine now and she’s responsible and she can deal with it easily.

Finally, two details remain unanswered for me. One, why did Grace leave her backpack at Olivia’s? And two, why are the flashbacks told in 3rd-person narrative when the rest is 1st-person? I hoped there’d be a twist there, but no.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity in exchange for my honest review. It was well-written and engaging but I lost sympathy for Lucie after the note to Bev.

I thought this was a pretty good mystery with some interesting twist. Louise is in a frantic search for her daughter Grace after she disappears after walking home from a friend's house. The author did a good job portraying the despair and turmoil both Louise and her husband experience with their daughter's disappearance. It did feel a bit slow in the beginning but once the story picks up it gets better.

Another fabulous book by this Author. A 9 year old girl goes missing walking a short distance home from her friend's house. The characters are hiding all kinds of secrets. The reason behind Grace disappearing, when it is divulged, will shock you from the top of your head to the soles of your feet. Absolutely brilliant writing. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

I have read all of K L Slater’s previous novels and they are brilliant, including this one, “Finding Grace’.

Once again, the plot is devious and intricate. Just when I think I know what is going on, I am taken by surprise.

Lucie and Blake Sullivan are married with a nine-year-old daughter, Grace and a young baby, Oscar. Blake is a local councillor and always on the move, dashing around and everybody knows him. The day after her ninth birthday they agree to let Grace walk home from her friend’s house, which is only a few minutes along the same road. Her friend’s father will watch her half the way and then Blake will see her the remaining distance, as there is a bend in the road. She goes missing.

The police and local community are out looking but Grace has disappeared into thin air. Nobody appears to know anything but Lucie has a secret from her student days, which begins to unfurl. In addition Lucie begins to doubt her husband’s sincerity and finds herself searching his office only to find something incriminating.

A complex, brilliant story and highly recommended. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and KL Slater for the ARC in return for my honest review.
