There is a new series of books from Quarto called Bright Start. A Thank You Walk is the first of these that I have read; I think that the books will be welcomed by those with young children.

A mom and her child go for a walk together. They observe the animals with whom they interact. The sounds that the animals make are their thank yous and the mom and child together enjoy hearing them, as for example, when a horse neighs after being given a carrot. The walk itself is also something that the child thanks her mom for.

The illustrations are simple with black, white and a bit of color yet they are very engaging. The dog Duke in particular has a lot of personality.

This is a sweet and simple story. It feels just right for the youngest children as it reminds them to be aware of the things that we may be thankful for and shows a warm relationship between a mother and child.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this read in exchange for an honest review.

A mother and daughter enjoy walking their dog while noting things to be thankful for along the way. Adorable illustrations embellish this delightful introduction to mindfulness and gratitude.

What a precious book about saying thank you! I love that the illustrations are simple instead of flashy, as gratitude is often the same thing. ;) I would love the physical copy of this for my son, his first words were Thank You! :)

This book for the very young looks fine through the use of just one colour, but I'm not sure how wonderful the script is. A girl walks her dog with her mummy past lots of animals that make noises, and they decide everything is a noise of gratitude, from neighing horses (which I don't think is specifically true) to the buzz of a flying insect (which I am quite sure is a lie). Still, this is a board book for the parent to share while they instil thanks, which is something so often lacking in the world these days. It's a simple lesson, then, in sharing and being grateful for having quality time together, although not to be bought by sticklers for the truth.

his is from an advance review copy for which I thank the publisher.

I am sorry to report that this book was a disaster. I could not get it to open past the double-spread cover illustration. No amount of swiping would bring up the first page, and this was after I had waited for nearly twenty seconds for the thing to open at all. And this was on a new iPad.

Clearly this is yet another print book designed without an ounce of thought given to the electronic version. Amateur reviewer that I am, I do not merit the print version of books, so the e-version is all I can comment on and my comment here is: avoid this like the plague. I rarely have problems with ebooks, even ones consisting entirely of images, but this one was a doozy. When I killed the application (Adobe Digital Editions reader) and reopened it, I was able - after the statutory wait of twenty seconds for it to open so I could to swipe to page one - after multiple tries, but then it locked again, and I killed it again, since it would not let me recover or return to the library.

On the third try, when it took even longer to open (close to a minute). I managed to get to page two, whereupon it locked up again. I gave up on it at that point. I cannot commend a book that is so badly-designed that it won't let you actually read it!

Cute, simple story about saying thank you for small acts - lovely way to talk to children about kindness and expressing gratitude. Can't go far wrong with something like this!

Bright Start - A Thank You Walk by Nancy Loewen was another sweet little book about a dog called Duke, who is happy and excited to go on a walk. It's simple and easy to read with lovely illustrations However, I found the colours of this book very Bland and boring! and sometimes confusing "Orange Clouds!!!!"
it need's more brighter colours and especially the correct colours i.e. clouds etc as this could become confusing when teaching a young child items around them. It's aimed at 1-3 year olds. This book could be so much more and entertaining.

Thank you to Nancy Loewen, Quarto Publishing Group - words & pictures, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

A Thank You Walk is a lesson for children in gratitude. The mom in the story points out to her child how the animals and insects say thank you for the good deeds the two are doing along the way. The story makes a quick ready and a perfect feel good bedtime story.

A book aimed at 1-3 year olds with the lofty aim to teach them about gratitude while walking the dog.
Part of the Bright Start series.

"Let's all go on a thank you walk together!
How many ways can you say Thank you?
This story explores gratitude. Gratitude is a feeling of thankfulness and appreciation.
Saying thank you when someone does something nice for us, helps us develop strong, healthy relationships!
Every story in the Bright Start series develops and nurtures your child's emotional intelligence."

My guess is that some parents reading the back cover will not feel inclined to buy the book.
I like the simple black and white drawings here enhanced by the one colour orange, mentioned in the story to point out orange clouds??
Good format for a book aimed at this age group and lots of associated interesting images to talk about. I love the concept. disliked the over stated sales pitch and wonder abput the feelings of the animals and insects encountered. The dog, Duke, is happy and excited to go on a walk but is a lick to one's face an expression or feeling of gratitude.
Thechild is clearly thankful for the walk and what she has learned but does not the story require more honest and considered examples of thankfulness?

A sweet book about saying thank you! A great introduction about the world and using manners aimed at 2-4 years old. I would use this in my nursery class as a starter for circle time. The illustrations are clean and and friendly looking. Thank you netgalley for letting me have an advance copy.

This wasn't a bad one for toddler-aged children. It shows them how they can be kind and helpful to people and animals around them.
