I'd like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I received advance copies of the first two books in this series and couldn't put them down and eagerly anticipate the author's next book, with that being said, I enjoyed this one just as much and now can't wait to see what will happen in book 4.

Another great read by Carol Wyer. THE DARE starts out with a chilling first chapter and quickly segues into a mother looking for a missing daughter. Natalie Ward is assigned to the case of a killer very much at large; one who could potentially be a threat to her family. There are short chapter points of view which are cleverly woven throughout the plot, adding a chilling dimension to the story.

When a missing girl turns into a homicide, Natalie’s ‘copper sense’ is put to the test. She sifts through evidence and conducts interviews where things aren’t what they seem. I particularly enjoyed the chapter where Natalie first meets Jane. The dialogue is sensitive and well written, especially given the circumstances. There are plenty of suspects to chew over; builders, creepy boyfriends and school friends, not to mention those trying to muddy the waters and perverting the course of justice. When you think things are looking up and David breaks open an expensive bottle of wine in celebration, another young girl goes missing.

Natalie pulls more suspects who continue to withhold nuggets of information. But when she stumbles across a twisted website—a dare for people to go missing for a few days—it begins to look like a trap. Wyer tackles the danger of social media head on and makes no bones about the twisted dangers that lurk within. The washing machine chapter was so terrifying—a disturbing image of humiliation and the survival of the fittest—I had to have a stiff walk in the snow after reading it. I’m not kidding when I say this really is one of those books you can’t put down. You can’t. And yes, it did have me leaving the lights on at night!

Many thanks to the publisher, Bookouture, and Netgalley for this advanced copy for an honest review. Love it!

This is book three of the compulsive police procedural thriller featuring DI Natalie Ward and it’s a hell of a great read. We have a very nasty serial killer taking young teenage girls and Natalie and her team struggling to make any kind of breakthrough on the case, the only clue seems to a connection with a “dare to disappear” challenge on social media. What follows is a thrilling and page turning read that’s difficult to put down and Carol Wyer succeeds once more in making this a highly addictive and recommended book. The writing and characterisation is as always spot on and I look forward to reading book 4 and hope it won’t be too long till we can catch up with Natalie and the team. 4+ stars and I loved it so don’t miss out on this fabulous series !!
My thanks to NetGalley, Carol Wyer and Bookouture for the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Long but really good book. Thrilling and surprising how it all ties together. Keeps moving and the confusion of seemingly connections that don’t pan out. You can feel the cops frustration

Carol Wyer has written another thriller that will keep you turning the pages and trying to figure out who is taking and murdering girls in town.

Although this is the third book in the Natalie Ward series you can read it as a stand alone.

The book is also current to today and social media. Scary if you are a parent of teenagers. !!

Put the book down last night to get some sleep, a minute passed by and I said who I am kidding, back to the book so I could finish .

Can't wait for the next in the series.

Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the opportunity to read The Dare !!

I was delighted when I saw the third book was out in the Det Natalie Ward series and what a belter! Carol Wyer has a way of weaving a great plot while giving us more about the characters, Natalie has a lot going on at home, is her husband back gambling, unfortunately she has not time to even think about it as the body of a teenage girl is found beside a bin in the park, having been reported missing the day before after not making it home from school. When another girl disappears and her body turns up at a fly tip close to her home, Natalie doesn't know what or who she is chasing, with no clues and no evidence, can she find the suspect before more bodies turn up..... as she delves into the lives of these young girls, one thing becomes clear, they have all looked at the same website which dares people to go missing and stay missing for as long as possible and reach the top of the leaderboard….. sick and twisted idea of fun????

Gripped from the turn of the first page right up to the end, I literally could not put it down, I love this series, it just keeps getting better and better, I know impossible right cos how can you improve on perfection.... an absolute must read in my opinion, is it too early to ask when #4 is out!!! he he he

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

The dare is a good example of police procedural suspense novel. Det. Natalie Ward is trying to solve the mystery of 2 teenage girls who go missing and bodies are found the next day. Did the girls meet someone on social media who lured them to their death? Does this have anything to do with the teenage experiment and social platform Dare where teens disappear for 2-3 days to get their families to notice them? There are a number of characters introduced who could be the suspect and Dt. races through time to stop another killing when suddenly her own daughter disappears. Character and plot well written, a book that is a good fast read.

My first book by Carol Wyer even though I have wanted to read one of her books for a long time. Thank You Bookoutre and Netgalley for providing me a chance to review this brilliant book.

