My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Every reader comes to a novel with their own expectations based on the novel's blurb. I try not to read blurbs so I can be completely surprised as the story unfolds. Unfortunately, when choosing books from NetGalley to read and review, this isn't an option. So, expectations were high. The premise sounded unique. And when I read the author is from the Cotswolds, one of my favorite places on the planet, I hoped the story would be set in the same place. It was. More on that later.

I read the book in one sitting. Parts of it drove me batty, as the main character Abby was in denial. I couldn't believe that she couldn't accept the obvious. Over and over again. Surely, she couldn't be pregnant. Surely, she wasn't raped. Definitely, nobody stalked her. Each incident, she and her friends rationalized away. Until they couldn't. Although this isn't how I would act in these particular circumstances, it's exactly what many people would do. Although frustrating to read, the author did an excellent job of the characters going through these stages of change until they had no choice but to accept what was happening.

And the red herrings as to whodunit! Wow. Every male became a suspect. I thought I had it figured out at least three times, so the actual culprit came as a total shock.

Then why the 3-star review?

After Abby accepted what happened to her, there seemed to be no balance in her reasoning. Even factoring in fluctuation of emotions from pregnancy hormones--and preggo hormones are wicked when it comes to messing with emotions--a woman isn't totally berserk, yet that's how Abby came across. She goes from, not confiding her pregnancy to her trusted, loving sister until she's five months along, to, wildly accusing each possible suspect in the worst way, sometimes publicly. It felt contrived and not honest to the character. The most honest and authentic statement Abby made was in the cafe with her sister, right before Abby got up and walked away. It ticked me off that I had to wait that long for such a truth.

But what really brought down the rating for me was poor use of setting. The Cotswolds are incredibly beautiful, charming, unique, with amazing history and homes/buildings. I've driven the area from one end to the other and walked several villages and towns. Yet the author let this incredible resource go to waste. With the barest setting descriptions, the story could have taken place anywhere. At one point Abby looks at a flat in Bibury. There's a famous attraction in Bibury. Loads of tourist buses stop here and dump off passengers just to photograph the beauty and charm. But no mention was made of this.

Overall, a good debut that kept me reading until I had to finish. But a few disappointing concerns that could be easily fixed in her next novel.

This was a fast and enjoyable read but didn’t blow me away. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.

This is the story of Abby who is shocked to learn she is 2 months pregnant after not having sex for a year. She figures this must have happened at a New Years party where she admittedly had too much to drink but she can’t be sure if she was raped or not. She begins investigating what actually happened that night.

I really liked the premise of this book. I thought it was pretty unique. I felt like Abby’s behavior was odd at times. It seemed like she was running around accusing people with very little evidence and that made her kind of annoying. But, in the end, I was totally surprised by who the perpetrator was and I felt like there was a lot of tension leading up to the reveal. I was probably at a 3.5 stars rating for most of the book but the end brought it up to 4.

Deliver me by Karen Cole is my second NetGalley read for this month. The publishing date is April 18th, 2019 and is released by Quercus Books.

This book was definitely thrilling. It was a fast read (finished in about 4 hours) and it was captivating the entire way. This book hits the nerve of every girl who has gone out and had a little too much to drink, causing memory loss. I was terrified for Abby and her thinking that she had been raped made me super uneasy. Rape culture was real in this book, from multiple people second guessing her accusation, to disapproving of her decision to get an abortion, to being told that if she hadn't had so much to drink this couldn't have happened. Instead of trying to help her like they should have been, most of the people in her life judged her for her actions. She spends a lot of time trying to trace her steps and talking to people who think she was just drunk and being a slut.

Her brother-in-law Rob and sister Ellie lost their child a few years ago, adding to the family pain. To make matters worse, Abby lives in the house with them. When Ellie goes missing, all hell breaks loose in the rest of their lives. Abby starts to go into labor, and we finally get a glimpse at who the mysterious person is sending her flowers, aggressive text messages, and harassing phone calls.

This book kept me guessing until the end. I was pretty sure I knew who the person was before I hit the end of the first 100 pages. I was completely wrong. I love that this book didn't go the "traditional" way thrillers like this seem to. It was nice to be surprised. Combine the surprise ending and the tempo of the book, and this is an easy 5 star read for me. I highly recommend picking this book up when it is released on 04/18/19.

Thank you to netgalley and the published/author for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Storyline starts out with the main character finding out she’s pregnant. Great news right? Problem is she hasn’t had sex in a year.

You’re drawn in the first few pages, and that doesn’t change. Good quick read.

So, how would you feel if you went to the doctor and found you were 2 months pregnant and you can’t remember having any sex since breaking up with your book friend a year ago.? That’s the premise set in the first few pages and the novel takes off from there. Totally suspenseful and engrossing read where I didn’t guess the ending. Brava, great book. Will seek out this author again!

Abi hasn't had sex for a year, so how can she be pregnant. It's impossible, yet she is. She spends her pregnancy trying to find out what happened at the New Year's Eve party she went to. She wants to know who the father is, who wouldn't!

