Darcy Andrews loves her guitar, Darlene, but knows that her family could use the money. She pawns her guitar because her brother, Quinn, has an addiction and needs to go to rehab.

Darcy ends up giving guitar lessons to one of the most popular boys in her school, Grey.

This story is “not quite the same old song”. This book deals with family dynamics where money is an issue, addiction is discussed openly, and the socioeconomic differences between the characters is mentioned. This book also mentions the body image issues that Darcy deals with.

This is my first read from Lindsey Ouimet, and I’m looking forward to seeing what she writes next!

I really don’t know where to begin, how can I put these emotions into coherent words?

I am in love.

I’ve just finished reading this beauty after not really knowing where this was going to end and oh my goodness my heart is full and sloshy, the happiness and sheer love for this story is unbelievably unexplainable.

First off Darcy and Grey are just adorable together and throughout this book I couldn’t keep a smile off my face, I laughed and well cried a good few times, actually even got mad at Grey but that was soon washed away. I was probably far too invested in their relationships and I hoped and prayed they’d get their shit together and have that forever after like they deserved.
I thoroughly enjoyed Darcy as a character, her wit and down right bluntness was refreshing especially alongside her confidence throughout the book, I loved the fact that she didn’t shy away from pointing out how people looked at her. The part at the concert when she kept repeating what Maddie said was a very powerful thing and a great personal pick me up.

My only negative is quite a selfish one with being that I would love to have read more about what happened after Grey sang, what about His dad, how did he feel about their relationship? I would love to have known more about what happened to the band after they all left for college, did it continue or was it just a hobby?

Going to be honest and say I read this book in a few hours because I just couldn’t put the book down, I was so invested in where the characters where going to end up. This book will definitely be a favourite of mine and I’ll probably read it over again a few times more.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity of reading this book, I’ll definitely be recommending this to others.
