Due to a passing in the family a few years ago and my subsequent health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for years after the bereavement. Thank you for the opportunity.

I had just finished the “Being Creative” book that is put out by the same publisher as this one. Knowing that fact, I expected the books to be similar in nature, but they could not have been any more different in content while keeping the same book format. I found the creativity book to be inspiring, yet I found this book to be more of a vehicle for a person who is trying to get other people to agree with their way of thinking. Yes, I guess that is a way of thinking differently, but not what I was expecting. The author divides the book into five chapters: people skills, lifestyle, self-help, society, and recreation. Each chapter is divided into four topics, with a toolkit section and information for further learning. Given that there are only four topics for these broad chapters, some of the choices seemed rather bizarre, like having an entire section on horror films in the recreation chapter. And of course, there are far more people skills than the four mentioned. In each section within the chapters, the author gives his ideas on the topic as well as quoting or mentioning other writers or philosophers who he believes can give insight into the subject. But some of the relationships between these two are tentative at best or are actually just bizarre, like in the chapter on eating meat where he talks at some length about the philosophies of Karl Marx. In all, this didn't feel like a book that would Inspire different thinking at all. It seemed more of a platform for the author to express his ideas.

I am really enjoying Adam Ferner's books. This one took a little while for me to get through, just because of the subject matter and how thought-provoking each section was. Very insightful, very moving. Great layout design as well.

Thanks to netgalley for providing me with an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review
Personal Development is my Jam. This book was just okay for me. I read at least one "self-help"/personal development book a month so for me I basically feel like I know what they are going to say, but its all about the personal touches and stories that make them or break them for me. There is nothing wrong with this book, I just didn't connect with it as much as some others, but I know there will be lots of people out there that this book will resonate with.

I tried this series again, but again not feeling the set up and the imagery/graphics to put point across. There are some nice and good points, but not enough for me to pick it up again. For others it may be a great set up.

I wonder how few great books keep hidden on bookshelves of libraries and amazon.
This one is released on 9 the April and I hope it becomes a bestseller.

It is one such book with simple sober cover but when you open it, it is like sparkle radiating crystallised philosophical nuggets.
.
It is written in friendly, compact and enjoyable prose and designs and art soothe your eyes. There is no overstretching of concepts and you get a lot of new stuff.
.
It covers wide range of topics like human behaviour, vegan diets, loyalty, death, responsibility, global warming, books, movies, creativity, virtual reality, taste and lot of similar topics with worth reading advice and reasoning.

Sections on mortality and horror movies are particularly interesting.
.
Best part is small crisp chapters.
There is no useless data or graphs. There are no forcefully manufactured stories to prove a point.
There is discussion about all prominent philosophers who ever existed.
.
Every idea is examined insise out with little bias.
Reader is encouraged to think about particular idea from his perspective.

I am looking forward to reading other books of this series.

It is a book which is much better than many bestselling," blogger written" self help books.
Thanks netgalley and publisher for review copy in exchange of a honest review.

"Like the sugar from a donut, philosophy covers everything."

I really enjoy reading this book and all of the ideas in it. Each chapter covers a new topic to think about. Each chapter has a main topic and a few subtopics which make it easy to read. People skills, Self-Help, and Society are just a couple of the topics covered in this book. At the end of each chapter, it goes over what you've learned which is really helpful. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about philosophy.

According to the title, this should be philosophy for modern life, but I don't find this accurate at all. Instead, almost every point is taken from historic literature and moving along the same tracks. This includes old ethical standards taken out of religion etc.
What should be philosophy for modern life is CRITICAL THINKING. For example vegetarianism and veganism, that are based on the so called fact that all animals kept by humans are suffering. Is this correct? and what is natural? should be questions asked.
Facts: Humans are made to digest meat. Fact: Without eating meat, there would be no human race. Fact: Wild animals are in constant search for food, constant awareness of dangers, and when they die naturally it's either slow death from sickness or being ripped apart by predators. And our cows are suffering? Please!
My point is that this book is old news; modern philosophy has to start from scratch, using all the science, knowledge and critical thinking we can.
