I'm a big fan of Cathy Glass's books and enjoyed a previous Lisa Stone book but I could not get through this one. The plot just seems so far-fetched and contrived. I rarely read a book on NetGalley that I don't purchase for my library but I'm afraid this one is a no-go.

Having read all of Cathy glass books and when I discovered she was going to be releasing a thriller series under the pen name Lisa stone you can imagine my utter excitement and impatience at waiting for her books to be released so I was absolutely delighted to get my hands on the doctor after reading stalker and the darkness within which by the way are both fantastic reads!... the doctor was in the same league of course and is worth absolutely five shiny big fat stars. Lisa stones writing style is beautiful, she pays attention to detail and knows how to lure her readers in and keep you engaged, so much so I’d be counting down the hours at work until I could come home, put my feet up and get my next fix of the doctor each chapter is a cliff hanger, we are told the story from different points of views which gives you an insight into both neighbours lives, Emily’s who lives next door to the mysterious doctor burnman and his timid wife Anita, Emily tries to befriend them especially Anita but her olive branch is not wanted especially from Dr Burnman who wants to keep himself and Anita away from prying eyes... particularly as he’s hiding a dark secret which Emily starts to grow suspicious about after she seeks him most evenings from her bedroom window in his outbuilding and Emily is determined to uncover what he is hiding in there and why Anita is so afraid, Emily doesn’t realise by doing so the danger she is putting herself and her family in...

An absolutely gripping thriller that has you hooked from the very first page and gives you many wow moments this book has set the bar very high for the rest of the books I plan to read , I love Lisa stones books and I’m very much looking forward to the next one!

This was a disturbing book. I found some of the subject matter to be hard to get through. I particularly had a hard time with the abusive relationship between Amit and his daughter and wife. Obviously he was completely psychotic but to treat his daughter as she is a waste of life really bothered me. There was some justice by the end. But then again.....
I received this ARC book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book creeped me out- in a good way!! Dr Burman was the darkest and most sinister character I have ever had the displeasure of meeting.
Some reviewers found the plot around Cryogenics to be far fetched. I am sure there are weirdos out there , like Dr Burman, who are carrying out similar experiments right now.
There are references to animal cruelty which is suggestive and not descriptive. This was necessary to the plot of the book and I think it worked well.
I loved The Stalker by this author and I loved this one even more. When’s her next one out?

Did finish this book but barely. Not a edge of your seat thriller. A lot of animal abuse. And the story just was ok.

I was intrigued by the premise of this book.
The early chapters held my interest, but the later ones became too farfetched to be believed.
Also I was upset about the animal abuse theme as I'm an animal lover.

I did finish the book as I hate leaving unfinished books, but I expected more from this plot.
Thanks Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

With the premise of this novel offering a ‘twisty and gripping’ read it certainly peeked my interest, but I have to say I was rather disappointed with the execution. I found the plot to be adequately thought out and although the novel captivated my attention in the beginning as I was keen to find out what was happening between Dr Burman and Anita, my interest dwindled throughout the course of the book. Furthermore, I have to say that I found the twists of sci-fi to be rather far fetched and the vast amounts of animal abuse rather unsettling.

I don't want to ruin this book for everyone who still has to read it, but believe me when I say that you are in for a thrilling read!
The story is really well written and I could not put it away. Can highly recommend!

This book grips you from the outset as the questions regarding the odd behavior of neighbours in an ordinary suburban street is captivating for any reader. I was excited by this curiosity and then went on to be disappointed by the turn the book takes with the plot regarding Cryogenics. It is too far fetched to consider this to be believable and the borderline sci-fi premise is too much to take on board. Such a pity as I enjoyed the writing and the strained relationships of the neighbours. I couldn't continue when it came to light that the DIY Cryogenics was to become a main plot line, this just went to far for me.

The Doctor is a disturbing and interesting book. I am sensitive to animal or child abuse and warning this book has animal abuse.

I wasn’t able to get too far into The Doctor, I found the writing very basic like asking a school child to write a scary story. Shame as the storyline seemed interesting and I’d like to see where it went.
Just a huge warning for any other animals lovers but there’s lots of animal abuse in this.

Emily and Ben have just moved and they can’t wait to meet their new neighbors. Anita and her husband, Dr. Burman seem less eager to get acquainted. Anita almost never leaves the house and doesn’t even want to pick up the phone. Emily refuses to give up on Anita and keeps trying to reach out to the woman, but a few weeks later, Emily disappears. She’s left a note for Ben, saying she’s fallen in love with another man, but he doesn’t believe it. Ben believes Emily’s disappearance has everything to do with her interest in their new neighbors. This book creeped me out, I’ve had some super weird neighbors myself in the past, so this story was all too real for me
