What a charming book. It takes on important issues in a gentle style with sympathetic characters abounding. The cows are perfectly rendered and their ability to speak with humans is a throw away/no big deal power which is thus completely believable. A short easy read to cleanse the mind from the onslaught of bad news without minimizing the challenges to be faced. If the reader wants to spend time with more like this herd, I recommend Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Story by Leonie Swann
