Publisher’s description: The murderer might be closer than you think…
One morning ten years ago, the town of Twin Rivers changed forever when the body of Tyler Washington was found in the woods. Son of the mayor, star of the high school basketball team – his death struck right at the heart of this tight-knit community.

For Olivia Hall, Tyler’s death heralded the start of her own personal nightmare – her twin brother, Ethan, was arrested for Tyler’s murder. Ten years later, Ethan is still in jail. Olivia is convinced he is innocent, and now, a true crime podcast has taken up his case.

As the podcast digs deeper, secrets, lies and shocking revelations are all uncovered. For the first time, Olivia dares to hope that Ethan may be set free. But if he didn’t kill Tyler, who did? And how far will they go to keep their secrets safe?

************
So I don’t know whether A.M. Taylor’s book is called “Innocent or Guilty? You Decide” or “The Killer You Know” because the NetGalley page and the headers in the galley say the former, but the cover that shows up on my Kindle is the latter. Whatever the title (I have to admit, I prefer “The Killer You Know”), this one is worth picking up.

Told in a “Now/Then” format of alternating chapters, we follow the story of Olivia Hunt and her twin brother Ethan, who she has spent the past 10 years trying to get out of jail where he is serving a sentence for a murder that Olivia is convinced he didn’t commit. The “Now” chapters take us chronologically forward, and the “Then” chapters take us chronologically backward. So we see the “Then” chapters from the conviction back to the murder. It’s an interesting way to see the timeline, and I found it very effective in holding my interest.

I think I suspected almost everyone over the course of the story, including Ethan. As we learn more and more about Tyler’s personality, we realize that everyone had a motive to kill him at some point. The question is just who wanted it the most and why did they want to take down Ethan in the process.

There were some editing issues that were bothersome and a bit of a distraction. At the beginning of the book, everyone’s speech was languorous. That’s not a word you often read once in a book, and this one has it four times in the first 20%. Come up with another adjective. The other thing that really drove me nuts was that the author didn’t seem to like to use the word “sitting.” Instead, there are phrases like “we were sat...” and “Ethan and I are sat...” and “he had been sat...” when it should just be “we were sitting.” I’m hoping these were fixed in the final edit.

What knocked it down to a 4 for me is in the spoiler below.

****SPOILER****
I will say that I briefly suspected the identity of the killer, but the author does a great job of throwing out red herrings. That said, I didn’t like the final chapter because it could have two endings with very different results. Did Ethan tell his lawyer (Olivia’s boss) the truth and get Olivia to confess to him to get himself off by convicting his sister, or is Olivia’s boss going to protect their secret? We don’t really know the answer to that, and I really didn’t like being left hanging.

I loved this book! The plot is what my true crime and podcast loving heart was made for. Reading this book felt like I was pulling bak the curtain on the production of a podcast and I loved it!
The chapters alternated between Now and Then; with the 'then' chapters being shorter and giving you a little glimpse back in time. The alternating kept you guessing, trying to piece together what you just found out from the past with what was happening in the present. There was no way I could have predicted the ending of this book. The last page or two felt like such a cliff hanger and made me want to keep reading!

I enjoyed this book, as it’s slightly different, I haven’t read a storyline where they introduce a true crime podcast. Ethan and Olivia are twins, just before going off to college, something happens that changes both their lives forever. Ethan is arrested and charged with the murder of Tyler Washington, who was one of the most popular boys in school, as well as being the Mayors son.

But did Tyler commit the murder?, he was seen riding his bicycle across a wooded area that Tyler had last been seen in. Olivia and Ethan despite being twins aren’t very close growing up, Olivia is popular and hangs around with the IT crowd, whereas Ethan is more of a loaner with just one friend. They have become closer since Ethan has been in Jail.

The night of the murder there had been a party at one of Olivia’s friends houses, Olivia had gone with her boyfriend Cole. She leaves the party early as she is suffering with stomach cramps. After Ethan was found guilty and sent to prison. Olivia decided to train to be a Lawyer.

