This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended

Highly emotional and at times heartbreaking. A fantastic piece of historical fiction. So poignant. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys wartime fiction.

A great historical book and what I liked is I felt like I was there so that I could actually feel the pain and the caring natures of some of the characters.

Love and friendship
A lovely story which floats between past and present a very emotional story that pulls at your heart.The charactors and the story are well suited i can highly recommend this book just loved it all hooked me very good read

When Vivi has to take in a refugee child she is at first reluctant to take Pearl home and her husband Edmund definitely doesn't want her but as she gets to know Pearl she brings light into her life which because of her marriage has long turned sour. Going back in time we met a younger Vivi and her sister Olive,a very good artist, and learn how Vivi is desperate to marry Edmund..... what went so badly wrong!

An interesting story especially with Olive and the life she led, a bit slow going at times but worth persevering with

This was a different kind of read for me but I was absolutely blown away by it. The author has written an emotional, true to life story which gives such an insight into the lives of those who lived through the war.

I enjoyed reading this book as it covered an aspect of WWII that I had not read about before. The children that were sent from London to the countryside for their safety. Parts of it were heartbreaking. I did feel that some of it was long and tiring and I did not love the ending but overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend it.

When I Was Yours uses a dual narrative being set in both WW1 and WW2, I really enjoyed this and it’s not something I had come across before but it was great in that is highlighted the difference in attitude, opinion, experience of the main character. A unique way of seeing the impact of war.
A very emotional, thought provoking read that really brought tears to my eyes yet also made me smile.
I have to admit it took me a while to get into but its definitely worth persevering.

In was given a copy of When I Was Yours by Lizzie page by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. The book is set in 2 different times during the first world war then the second. Vivienne during the first world war goes to help as a nurse, she is engaged to Edmund who keeps her at a distance. During world war 2 Vivienne is still married to Edmund they have no children but takes in a young girl called Pearl. They don't realise it but their lives are linked. This is a good historical fiction.

Having read both the Orphan Train and Before We Were Yours, I can truthfully tell you this book will make you cry, just like those did. During a tumultuous time in British history, the country's leaders did their best to protect British citizens even if it mean separating families. As the story of the displaced child and her foster mother picks up speed, you'll hope that the two find their way to a deeper relationship. Lizzie Page takes us on an emotional trip that ends in love and understanding. The ending leaves you feeling sad but glad too.

By no means is this a light read.
It’s based around war time and gave me greater insight than I ever thought about.

When my grandparents were alive I heard lots about the war, the rationing and the “war effort”.
I heard about the children who were safely sent to live with others in the country. However that didn’t always have an happy ending.

This book gave me yet another angle on things.

A moving, emotional read. Not all doom and gloom, but very realistic.

A heartbreaking and touching story.

Europe is at war; the young men are fighting and dying in the trenches. Two close sisters decide they must leave their London home to help drive ambulances in France.
The book flips between the two world wars; as readers we experience how life changes for all concerned. Within the lines of fiction there are a few historical characters and facts intertwined.
We see how the sisters lives move in different directions; both against each other's live choices.

I have read two of Lizzie Page's books that deal with the First & Second World War. In this book she combines both wars in joint timelines.

Vivienne always believed that she would marry Edmund. Their families were friends & it seemed just a case of waiting for him to ask. The outbreak of the first world war means that they may be a long delay & she & her sister Olive, go off to drive ambulances at the Front.

The second timeline is at the start of the second world war. It would seem that Vivi had her wish as she is married to Edmund. However there is not much happiness to be found.The couple are quite isolated & do not socialise. At first she is reluctant to take in an evacuee but as there seems to be no escaping it, Pearl comes into their lives. Pearl's arrival make Vivi join the human race again as she works towards the war effort with her neighbour & cares for Pearl, giving her the love she would have given a child of her own.

This was a well written & researched story. It captured the atmosphere of the two timelines very well. For me it didn't really hit the mark. I found myself getting increasingly annoyed with Vivi. I know she was a woman of her time, but her obsession with marrying Edmund (despite indications that he was never going to make her- or anyone else, happy!) annoyed me. I had a lot more time for Olive, her arty sister.

Fantastic. So well written and absolutely moving. If you are a fan of historical fiction, this is a must read.

I wish that I had enjoyed this book more than I had because I had such high hopes. The premise sounded interesting, but unfortunately the story was too slow. I found myself losing focus during the first half of the book. I found the main character to be too passive and kept waiting for her to take her life into her own hands. Sadly, this did not happen for most of the story.
