Mark Billingham never fails to deliver, and this time is no exception. Superbly drawn, nervy characters and an intense plot. The story pulls you in seamlessly.I’d love to hear more of Thorne and Tanner.

This is the 16th book in the DI Tom Thorne series, I have read every one and have to say I enjoyed this one just as much as I have the others.
Tom is called to the suicide of a young woman Philippa, who has thrown herself in front of an underground train. Although not in his remit, as he`s with MIT, he feels the need to look into the circumstances surrounding her death.
It seems she was the victim of a con man, Patrick Jennings, she`d met and loved only to discover in the end all he wanted was her £75000. Once he had it he was gone!
While Tom tries to discover if Jennings has any previous for this kind of fraud he`s called in to handle the murder of a young man.
Kevin Deane was discovered with his head smashed in on Margate Beach.
CCtv seems to show Kevin going down to the beach with a woman, presumably to have sex after which she or someone killed him, no trace can be found of the woman.
Running alongside this we have the story of "Sarah" a single mum whose life seems to revolve around her son, a son, we later learn does not exist.
When Sarah and Patrick start a relationship they become a very scary couple. Together they carry out acts they may never have done had they not met.
This is a well paced mystery with an abundance of twists and turns.
A chilling entertaining read, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks to Netgalley and Little Brown book group for the opportunity to read this as an ARC

I had never read anything by Mark Billingham before but I enjoyed this book very much and will be looking for further Thorne and Tanner books.

This was a chilling read - a partnership between two warped individuals with their own secret lives who seek to dominate and manipulate those around them.

I have obviously missed much of the backstory between the two detectives but still very much enjoyed the relationship between the two of them.

A riveting read - highly recommended.

Mark Billingham has done it again! I don't know how he comes up with all these wonderful dark ideas for the DI Tom Thorne series but each book has left me blown away and Their Little Secret is no exception! Some nasty twists but just makes me love the book more.

DI Tom Thorne returns in Their Little Secret which is another excellent thriller by Mark Billingham.

As you expect from this author the twists and turns never stop until the last page and the story definitely kept me turning the pages.

The main characters are well established but they are still allowed to grow and develop alongside the main story without detracting from the reader's enjoyment.

The publication of Mark Billingham's new novel is one that I eagerly look forward to and Their Little Secret did not let me down. Definitely recommended.

Thanks to NetGalley and The Publisher for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this but couldn't rate it more than 3 stars as I found the main baddie far too twisted and without reasonable explanation given. I have so many unanswered questions What started off as quite an obvious story swerved into a deeply troubling psychological beast of a thing. While this would normally be a good thing, I feel that everything progressed far too fast and we didn't get to know enough about the characters. Basically I wanted more.

I love that Nicola Tanner is now a recognised member of team and its not all about Thorne and that the aftermath of the events in the previous book in the series are hanging all over this one but you'll be okay reading this as a stand alone if you haven't read any of the previous ones.

I'm Looking forward to more Thorne & Tanner Thrillers.

Their Little Secret is the sixteenth book in Billingham’s Tom Thorne series but I didn’t find it a problem having not read all of the preceding books.

Thorne is interested in the suicide of a woman and persuades his boss to let him investigate further. This investigation leads Thorne to discover a fraudster who has met his match and their criminal activity is on the rise.

The book is full of twists and turns but I did find the ending to be unsatisfactory. Despite this, I’m now keen to read Thorne’s other mysteries.

I have only read one of Mark Billingham's previous novels and will now be out to fill in the gaps. Seriously enjoyable read and I found myself mesmerised with some of the nasty, wicked twists. I guess it needed a warped mind to enjoy it as well as write it.

DI Tom Thorne is a character I relate to with his comments, attitude and sometimes indecision in his personal life. He starts to investigate a suicide; outside his remit as a MIT officer but the woman, Pip, was defrauded out of a substantial amount of money and couldn't take the embarrassment.

Sarah, who does the school run everyday, bumps into the fraudster, whose name alters throughout, and there are fireworks. Then, the DNA of the man who was responsible for stealing Pip's money turns up in a murder enquiry in Margate.

Cleverly plotted storyline leads the reader down several paths and there was certainly one part I would never have guessed.

Thanks to NetGalley, Little Brown Book Group UK and Mark Billingham for my ARC in return for my honest review.

Brilliant read, highly recommended.

Have read most of the Tom Thorne books by Mark Billingham, find them on the most part an enjoyable read even if Thorne is a miserable bugger sometimes, part of his charm I expect.

Their Little Secret was a good read, but I thought it was slightly predictable in parts, I also agree with the other reviewer about the small glitch with Denise and Conrad, and wonder if people will get references back to what happened to Susan, if they hadn't read previous book?

The strands of seemingly separate stories all joined together very nicely, but I think in this day and age of being able to access schools securely, people wouldn't be able to just wander in?

I like the character of Hendricks very much, think he is a good balance with the melancholy that Thorne often exhibits. Thorne as ever, is the main character and never changes, not the happiest of souls.

I have not read any of the other Tom Thorne series of books, but that didn’t affect how much I really enjoyed this book, it had lots of twists and turns that kept me thoroughly hooked the whole way through.
I found one slight glitch where Thorne is wondering about when Denise met Conrad 3 years ago (at 63% through) and then shortly after Denise says about first meeting Conrad 18 months ago (at 64% through), but otherwise the characters are well written and there was enough detail in the storytelling for you to understand each of them and the relationships between them.
I was slightly disappointed at the ending as we don’t find out what happened to one of the characters (I won’t name them so as not to spoil it for other readers) but perhaps this will be picked up in a future book.
I would absolutely recommend it to others and I will definitely read others in Mark Billingham’s DI Tom Thorne book series.