Kat Thomas and Ray Mackenzie do a podcast called shadow of a doubt. They decide to look into Ethan’s case for their third podcast series. Although they are not looking to prove whether Ethan is guilty or not, it’s to look at the evidence and to see if there has possibly been a miscarriage of justice. Olivia goes with them to some of the interviews, but can’t be at all of them, as some people feel because Ethan is her brother she may be biased, and they believe Ethan is guilty and don’t want to talk in front of her.

The story is told from two points of view, then and now. So flicking back to things that happened that fateful night, then Olivia not just working with two people on the podcast, but also working on a criminal trial with her boss Karen and colleague Daniel. The trial is that of a young girl Reid who is accused of killing a guy who had been a boyfriend for a short time, but had continued to stalk her after they had split up. But it also turns out that Reid’s sister Spenser knows some things about the night that Tyler was murdered as she had attended the same school as Olivia.

At times the book was a little slow, but it was a case of unravelling things that had happened 10 years earlier. There are so many other suspects it could be as it was obvious the police investigation was flawed. I would recommend this book, it is well crafted.

I loved the idea of this book, something fresh and new to a crime genre with a podcast inclusive but I just didnt gel with it. Without a connection I couldn't get into it at all.

Unfortunately I got 1/3 of the way through and had to give up.

The writing style just wasnt for me, I ended up skimming pages with boredom.

A apologetic 1* from me

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for the ARC.

Wow!! This book was amazing, A very well written novel, filled with twists, physical assault. This was a fast read that kept you turning the pages wanting more, you had to know what was going on. Trying to prove the innocence of someone after 10 years was not going to be easy.
I had never read a book with a podcast, so that was new to me, but it fit the story so well. The murder of Twin Rivers golden boy was a shocker for the small community.
The pace of this book was perfect. I really enjoyed it, thank you Netgalley for allowing me a copy of this book..

At a point in my life when I could listen to podcasts on the job, I devoured them.
My Favorite Murder
Serial
And That's Why We Drink

Anything with true crime, I lived for.

That's why I lived for this book. It integrated a popular podcast into it and it worked so well, it was almost scary. It was captivating honestly. Ugh, I lived for it.

I really liked how well this novel played out from beginning to end and sunk its claws into you and never let go. It is the definition of thriller/suspense from the characters to the plot. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author and seeing where they go with their work.

Thanks very much to Netgalley and the publisher for this copy of my ARC,

A unique story line, investigating a murder with hopes of overturning the conviction of her brother through the eyes, ears and actions of a popular podcast. Very well written, the dialogue reads as if you were really listening to a podcast. The story unfolds in layers of past and present, building clues, questions and tension to keep the story interesting. A M Taylor has written a different kind of mystery/ thriller. It will bevery interesting to see how Innocent or Guilty? is followed.

Wow, wow, wow!!! I am speechless. A.M. Taylor is my new favorite author. This is the first book I read by this author and it was fantastic. I haven’t read a book this good in a long time.

This book was about a brother and sister bond that could never be broken in the end. Olivia now a lawyer is desperate to get her brother out of jail for a murder he did not commit ten years earlier. She uses a famous podcast team to search for the truth on who killed Tyler Washington. In the end she does finally find some justice for herself and her brother.

I want to start off by saying that I love the way the author uses the past and present to tell the story. It really helps the reader to truly understand what happened in the past and to connect it to the present. I absolutely loved this book. I thought all of it worked so well together. The characters and the plot flowed so well. I couldn’t believe all the twists and turns in this book. It was like a roller coaster ride that I never wanted to get off from. As each chapter went on I couldn’t take it, I needed more and more. I devoured each page like it was the last. Oh boy the ending was a shock as well. I couldn’t believe who really did it and why. There were some clues throughout but I still couldn’t believe it. What a great ending to a great book.

Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Ten years ago, the small town of Twin Rivers was rocked by the murder of Tyler Washington, star of the basketball team and the son of the Mayor. Ethan Hall was found guilty of his murder. Olivia Hall, Ethan's twin sister, has never believed that he was guilty and is determined to proved his innocence. She contacts a true crime podcast in hopes that she can bring attention and get him exonerated. Or at the very least, a re-trial.

