Amanda Cadabra is my new favorite English Witch! I am not sure how I overlooked this delightful cozy that has so captivated me with it's story and unique characters that I binge -read all five books in less than a week. You are drawn in right off the bat, and you are sure to be bowled over (a little nod to the game of cricket). Amanda is the girl next door whom everyone loves and you can't help to think of her much like her Grandparents do, as Ammee. Then there the Inspector aka Thomas Trewlaney, who has his own mysterious back story, which he doesn't even completely know of understand. The townsfolk of Sunken Madley are pure Village and you should feel priveleged to be considered honorary village. The Hidey-Hole Truth is just the tip of the iceberg and while the cozy mystery may be solved there is bigger picture that we get little glimpses of as if looking through Aunt Amelia's crystal ball but looking at it the way Amanda does, as if there is a goldfish swimming around. A very good start to a very good cozy, much like a proper spot of tea just in time for elevensies.

This was a delightful entry into the world of urban fantasy, a very recognizable human world with just a twist into the magical realms. I deeply enjoyed the village vibe and the small cast of characters, and am eager to read more by this author.

This is a great start to a delightful cozy series and I loved it. The characters are such fun and the magic is appreciated. I love forward to reading the next book!

A great example of the cosy mystery genre, this fun book has just about everything I want from an easy read. I love the central character of Amanda Cadabra - a witch, but not reliant on constant magic. The primary plot for this book is slightly crazy as all the best cosy mysteries are! The beginning of the plot that will carry on through the series is clear and intriguing - but not pushed so hard that it takes away from the satisfaction of finishing this book.
It's not absolutely perfect, but as I can't give 4.5 stars the rounding up to 5 is definitely right in my eyes.
I am very much looking forward to reading the second book in the series, Amanda Cadabra and the Cellar of Secrets.

Amanda Cadabra and The Hidey-Hole Truth is a cute, cozy mystery that is perfect for fans of old school Nancy Drew. But with a magical twist!

I don't know why, but for some reason the title of this book reminds me of the old Nancy Drew that I used to read when I was a young girl. The title clearly shows that there is going to be some humor in this book, and thankfully, there is. I quite enjoyed the various characters, especially the Cadabra family and Detective Trelawny. As mysteries go, it was relatively light fun. I did have a few issues with the book. I absolutely abhor information dumps at the beginning of books, as seems to be so common of writers these days, especially indie authors. This book definitely suffered from that. I also found the author's head hopping to be exceedingly distracting. I think the author was going for an omniscient perspective, but it just didn't work. Not only would the author head hop between characters from paragraph to paragraph but also sometimes within a paragraph itself! Sometimes I myself feel like I am unclear on the difference between omniscient viewpoint and what we do sometimes disparagingly call “head hopping”; I think some of it is a matter of degree and narrative distance. The book didn't feel like it had an omniscient narrator who was distant from the scene but could tell us all that was going on; to me, this is omniscient viewpoint. However, this is not what happened here. In this book, I would definitely call it head hopping because of the non-existent narrative distance, and I did find it distracting.

Amanda’s introduction to magic was clouded with the mysterious death of her parents at a very young age. Twenty-five years later with the knowledge of magic being serious business embedded in her, and the death of her parents still an unsolved mystery. Now Amanda has become a conundrum to Detective Trelawney he could not understand how she can suffer from acute asthma and still work in the furniture restoration business, and the question to her parents' death remain still unanswered.

Amanda Cadabra And The Hidey Hole Truth by Holly Bell.

Amanda Cadabra is an orphan being raised by her Grandparents. A mysterious incident that had Amanda's family killed in a bus accident. Suffering with Asthma caused Amanda to be home schooled. Later than usual Amanda's natural talent of being a witch are slowly revealed to her Grandparents. They teach her how to protect herself from discovery while she learns more of her craft. By trade she is a Furniture Restorer. Inspector Trelawney is an investigator working on the unsolved case of the family deaths by the bus accident. Amanda gets a job at the old English Manor of Sunken Madley that has a murky past.

I found the story interesting with little quarks of comedy thrown in. Questions raised: why was the whole family gathered together for a bus ride and where were they being taken and why? Unanswered questions leaves this reader dissatisfied. This is not a standalone book.

A lovely light-hearted mystery concerning a young witch, her familiar, ghostly helpers and furniture restoration. Made me chuckle. I'm really looking forward to the next one in the series to see where the cliff hangers from this one go.

For all lovers of paranormal and cozy mysteries this is a good read. Light. Enjoyable. Fun. I have read the book two first before this one and both were enjoyable. Tip: it is better to read these in order. I am highly recommending this book if you like paranormal, humor and suspense.
You will love Amanda's adventures as much as I did!

A most unusual sort of mystery. I enjoyed it. The britishness of the writing didn't put me off at all. It's a gentle sort of mystery and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next in Amanda's life. #AmandaCadabraAndTheHideyHoleTruth #NetGalley
