I really enjoyed reading this book, there was enough suspense to keep on the edge of your seat throughout. The characters were good, the story itself was great and the style of writing was perfect. I have read other books by this author.. looking forward to the next one out.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes reading psychological thrillers.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.

This was quite a slow read but at the same time it was very good and it reeled me in to the point I just wanted to keep reading,

I put off reading this for ages and I am not sure why. I love psychological thrillers and this one didn’t disappoint - there was lots of twists and turns. I would read more by the author in the future.

This one is a slow burner but ticks along at a nice pace and has plenty of tension and twists. I thought I had it sussed out a few times, only to be wrong. The twist at the end was one I didn't see coming and it was cleverly done.

Took me a little while to get into this but once I was hooked that was it! really well written, clever, loved it!

A little slow going and didn't grab me straight away (like most thrillers I read). However, the ending was superb and the character development was brilliantly done!

The Hidden Wife is such a good book! Seren is a junior reporter for a local newspaper and she’s just been given her first big story. She’s been tasked to interview famous novelist Max Blake, who’s wife Julia has been missing for months. So far he’s refused all interview requests by the media so this is a big deal for Seren and could make her career!

I was intrigued from the very beginning of this book as it opens just a few hours after Julia has been reported missing and we don’t know what’s happened to her. The novel then moves forward a few months and Seren is given the assignment to interview Julia’s husband Max. Max is a famous author and has so far resisted talking about Julia in the media so Seren is thrilled, and a little apprehensive, to be given such a job! There is something of a connection between Max and Seren as she knows what it’s like to lose a loved one and not have all the answers. I was curious as to whether Max knew this and would play on it for his own advantage as he seemed a very clever man.

The Hidden Wife kept me on my toes throughout. There are moments where I thought I had the mystery cracked but then something else would happen and I would be questioning everything all over again. The novel is a slow-burn to begin with. You really get to know Seren, which I loved as it meant I was with her all the way as she gradually starts to try to learn more about Max. There is a point in the novel though where it becomes utterly compelling and from there on I just couldn’t put it down!

The further I got into this novel the more it became apparent how everyone has a face they wear for others. It’s easy to think Max is slick and clearly hiding something but we don’t know for sure that he harmed his wife, we just presume he has. Seren has some real sadness in her life and she seems to keep people at something of a distance, even the people she’s closer to. Even the housekeeper seems besotted with Max and suspicious, even a little antagonistic towards Seren but there is more to her and I enjoyed finding out what was behind her facade.

I got Rebecca vibes from some elements of this book – the missing wife Julia, who we only really see through her husband’s, and occasionally the housekeeper’s, eyes. The somewhat naive junior reporter Seren who feels a little anxious around Max but is drawn to him at the same time. And Max, the enigmatic husband – did he harm his wife? Does he know where she is? I loved that there was a sense of Rebecca in the novel whilst at the same time it is absolutely its own story.

I very much enjoyed The Hidden Wife and have found since I finished reading it that I keep thinking about it. I definitely recommend putting it on your summer holiday reading plans if you like gripping, thrilling and hard to put down novels!

The Sir Walter Scott quote “Oh! What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive” seems the perfect sentence to summarise both the theme and the plot of this spectacularly written psychological thriller.

Do we ever really know what goes on behind closed doors? Thriller writer Max seems to have it all; money, success and a beautiful wife, 20 years his junior. From the outside they seem to be the perfect couple who have it all, but those closer to the couple tell a story about their tempestuous relationship. When Julia goes missing on their 10-year anniversary, suspicions are naturally pointed at Max. He’s an aloof moody man, and fits the stereotype of a tortured artist perfectly, but does that automatically mean he is guilty of murder?

Nine months after Julia’s disappearance, local reporter Seren writes a piece on missing loved ones or The Herald, which Max reads and strongly resonates with, so he finally decides to break his silence and speak to the press, but he will only speak to Seren, still a junior reporter and who has not been working at the paper long. Can she really solve the mystery of the beautiful Julia?

The Hidden Wife is majorly character driven and the author expertly creates a realistic, naive and flawed protagonist, and creates an unsettling situation with the nature of the relationship between Max and Julia and Amanda Reynolds has so cleverly planned and carefully executed the relationship.

Told in short punchy chapters the pace is kept fast as each layer of this sumptuous mystery is peeled off. The narrative was skilfully crafted and gripping and I spent the whole time enjoying the twisty ride but at the back of my mind, trying to figure out what was going on. I had several theories going on in my head but was still surprised by the satisfying and clever finish that I really did not see coming.

The writing is excellent, the characters are well-formed and believable and there is plenty to love in this book. I read it a single sitting as I was intrigued by the story and wanted to know what was going to happen next. The Hidden Wife certainly keeps you on your toes, trying to guess where the plot is going.

The ending was a total surprise and I really wasn’t expecting it, but somehow it ties everything together and makes sense as the individual threads of the plot are tied up.