I really enjoyed the concept of this book. As a fan of true crime podcasts, I was drawn to this book immediately. Total page turner and perfect crime thriller.

Tyler Washington’s body is found in the woods the morning after he doesn’t return home following an end of summer party with his high school friends. Ethan Hall is convicted of his murder and has spent the last ten years in prison. His twin sister Olivia has always believed in his innocence and has spent those ten years trying to get his conviction overturned.

The story is told from the perspectives of both the past and the present. The present portion is told through the investigation into the murder by Olivia and the hosts of a true crime podcast. The past is told through a series of flashbacks of Olivia’s memories.

This story is well written and keeps you turning pages as more and more secrets are revealed. Who really killed Tyler Washington? Will Ethan Hall finally get the justice he was denied?

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Good book. It will keep you guessing until the very end. It reminded me of a movie. A man charged and convicted of murder, persistently claiming his innocence while his twin tries to prove same.

Page turner!
Ethan Hall was convicted of killing a fellow student the summer of senior year. He has been in prison for ten years, claiming his innocence all along. His twin sister, Olivia, has spent those ten years fighting for his release, even going as far as going to law school. An opportunity arises for Ethan's case to be reviewed on a Crime Podcast, with the hope of getting a retrial to prove Ethan is innocent. When people start talking, lies are uncovered, people's true characters revealed, and the reader is left guessing who could have possibly killed Tyler. This was a fantastic thriller, filled with so many twists and turns that I couldn't put it down, right up until the last page.

This book was really good with a lot of twists and turns and an ending that I didn't see coming. Plus, the podcast storyline is interesting and of the moment.

The characters seem true to life, particularly in the way they acted in high school and the way the whole town turned on Ethan and Olivia and their family. Only the drug-related story involving the mayor seemed a little bit far-fetched.

Ten years ago Tyler Washington, the son of the Mayor, was found dead in the woods. Ethan Hall was arrested because of witness statements, even though there was no forensic evidence to support his arrest. Ethans twin sister Olivia was always convinced of his innocence, so much so that she studied law and became a lawyer to try and right this wrong. She is approached by producers of a podcast who want to make a podcast about Ethans story. This opens up a can of worms and stirs up old memories. What happened that night? Is Ethan guilty and, if not, who killed Tyler?
I enjoyed this story. It has many twists and turns and it gives a great insight into the power of social media and also the power of persuasion.

Everyone in the town of Twin Rivers knows who is responsible for Tyler Washington’s death, or do they. Years after being convicted for Tyler’s death, a “serial” like podcast begins to investigate the crime to determine if Ethan Hall was wrongfully convicted. Helping the podcast hosts with the investigation is Olivia, Ethan’s twin sister, whose return to Twin Rivers and starts upsetting ,any of her old friends and the family of Tyler. Was justice served ten years ago or is the killer walking free?

Innocent or Guilty? is a compelling story that kept me engaged and guessing from the very first page. The characters are well developed and layered, creating a hard to put down story set against the backdrop of a true crime podcast.

Innocent or Guilty by A.M. Taylor sure kept me guessing. I think this book is going to be very popular when it comes out. True crime and podcasts are so popular right now and the author brings these elements to the story, its a winning combination!

The murderer might be closer than you think…One morning ten years ago, the town of Twin Rivers changed forever when the body of Tyler Washington was found in the woods. Son of the mayor, star of the high school basketball team – his death struck right at the heart of this tight-knit community.

I loved the podcast idea because I am hooked on listening to podcasts right now! I like to try to figure out how the story is going to play out, especially when its a murder mystery. If you are a fan of podcasts like My Favorite Murder, Crimelines, Sword & Scale then you will want to get your hands on this novel! Intriguing, well-written and a book you will want to read this fall.

Due out on September 28.

This was a very page turner where I sat on the edge of my seat. It was very well written and left you wondering from the beginning to the end. The twisted and turn story was about some who may or may not be charged for the crime that has been put on him. It was intriguing and interesting to where I reccomend this book to others.
