Tambula by Susan Wuthrich has all of the ingredients for a great read, but the writing is somehow disjointed and the characters not fully developed. The setting is interesting but doesn't play a huge part in the story.

A trip to Mozambique with old friends in a VW bus brings many feelings to the surface for Dek, Benny, Nigel, and Liz. How this trip affects each person is at the root of this sensitively written book.

I decided to read Tambula because I love stories centered around Africa. This is a good story, though confusing at times. The story unfolds at a good pace for the most part. It does drag a bit here and there. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. The characters are too numerous. Because of this, none of them are as fully developed as they could have been. I wanted more substantial interactions between the characters. Overall, it's a good read. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

This story was interesting enough. Other than once, around the 60-70% mark when I was tempted to start skipping pages, the story kept me reading till the end.

There are a number of characters to keep up with, and I can't really say whose story it is, although I guess ultimately it's Deks.

The ending might come as a surprise to a few, but I think that's a good thing.
