I really liked the premise of the plot but it didn't quite live up to expectations in terms of suspense. I found the narrative confusing as it changed around a lot but I did find it gripping as I wanted to see who Amber had been cleared, of killing and how it unfolded.

I consider myself very privileged to have read this brilliantly written book. It was well written, full of twists and turns, and kept me paging over and over again, I just had to see how everything played out!
Well done, highly recommended.

I enjoyed this book, however, it's the same as Chalk Man, although it's a good book, it's marketed as "scary" and creepy, you can't help feeling disappointed a bit. Yes, there's the "Tall man" background, but it's more a drama than being a scary book. The characterisation was great, the story was a bit slow for my liking, but I still enjoyed this book. Would read Locke again, definitely.

I found this quite hard to read, bring written in 3 different timelines, I found confusing and disjointed. I did persevere with it, because I needed to find out 'whodunnit', but ultimately wouldn't recommend. Sorry!

The Tall Man is a playground tale. Something children use to scare each other with. However, when Sadie disappears leaving behind her newborn child it is apparent that he is very real to her. So Who is the Tall Man? Does he exist?

I was really disappointed in this book. I had read some great reviews and expected a book with growing suspense that I couldn’t put down. This didn’t live up to my expectations.

There are a lot of threads in this book. We have a group of children in the past who get caught up with the Tall Man. We also follow Sadie as she falls in love with Miles & leaves Amber behind. We have a later period in Amber’s life – 2016 and then we have Amber in 2018 who is part of a documentary about The Tall Man. We have diaries and the inside of an unspecified person’s mind as well. Often the jumps between the threads are clearly marked but not always which required a bit of back tracking in some areas when I realised I needed to read a particular section from a different point of view. The end result was disjointed and I found myself unable to get into the flow of the book – well, to be honest I don’t think it flowed at all.

The characters do have personality. However, I don’t think I liked any of them particularly. Miles, Amber’s Father and Sadie’s husband is the nicest of them. Amber is a a shallow and quite manipulative teenager as are her friends. As for Sadie, I just found her very strange.

I took a great deal of time to read this book. This is always a clue that I am not really enjoying it. Usually I can’t wait to get back to a book and read it at every spare opportunity. Not so in this case. I found it disjointed and it dragged. There is a great reveal at the end which I discovered that I just didn’t care about. This was not the book for me.

I received a free copy of this book via Netgalley.

The Tall Man has been marketed as a chilling thriller - but unfortunately for me I think I am in the minority here because I didn't find The Tall Man chilling or frightening but that's probably me and not the book.

The story follows Amber Banner a young girl who has been acquitted of a murder charge and now finds herself thrust into the media spot light and filmed by a documentary crew whilst she is on a media tour in The States.

With flashback chapters from 2 years prior leading up to the murder and her mother Sadie's story who abandoned Amber whilst she was only a few weeks old and returns when she is 16 The Tall Man has 3 different timelines, many characters and can, in places, be confusing.

Having read other reviews, I am sure the majority of readers will find this scary, chilling and gripping, but unfortunately it didn't work for me.