The Hidden Wife is a tense psychological thriller from Amanda Reynolds that had all the elements that I want in a fantastic mystery/thriller. Very atmospheric and with twists and turns aplenty, this was an enjoyable and engaging read. I loved Reynold's writing style, her words flowing with great ease for me, drawing me into this wonderfully portrayed story, alongside her believable and realistic characters. The Hidden Wife was a captivating and enthralling mystery that had me hooked from the very first page. Secrets, duplicity, lies and deception all played a huge part in the highly entertaining plot. A memorable read with a great ending!

I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel, at my own request, from Headline via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

In The Hidden Wife we meet Max, he’s a successful author, he’s rich and has a beautiful wife called Julia. The couple seem to have it all in fact, they seem to be the perfect couple but appearances can be deceiving and when Julia disappears on their 10 year wedding anniversary, Max is the obvious suspect.
Nine months after Julia’s disappearance Max decides to talk, to break his silence, but he will only speak to Seren, a junior reporter for the local paper. Seren is obviously thrilled at the prospect of an exclusive but what truths will she uncover and did Max kill Julia that night?
The Hidden Wife is an intriguing story with very believable characters, it’s so easy to get totally wrapped up in the story and find that time just slips away. I started this one evening planning on only reading a few chapters, just to get a taste for the book before sleep but I ended up halfway through and before I knew it, it was 2am. With short, sharp chapters it’s easy to get lost in completely.
I really wanted to find out what happened to Julia and I had quite a few ideas, as the story progressed these ideas kept changing but I wasn’t prepared for how it would end. It’s a very cleverly written story that keeps you on your toes throughout.
This is the first book I’ve read by Amanda Reynolds and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed every single page, I’ll definitely be looking out for her other books now.
The Hidden Wife is a fast-paced story that is definitely gripping and easy to get totally absorbed in. With characters that come to life and writing that just flows it’s a story you need to make sure you have time read because once you start, you really won’t want to stop.

I love a good psychological thriller and THE HIDDEN WIFE certainly ticked all my boxes! A missing wife, a rich older husband, a young reporter, a dedicated police team and several red herrings, twist and turns along the way.

This is my first book by Amanda Reynolds, but it certainly won’t be my last – I was absolutely gripped by all the characters stories, in particular Seren, the young journalist who has been personally chosen by the elusive Max Blake to write an exclusive story about his wife’s disappearance 9 months after the event.

With her own personal demons chasing her Seren has no option but to face her painful past whilst investigating Julie Blake’s disappearance. Recommended for readers of twisty thrillers THE HIDDEN WIFE is a thoroughly addictive page-turner.

I wanted to love this book after I've seen all the hype on twitter.
However, I was slightly disappointed, I have to say it is wonderfully written and I loved the plot.
There were definitely some good parts, I just found it a little slow.

I felt this was an enjoyable, atmospheric read and enjoyed the multiple reveals and points of view. Good solid writing but I didn't really engage with any of the characters. I've enjoyed Amanda Reynolds books - she knows how to write page turners that's for sure - and I think I've enjoyed this one the most.

Since the first page this book has intrigued me, this is a missing case, a woman has disappeared and the first suspect is the rich husband. For now nothing special, but we are not reading the investigation because it has been hang up for a while. We are reading the interview to the missing wife’s husband; trying to explain his vision of the night she disappeared.
We will have the story told between the police investigation, questioning all the suspects; and Seren’s life in first person, making the reader more connected to the story.
I really liked the main character, Seren, a young journalist with her own personal problems who feels a strange connection with the eccentric husband and his isolated big house. You can almost feel the cold in your bones whenever Seren is near Max and his helper Mim, they have a curious relation and you can sense that they are hiding something, but what? This is not the only thing concerning Seren’s life, she has been receiving some strange calls at midnight and she thinks that maybe her lost brother is trying to contact her…
I have to admit that I didn’t have any sympathy for neither Max or Julia (the suspect and his missing wife), Max seems that was giving everything to Julia, but never the “human contact” she needed or the time. And Julia felt like a spoiled egocentric girl, she only cared for herself… Of course this doesn’t justify a killing, never, but I got the impression that no one ever told them how horrible they were together!
Mim is a curious character too, you don’t like her, but you feel that she is covering her boss… from what?
As you can see there are a lot of questions to answer, I will say that you’ll have them solved in the end, with a twist, of course, but an unexpected twist that will make this book a memorable read.
I must say that I would love to read another “case” from Seren, I would like to know more about her and her story and I am sure she is the perfect journalist to interview any murder suspect!

If you enjoy reading books with split narratives, you will be in your element with this book, that’s for sure! I was a little confused at first due to the timeline behind the split narratives, as I couldn’t quite work out whether the angle from the police was parallel with Seren’s interview, or whether it was set at a different time.

That aside, the overall storyline was so intense and highly atmospheric – I enjoyed the uncertainty of the events and not knowing which way to turn. I found the characters to be very in depth and I thought they all worked very well together, and complimented each other.

The complexity of the situation completely sideswiped me! I was so impressed by the red herrings and the authors ability to keep me hooked by the question mark looming over where Julia Blake was. I found the ending to be a little bit of an anti climax due to the build up surrounding Max and what he was involved in.

All in all, ‘The Hidden Wife’ was a really enjoyable, suspenseful read which kept me guessing. I’m looking forward to reading more from Amanda Reynolds.