The Dare is a very tense and chilling thriller talking about the dangers and pitfalls of accepting social media challenges. The teenage age is a dicey age where the whole world seems against you and if at all the circumstances at home are not happy and positive they become depressive rude and sullen. It is also an age where parents become enemies and friends become the soul sharing partners in crime.

I loved how the author has addressed this issue and manged to convey the worries and angst that a parent faces during the turbulent years and of course social media doesn't aid the cause. The story starts with a missing Savannah then spirals into a bang in 3 days when 3 teenagers with seemingly no connection and at different classes gets kidnapped and choked to death. Natalie Ward and her team are short staffed and when there's an overload of information to sift through and so many suspects to weed out, time becomes a luxury. Absolute delight to read for fans of thrillers!

Omg this series just gets better. I was hooked from the start and I found myself reading faster and faster as I just had to know what happened. But then again I didn't want the book to finish!

Natalie Ward is a fantastic character and if she was real I'd love to go for a drink with her!

5 stars doesn't seem enough for this thrilling, twist filled, emotional book.

You must read it.

This is the third book in a detective series and I think my favourite of the three. Carol Wyer has the ability to write a really gripping, somewhat disturbing tale that’s you simply can’t put down. As a parent, this book was quite a difficult read but only because it so well written and believable. I love the protagonist, DCI Ward, she is a hard hitting fiesty heroine. I think I may have cheered for her a few times! A really amazing crime thriller. Loved it. Highly recommend xx

5 stars! Wow! I couldn’t wait to start this book and it did not disappoint.

Thirteen year old Savannah Hopkins failed to return home one day after school. Her mother is immediately concerned and begins to try to track her down, catching up with her friends in order to create a timeline of Savannah’s actions. Despite her immediate notification to the police, Savannah’s body is found the following morning in a nearby park.

In steps DI Natalie Ward, the head detective on Savannah’s case. Natalie is a hardworking wife and mother of two who would do anything for her family, including working long hours away from home in order to provide for them.

Unbeknownst to anybody, Savannah will not be the killer’s only victim... and may not even be his first! Natalie and her team must work fast to find a connection between the murderered teens, track down the killer, and stop him before he claims more victims.

Carol Dyer’s The Dare had my total attention from start to finish. It was fast paced, kept me engaged, and just an all-around great read! This book is the third in the Natalie Ward series, but in my opinion, could still be read without knowledge of the first two.

Wow
Having just finished The Last Lullaby (book 2 of the series) I saw this to request on Netgalley and when I was approved couldn't wait to start it.
It's half term with kids off school and I'm working night shifts this week too but even so I just couldn't put it down.
This case was edge of your seat stuff that had you both chewing your fingernails in anticipation and heartbreaking emotionally as you felt for the characters of the story in such hard circumstances. The usual twists and turns kept you guessing as to who was guilty and I couldn't help but wish success for the police team in their endeavour to catch this killer.
Roll on book four

I'm a huge fan of Carol and having read all her books this was a must have.

You never go wrong with any of Carol's books, and this one is another fantastic addition.
Suspenseful edge of your seat plot with engaging real characters.
Do yourself a favor and read this book you'll not be disappointed. I finished it in one day because I couldn't stop turning the pages.

Thanks Netgalley, Bookouture, and Carol for the chance to read this brilliant novel, can't wait for the next one.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

Natalie's team is tasked with investigating the murder of a 13 year old girl who went missing on the way home from school. The very next day another girl goes missing, and then a third the following day. This is one of those police procedurals which show how long you can keep going on adrenaline alone!

There were chapters describing the killer's motivation and (mercifully brief) sections describing the girls' experiences. The narrative followed the police investigation in a way that felt realistic; pursuing one lead and interviewing one witness after another, and coming up against one dead end or further twist after another.

The glimpses into Lucy and Natalie's personal lives were just enough to make them more human with detracting from the plot, although I still don't really see why Natalie is so loyal to David.

Highly recommended. I'm looking forward to the next one.

O WOW!!!!! ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!! Three Teenage girls go missing and the race is on to find them! Unfortunately its too late for the gorls and their bodies arr found near rubbish dumps!
DI Natalie Ward is heading up the investigation. But Natalie's own personal life is on the rocks too!!
Then Natalie's own daughter Leigh goes missing!! Has the kidnapper struck again or is it because Leigh can't stand listening to her parents arguing anymore!!
This is the third in the series and is by far the best!! Although the previous two were excellent too! I would highly recommend it. Thanks Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this arc.
