** spoiler alert ** A book about siblings and secrets and how far you'd go.... to keep them both.
I felt most of the book fairly predictable, though towards the end there was at least one thing I hadn't fully expected.
I'm always intrigued by these books where the sibling relationship is so central.... if my sister broke the law in a serious way,I would not be hiding the evidence.
By the end of the book,I was left wondering had I liked either of the sisters... And I'm not sure I did.
I think this could be the perfect beach read. An undemanding page turner.

I loved the writing style and the slightly twisted relationship between the two sisters. Penny is a deliberately unlikeable character in some ways (which I always enjoy in a female protagonist) and yet it is easy to empathise with her a great deal, her envy and her bad choices born of insecurity.

The one thing I found slightly disappointing was the ending, because the description promised a killer twist but I saw the twist coming all along. It seemed patently obvious to me from the way the prologue was written what the ending would be, and so I was hoping for some extra twist to surprise me. Perhaps a case where even knowing there's a twist spoils the book a bit!

Very well written, though, and I'd read more from this author.

Thanks Netgalley for the free e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
Hattie & Penny, sisters, 'thick as thieves!'
Abandoned by their Father, and robbed of their Mother as a result of a tragic accident, utterly dependent on one another.
Bound by a murder, which marks the beginning of the secrets and lies between them.
The author opens the story describing a female running from a fire, which is enough to hook the reader in.
I really liked how the characters developed as the story unravels, and very early on I cared about what might happen. There are some wonderful characters in the story, which made the plot all the more believable.
The plot is set at a steady pace, and although some parts were predictable the ending was not rushed. And, what an ending!
I loved the narrative, and writing style, in particular the story being told by Penny.
A thoroughly enjoyable read! I'm looking forward to reading more from Laurie Petrou
