honestly I wanted choke the heroine for being so immature!!! and all of the sudden how the "father" appeared.. it felt unrealistic.. also, no hockey player is that foul mouthed, there was way too many swear words for my liking and the editor should had made a comment on this!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting my request for the ARC of this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I am a huge lover of sports romances. It's one of my most favorite romance sub-genres. So when I saw that a new-to-me author with a hockey romance was available of NetGalley, I eagerly submitted a request for an ARC.

The blurb sounded interesting. The cover was cute. But sad to say, those are the only things I really liked about this book. Oh and the prologue. The prologue was great! So I thought I'd be in for a good, emotional, somewhat angsty ride. But nope. Nuh-uh.

I didn't like Trevor. From Ch1, I already thought that he was a disgusting douche. Sorry. He is so NOT my idea of a great book boyfriend.

I also didn't like Lauren. I found her weak and whiny. Ugh. Sorry.

But I kept on reading. Maybe their personalities get better? Maybe the story gets better? Sigh. In my opinion, it didn't.

In fact, there's this one key scene between the MC's ---somewhere about 65% into the story, in what could've been a big pivotal and emotional moment --- and it's brushed under the rug so quickly and all is okay again! What?!?! How could she just...??? I would never have been okay with what he said and forgiven him just like that! And at this point, I just about lost whatever little admiration/respect I had for Lauren.

Sorry, I have to, at the very least, like one of the MC's in order to leave a 2-star review.

1.5 stars
I really wanted to like this book. Heck, I love most sports romance books. This one wasn't good. At times, it made no sense to me. Mortgage pay of for 8k made by someone he met for 5 mins?? I wish!!

It was non stop eye rolling from me. I skimmed to the end of the book, where it ended the way I thought it would.

This is book 1 in a series and a new author and while it is not a perfect read it is also an entrancing story and you can tell this story has the authors heart in it. The beginning started out kinda icky. Trevor is a manslut and he does not treat women very well. That is until he meets our heroine, Lauren on the ice and turns her way OFF.

But he feels pretty bad because he was having a very bad day and maybe even years but he had a sister who was murdered and he would hate having a guy treat her how he treated Lauren so he wants to make it up to her and I did like that about him.

Lauren is a desperate single mom. She is pretty broke and she has a daughter and amazing best friend and she works in a bank. Essentially Trevor is her hero by helpng her keep a roof over her head and is there totally for her.. I loved that bout him. They become this really great romance and I absolutely loved it.

Then things go sideways again and it was not my favorite part of the story but it is a BIG part of the story. I cannot spoil what happens but it really changes things for many characters in the story. Its why you can see how much heart the author put into this story.

It is a hockey romance and I dont know hockey but it is more about Trevor and Lauren and how they come together and are there for each other. The side characters were pretty great too even if at times the author confused me with who liked who etc. Can't wait for more.

Hockey romance is one of my favorite genres so I was happy to see a new series from one of my favorite publishers. Trevor’s and Lauren’s romance did not disappoint, but I was disappointed in the many factual inaccuracies about hockey. Since his sister’s unsolved murder, Trevor is going through the motions of living. A cheating wife and subsequent divorce have left him burnt as well. Until he meets Lauren. They get odd on the wrong foot and he fights to redeem himself to her and her little girl, Chloe. He falls hard and fast and his relationship with Chloe is especially sweet. There are twists and turns (though a few seem implausible) to get to their HEA. I am looking forward to more books in the series but would encourage the author to study up on hockey more - she’s got the romance part down!

I have mixed feelings about this book. I love hockey romances and had really high hopes for this one, but my opinion seemed to flip flop throughout the whole story. We’re first introduced to Trevor in the prologue and the stage is set with the tragedy that befalls his sister. This immediately drew me in, but as I continued to chapter 1, I found myself disliking Trevor’s character. Both the dialogue and his inner monologue seemed juvenile and obnoxious at times, and I worried about how the rest of the book would progress.

