Having loved the authors previous book i was so excited to read this but i just found the entire premise rather ridiculous. I don't want to spoil too much with this review but as soon as the first twist was revealed i couldn't take the story seriously. It was well written but i couldn't get past how unrealistic the plot was.

Twenty years ago the concept of an AI entity passing the Turing test would have been a distant dream (or nightmare depending on your perspective). Today, we see AI algos beating the world's best GO player and allegedly passing the Turing test with Google's Duplex. It's not too much of a stretch to imagine JP Delaney's Abbie AI sentient entity in The Perfect Wife. Whilst initially it seemed not quite my favourite genre, I quickly became engrossed. Other than it being a very good mystery story and thriller, it does explore some interesting philosophical concepts. So if you are in to thrillers but want an added dimension then this is the book for you.

I loved this page turner. JP Delaney has this fast pace on every book. The opening is fantastic, Abbie wakes up without remembering anything, and as she tries to figure out what's going on we get pulled into a mysterious plot with twists and turns. The plot is a bit unrealistic and at times I thought it was a bit over the top, but this book offered me a good fun ride, so I would definitely recommend to thriller lovers!

I wouldn't have picked this book if I had know what I was getting into before I started. I did not realise it had a sci-fi element in it, definitely not the type of book I normally read. I did enjoy this book; the pace was good and it made me think.

I would recommend people to give it ago even if you think it wouldn't be for you.

Absolutely enjoyed from start to finish, u didn't want the book to end. Highly recommended, if you like books that keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat.

The Perfect Wife is unlike any thriller I've read before and I have read a fair few thrillers!

I tend to dislike when people brings up Black Mirror in comparison to other media that has tech prominently featured (and usually in a negative light) but this really did have a Black Mirror vibe. The parallels between this book and Black Mirror's Series 2 episode "Be Right Back" were really interesting. In fact, The Perfect Wife often felt like the natural successor to that episode.

Whereas in Black Mirror we follow a woman who has purchased an android that looks and sounds exactly like her partner following his death, in The Perfect Wife, we follow a tech mogul who has recreated his wife in android form, following her disappearance. The stories do diverge greatly after their respective set-ups but they do both ultimately call into question the moral and ethical dilemma's of the future of AI.

Aside from the main plot, the writing was fantastic and I loved that it was almost soley told in first and second person. I think that really pushes the reader to question their own thoughts on whether they believe androids are capable of being sentient. There was also some really nice character moments, most often focused on Danny, the son of the main character who happens to be on the autistic spectrum. From the Acknowledgements, I believe the author themselves have a child on the spectrum and so I appreciated that they used their experience to discuss autism on more than just a surface level.

Overall, a really enjoyable book and definitely worth a read. The ending perhaps is a bit rushed and I wasn't a huge fan of the resolution but I don't think it detracts too much from what is otherwise a thrilling read.

This was my first read from the author JP Delaney who I had heard lots of goods things about. I really enjoyed the storyline and I look forward to reading more from the author in the future.

This was a good book. I have read JP Delaney's previous books, which I enjoyed, although I wasn't as keen on Believe Me. This was back in the realms of his books that I enjoyed though, which I was pleased about.

A brilliant psychological thriller.

Just wow! Another completely blind step into a book and, I think, probably all the better for it!

The story of Abbie who wakes after 5 years with no knowledge of what happened to her. Her devoted husband (and silicon valley CEO) is there to help her and prompt her memory.

All is not quite as it seems and soon the veneer of their perfect life starts to show some cracks. A brilliant thriller that twists and turns. Definitely worth a read!

I'd like to preface this review with my sincerest of apologies for the ridiculous delay on getting this review published. I had a somewhat tumultuous 2019, and book reviews were put on hold. But, I'm back to my normal, timely review schedule now, and am very grateful for the opportunity to review this novel!

Review:
Ok. So. I do NOT do robot books. I don’t love AI-heavy worlds, and because of this, I went into The Perfect Wife with pretty low expectations. BUT I loved JP Delaney’s The Girl Before, so I tried to put my preconceived notions aside.

I’m SO glad I did. HUGE props to Delaney’s writing, because I was immediately hooked.

I also tend to avoid books written from second person POV. It usually takes me out of the story, but I was sucked into the story without even realizing it!

I don’t want to go into too much detail about the plot, as I believe this is a book best read blind.

What I will say is, it was a thrilling read. On the surface, it’s a well-written mystery. Underneath that, though, is a story that forces us to consider what it means to be human and how we define connection and love.

It pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I’m grateful for that.

I was prepared for this to be a 3-star read (good, but not great). But, for its thought-provoking premise and exceptional writing that pulled me in despite my lack of enthusiasm, I’m giving it a solid 4 stars.

Finally again a thriller with an original story, just pick it up and read it

I know this is short but I don't want to take the joy of discovering this book for yourself away from you. Saying anything more about it will ruin it for you...

I’m a huge fan of Delaney and I absolutely loved this book. The twists and turns made it one hell of a roller coaster ride and it raised issues that I will think about for a long time after finishing.
Part psychological thriller/mystery, part sci Fi, this was a successful fusion that stays with you. Five stars from me!

JP Delaney's books certainly know how to boggle the mind. This is a story of a woman who dies but is then brought back as an AI robot. The story was somewhat unnerving though I can't fault the author for being innovative, this book is certainly something new.

This is a thriller that constantly keeps you guessing right from the first page. You follow an AI 'robot', companion robot created by a man who's wife Abbie died 5 years ago and he has created a robot with her memories and characteristics. The 'new Abbie' begins to learn more about the past and things aren't necessarily what they seem or are they?

A great book from start to finish, I would highly recommend this to any and all thriller fans. Just a warning though: this book is hard to put down so make sure you dont have plans for the rest of your day

This story reminded me of a book I had read a few years ago. Very similar so to me the story was quite predictable. This story follows Abbie who wakes in a hospital bed with no memory of how she got there. The man by her side explains that he's her husband. He tells Abbie she's a gifted artist, a doting mother to their young son, and the perfect wife.

But as Abbie pieces together memories of her marriage, she begins questioning her husband's motives - and his version of events. Can she trust him when he says he wants them to be together for ever? And what really happened to her, half a decade ago?

As the story unravels you can kinda see where it’s going. Nevertheless it worth a read!

This is a difficult one to review because had I known what I was actually about, I don’t think I’d have requested it, however, it wasn’t as bad as I first thought it was going to be. The reason it wasn’t my cup of tea is because it’s about robots, artificial intelligence, and that’s just not something that I never read about. But saying that, it was an interesting read and I read it quicker than I thought I would so it must have intrigued me some what. Positives: I do like this author, the writing style, the short chapters and to an extent I liked the concept. Negatives: just not a topic I enjoy so it was probably wasted on me!

I loved this psychological thriller although I felt in some parts it was almost sci-fi. Wow there are some real twists and turns within the book to keep you gripped. Defo one to read. Thank you to net galley and the author for the opportunity to read this book.

The Perfect Wife is a bit different to the many other psychological thrillers around. It has a technological / sci-fi slant to it which makes it feel much more original. The plot line scuttles along at a decent pace, jumping back and forth along the time line into the present and the past. I found the majority of the characters to be unlikeable and cold, with a few exceptions. The plot is totally gripping and thought provoking, with many twists and turns. I highly recommend - just clear some space in your diary and enjoy this outstanding book!
