Two things I haven't done for the longest time !! - been to Cornwall or read a Catherine Alliott book. I have definitely been missing two really good things. Catherine's descriptive writing takes you right there with a varied cast of characters in this book. You can picture the scene throughout and feel for the subjects involved. This is a really good book that all fans should be reading to feel that wonderful summer feeling .

Destined to be a big seasonal hit with the ‘buy it at the airport, read it on the sun lounger’ crowd, but none the worse for that, A Cornish Summer is the perfect feel-good escapist novel.

Packed to the brim with glamorous but still relatable characters, the plot is cosy but still current. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and absolutely loved the devastatingly romantic ending.

Five well earned stars to Catherine Alliott – you are a national treasure, missus.

A Cornish Summer is the story of artist Flora who, after many years being divorced, is still in love with her ex-husband Hugo. Flora is invited to Cornwall to paint a portrait of her ex father-in-law and over the course of the summer begins to realise that Hugo is not who she thought he was. As Flora has her eyes opened to the shortcomings of her ex-husband, she is finally able to move on with her life.

A enjoyable book which has a good cast of characters. This was an easy and entertaining read.

What a good read. Complicated family and friends issues from teenager to parents and grandparents. Flora has lived since her divorce still loving Hugo. But when staying in Cornwall in a cottage near to Hugo's family home, she finds out all kinds of secrets from her son, ex husband and friends. Well worth sitting down with on a quiet afternoon.

This is a rather uneven story of Flora, artist and ex wife, and what happens during one summer when she is invited revisit her ex in laws family estate to paint her ex father in law's portrait. There is a delightful story at the heart of this book, and the main characters are well drawn. However, I felt that some of the 'supporting cast' were one dimensional stereotypes and some of the descriptions,of the hunt for example, were overlong in relation to the their importance to the plot.

An enjoyable read, loved the Cornish setting. Catherine Alliott always comes up with something good in the rom com category ... amusing at times , lovely characters and a joy to read.