Once Lauren is introduced in chapter 2, things started looking up. I really enjoyed the buildup of Trevor and Lauren’s relationship. It wasn’t simply insta-love...Trevor really had to work for Lauren’s heart, but he wasn’t one to give up easily. I think Lauren’s daughter, Chloe, helped bridge the gap between them, and it was sweet seeing the relationship between Trevor and Chloe develop too. From there, the story and dialogue flowed so well, I thought I wouldn’t be able to put it down. But once I got to the halfway mark, I again found myself put off by some of the juvenile dialogue and “climactic” scenes that soon fizzled out.

The editing errors were bothersome after a while as well. Mostly I found words that were missing or phrases repeated within the same sentence that were quite obvious. For a trade published book, I found this surprising because I very seldom find errors in them.

Overall, I think the idea of the story was great, it definitely had potential, but at times both the story and characters fell flat and the way the story flowed didn’t feel consistent throughout its entirety.

Ok, so normally I love a good hockey romance. But. There was hardly any hockey happening in this book. I felt like it started promising. But Trevor did not come off likeabke even though he did a complete turn around. And the amount of cursing- and I’m a curser- was almost distracting. I will say I didn’t see the twist (spoiler) coming. And I did like the camradarie with the hockey players. And Chloe was adorable. Thank you for the ARC.

A great start to a new series Reckoning on Ice, book one You're the One by Lia Jordan. A new to me author that I'm looking forward to read more by. I enjoyed the storyline of single mom and hockey player possible romance. The characters Lauren (her daughter Chloe) and Trevor plus all the other side characters. The character development was perfect for the storyline. I can't wait to see what the next book in the series brings to up.

I really really really wanted to like this and I was overall impressed that it started off in a high note with the brutal murder of Trevor sister and the hockey star finally nhis way to Lauren and Chloe but over time… The story, dialogue and characters just became boring. It became a little more than difficult to focus and I was struggling to keep myself indulge in the read. Sadly, nothing was holding me on to the series and I have ultimately decided to drop the book.

Quick question; do sportsmen/athletes/hockey players talk smack all the time?

Trevor's depicted as the bad boy, the grieving brother and more than that- he's got alpha instincts, sets his eyes on something and does everything to get it. In this case, it happens to be Lauren.
She's a single mom to Chloe struggling to make ends meet and a chance encounter with Trevor is all it takes to set the ball rolling for their romance.
The story is told from both their views and that makes for an interesting read. All in all, aside from the talking smack, sexual references and innuendos- this makes for an entertaining read, just like a romance would.
Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.

The story of Lauren and Trevor.

He is a hockey badboy, and she is a single mum struggling to make ends meet.

They get off to a bad start, but he is determined to make it up to her. Twist in the story that you are kind of expecting, but overall an enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this contemporary sports romance. The story is told in a dual POV (Trevor and Lauren) which I really enjoyed. The story flowed well and seemed fairly realistic to me, which isn’t true of some contemporary romances. I liked that it spanned a few months rather than a couple days (I hate insta-love). There was also a twist I didn’t see coming at all which I enjoyed. My only complaint was there was a little too much drama for me but other than that I loved it!

Wow wow wow!! I loved this book!! I've never read this author before and I'm so glad I did! This is Trevor and Lauren book, Trevor is a Hotshot goalie for a hockey team, and Lauren has a beautiful little girl from a jerk of a hockey player that left her when she told him she was pregnant! Lauren bestie takes her to a hockey game for her birthday even though Laurens not really into hockey at all! Lol she wins a chance to go down on the ice to win $5000. Trevor is the goalie she's trying to score on! This book had everything! Right from the beginning it was heartbreaking! I didn't expect the book to go the way it did but I'm glad it did!! It was very exciting! Lots of suspense! And really really hot 🔥🔥🔥 lol definitely don't miss out on this one! It's so worth the read! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!
