A beautifully illustrated story about the importance of friendship. Squirrel had always won first place in the Golden Acorn Hunt but this year the hunt was going to be a team competition. Will her desire to win make her lose site of what's important? Perfect for 3-6 year olds, especially if they have a competitive streak!

Thank you to Katy Hudson, Capstone and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received an electronic ARC from Capstone through NetGalley.
A story about working as a team and placing friendship above winning. The illustrations are realistic and support the text. The story is easy to follow. Would make a terrific read aloud.
Squirrel is the fastest animal and has won many trophies for speed. The prized one is The Golden Acorn. She's won it for the last eight years. The rules changed this year and animals have to work as a team to win. She's frustrated as she knows her friends will hold her back. The race begins and she takes off. She has to double back several times to help her friends. She races ahead and finds the prize but can't move it on her own. Squirrel realizes that friends are more important than any prize and she leaves it and returns to help them.
Use to talk about about cooperation and valuing others.

I read the Golden Acorn with our six year old and it was a great conversation starter about teamwork and friendship. Squirrel is the reigning champion of the Golden Acorn contest. Squirrel is highly competitive and is disappointed when she finds out that she needs to work as a team for this year's annual contest.

During the event Squirrel at first feels slowed down by her teammates but realizes over the course of the contest that friendship means so much more than a trophy ever could. This is a great and relatable book for 4-6-year-olds that is engaging and also has a meaningful and important message. The illustrations are captivating and beautifully done and they add so much to the storyline.

Thank you to NetGalley and Capstone for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

The stunning illustrations are the highlights of this book.
However, the story, despite its valuable message, did not impress me much. Especially the second part felt a bit rushed and not emotionally-engaging enough for a child.

Squirrel is very competitive and has won the acorn race several years in a row. This year won't be any different and she is all ready for the big race when they announce that it is a team event. Squirrel doesn't want a team they will only;y slow her down but she must team with them. Squirrel often leaves her team to fend for themselves but in the end, she remembers that her friends are the best prize of all.

Gorgeously illustrated with rich and warm colors and the feelings of fall. THE GOLDEN ACORN is a story about Squirrel and her friends: Rabbit, Turtle, Beaver, & Bird. Squirrel is the faster animal in the forest. And in being so, ever year Squirrel enters and wins The Acorn Hunt.T his year, however, if she wants to compete, she must do so as a team. Something she is not used to doing.

THE GOLDEN ACORN is a cute and fun story that teaches kids the most important things isn't winner or how many trophies you have. One of the most important things are your friends. Be there for each other, help each other out.

Its a lovely, cute story, to show that winning isn't everything in this wonderful picture book about friendship and teamwork.

I read a copy of this picture book from Capstone via NetGalley. A fun, quick read about the importance of friendship and teamwork that is good for ages 3-6. The illustrations are dazzling and immersive with adorable animals that zoom across the pages with lots of energy. While there is nothing new or miraculous in the storyline, this is just an easy way for little ones to understand the importance of not being selfish. Cuteness level is high.

This is a darling picture book with beautiful illustrations that teaches the power of friendship. Squirrel is all set to win the Golden Acorn race again this year, but a new rule requires her to have a team. Her friends volunteer to help her but they struggle with the physical challenge. Squirrel learns that her friends bring her more happiness that any trophy could. I teach older students so I wouldn't pick this for my classroom, but I would recommend this to younger readers and teachers of younger readers.

Thank you to Capstone and Netgalley for making this book available to read so I could provide an honest review.

As soon as I saw Katy Hudson had released a new book I jumped at the chance to read it. My daughter and I love "The Long Winter's Nap" and I couldn't wait to show her this new adventure!

Squirrel is consistently the champion of the Golden Acorn contest and has the trophies to prove it. This year there is a twist! Squirrel must be part of a team in order to win. What ensues is a delightful story about the dismay Squirrel feels at being slowed down by her team, the many mishaps the team encounter during the race and the eventual realization of how much more important friendship and teamwork is over winning by yourself.

Ms. Hudson's illustrations shine bright and add that extra component to make this book an easy recommendation for any kid! My parents could have probably read this to me as a child because I was obsessed with winning and they could have used the lessons to teach me that winning isn't always everything!

Please note this is not yet published on Goodreads because the title is not in their system. Once it is, I will go back and post this review!
