Although this book did keep me reading it, many of the scenes were too fantastical to be believed, for a story that should have been based on history. At times it was hard to get past. I tend to enjoy books that teach me about another era or time in history, and this story did that for a large part of it. The writing wasn't particularly good, but parts of the story were interesting.

I received this from Netgalley.com for a review.

Set in 1930's, Cornelius tells a reporter a dramatic tale of his time spent as a soldier in the Civil War.

This was hard to read. The characters conversation was unnatural, stilted and uncomfortable to read. I never got a grip on the story and felt nothing for them.