A good read.

this book! 😍
it drew me in IMMEDIATELY, from the very first few pages I was hooked, and that doesn’t happen for very many books I dive into. I found myself loving, and then hating, and then loving our main character Abby all throughout the book, and I felt like her emotions and reasoning for everything she was going through was 100% valid. Rape is such a hard subject matter to tackle, but Karen Cole did it so flawlessly. From the very beginning I had it set in my mind that it was Abby’s best friend that had raped her, but oh my gosh that ending twist! I didn’t see it coming, nor did I even have suspicions of the actual rapist! This was an amazing book, recommending it to all my friends, and I can’t wait to read more Karen Cole!

Deliver Me by Karen Cole absolutely delivers as a fast-paced and compelling thriller that will keep you guessing right up until the final explosive reveal. This one ticked all of the boxes for me. I simply could not put it down.

Abigail Brooke is shocked when her doctor announces that she is two months pregnant, an impossibility in Abby's mind as she hasn't been sexually active in over a year. Abby casts her mind back two months and recalls a New Year's Eve party where she had consumed rather a large amount of alcohol. Could she have been raped by a party guest while she was unconscious?

So begins a devilishly clever twist on the typical whodunit, as Abby launches her own investigation to uncover her rapist's identity. When she begins to receive flowers and notes from a stalker who is observing all, Abby becomes increasingly desperate for answers.

This is a dark and twisty tale, and I absolutely devoured it. I will certainly be seeking out more from this author in the future. Highy recommended.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quercus Books for this thrilling ARC.

Deliver Me is a very well-written myster/thriller. Having never read anything from this author, I’m looking forward to seeing what she puts out next!

Abby is a newly pregnant, single young woman who’s living with her sister and brother-in-law. Except she hasn’t had sex in over a year, and she’s 2 months pregnant dating back to a blackout drunk night on New Year’s Eve. Could she have been too drunk to remember taking someone home, or did something more sinister happen?

On the whole, I was pretty satisfied with this book. I feel Abby’s character could have been given more depth, as I personally like to connect with the characters as well as the plot. It’s your standard suspense fuelling story with a good ending. However, again I would have liked a bit more connection so I could have had a more emotional response to some of the events at the end.

As a mystery, it did keep me guessing. Trying to piece together what happened to Abby was exciting and I finished the book in about a day because I just had to know! Karen Cole certainly knows how to keep you gripped!

A good experience, I would definitely recommend to a fellow fan of psychological thrillers and mystery novels.

This book was decent. The characters were well done and like-able. This book was easy to read and follow. I found it a little generic and average. It was an ok, easy read though. The story line follows Abby through an unexplained pregnancy that she feels could only have happened at a party she had to much to drink at. We follow her trying to track down people at the party to find out who the father could be, to find out if she had been drugged or raped. amid several wild accusations as the story becomes clear we realize things are no where near what they seemed. While the ending seemed somewhat predictable at first there was an unforeseen twist at the end which was good. The story felt somewhat implausible but again it was an ok read.

Holy moly, this is a serious shocker! This book definitely had me uneasy and curious, lead me in several different directions but once the twist hit, grabbed me and shook me! I didn’t see it coming a ‘kilometer’ (Brit book joke, haha!) away! Characters were good and comfortable, thrills were there, and the requisite twists and turns were there, and then some!! This book really made me peek over my shoulder and look at people in my life in a completely different light. Highly recommend, it takes “Gone Girl” and dumps it in the mud!

Abby is shocked when her doctor tells her she’s nearly 3 months pregnant. The last time Abby remembers having sex is over a year ago with her ex-boyfriend Ben. But now all of a sudden she’s pregnant and she knows that immaculate conception isn’t the culprit in this situation. There’s only one time that Abby could’ve gotten pregnant, even though she has no recollection of having sex. And that was at her friend, Danny’s, New Year’s Eve party. Abby got pretty drunk—so it’s possible she could’ve hooked up with someone. But if she was blacked out or worse, unconscious, that would be considered rape.

So Abby questions Danny about everyone who attended the party. And Abby tracks down every guy that she possibly could’ve hooked up with, questioning what they did together at the party. Abby is also receiving threatening letters, strange gifts and creepy text messages from an unknown sender. But the more messages Abby receives, the more she’s sure it’s her rapist. He knows things that are deeply personal and it’s clear she’s being stalked.

But no one is taking Abby seriously in regard to her allegations. And questioning the guests from the party doesn’t seem to be narrowing down her suspects. As the months pass and her due date is closing in, Abby is becoming increasingly scared and paranoid about her stalker.

And if Abby doesn’t figure out who the perpetrator is, not only will her life be in danger, but her baby’s life will be on the line too...

Deliver Me by Karen Cole is quick-reading domestic suspense. The plot of this story equally intrigued me and creeped me out. Becoming pregnant after being raped at a party sounds like an absolute nightmare. I like how everyone in the story seemed like a suspect, and I’m happy to say that I didn’t guess who the perpetrator was. Karen Cole didn’t craft a particularly unique story with Deliver Me, but it was a fun, fast read. 3.5/5 stars.
