If you're a fan of the Hunger Games and Divergent book series, this series is for you. This is Book 2 of the series however, I didn't read the first book and still thoroughly enjoyed every page. The beginning (as with most series books) was very much a reminder of the last book and setting the scene, this meant that it could be quite repetitive for those that had read the first book. However, this is such an easy read and I would love to follow the series. I would give it a 3.5 (4 stars on here if I round up) out of 5 purely due to me feeling like I've read this similar story line before, however, I would still recommend this series. As it is a great alternative to the Hunger games, and easy reading.

I have to admit that I had not read Gambit when I requested Mimic, so I did have to go back and read Gambit before I could read this and give it a fair review. I was very hopeful i'd enjoy the series as science fiction / fantasy isn't my normal go to.. But what a surprise!

Willow is a 16 year old out with unique abilites. The author made her "abilities" and world seem SO realistic...

Everything was WELL WRITTEN! I would definitely read others by this author and like this book.

Willow is a real teenager. Man, the stupid things she does! And that is what makes her real, and relatable to an extend. During all that she has to deal with, all that she goes through, she remains a person with flaws as well as strengths. I often wanted to shout to her while reading, 'don't be stupid!'. At those moments I hated her, and loved her at the same time.

Very good writing with many twists and turns. The fight scenes in this book are beautifully depicted. Cannot wait to read more.

Political, human superheroes, and intrigue-this book is a fabulous follow-up and I am looking forward to more!

I read «Gambit» by C.L. Denaut in early 2017 and was intrigued by the new take on our world! It was one of the main reasons why I couldn’t put the first book down – the setting and the plot stole 100% of my attention. I mentioned in my review of the first book how I didn’t like the main character and the second book didn’t change my opinion.

I love the world that C.L.Denault created – the incredible powers and their source that we weren’t told everything about yet; the political power of prodigies and all the possibilities of political intrigues yet to come.

I want to see how Willow can develop her powers, and also what she can do with her political status. Is she as good as manipulating people as she claimed herself to be? Or will she be able to motivate them to do better? These are the main points I’d like for the next books to focus on!

Unfortunately, All the previous “negative” things that I mentioned in my review of the first book are still there. Willow is the same annoying “no-one understands me” teenager. She has a lot of growing up to do, and hopefully, in the next books, she’ll finally reign her temper and start caring about someone other than herself. Throughout the whole book, I kept wondering how she could be so heartless, careless and stupid. Arrghh!

So I know it was my fault, but I haven't read the first one!!!
It took me a couple of chapters to realize and then work out who all the character's were and their relationships with each other!!
It didn't stop me enjoying this book though, I was worried that it felt like a filler book (like is the case with a lot of middle books in a trilogy) as there wasn't much action until right at the end, setting up for the next book!!!
Also considering the title is 'Mimic' I was expecting the mimic to show up more / have more of a role in the book, so I was a little disappointed with that. Overall I liked it, and I'm now going to read the first one and get ready for the epic ending (which I can tell is coming!!!)

And will she ever be able to fit in the shoes of her impostor Morrigan? When you are sixteen and struggling with all of this, in addition to learning about your new skills, it’s a lot to manage.

Willow, Reece, Morry, Fenn, Gem and the others are each individual and special. Willow’s relationship with her biological mother Morry is tenuous. Not unusual for a teenage girl to struggle with her mother, but Morry is a piece of work. She has hired ice cold Commander Kristoffe to watch over Willow, and she seems to take pleasure in every misstep of Willow’s. Fenn, her biological father, wants to be her father in every way. Yet he is Morry’s companion and puts her wishes ahead of Willow’s. Commander Reece is the beautiful and steady officer that was in charge of Willow. Willow, has completely fallen for him, in addition to bargaining with Morry for his continued service to the House of Roanoke. And sweet Gem is Willow’s only real friend in this new world. As a servant, Gem can only do so much, but without her, Willow would be lost. Denault’s character development is brilliant and allows the reader to feel their emotions and substance.

I completely loved this story about Willow and life in dystopian England in the mid 21st century. Having not read book one, I was concerned I might be a bit lost, but Denault does a wonderful job of explaining and recapping what had happened previously. While I will most definitely go back and read book one now, you could read this as a standalone. But why would you want to? With such an amazing setting and characters, Mimic and The Prodigy Series fill every YA and dystopian fan’s dreams.

This was an enthralling sci-fi full of action and adventure! I didn’t really know what to expect as I started reading this, I went in completely blind. I’m so glad I did! It was riveting!

I wish I would have read the first book, I didn't know this was a sequel! But I got through it. Hundreds of years into the future and people have evolved into almost super human beings? Sounds like what they are already predicting. The society takes away people who are "normal". There's a lot of warring going on. Something Willow, doesn't understand but is in the middle of it and sometimes makes mistakes that cause chaos. I dislike her mother! But Reece? Yum. There'll be a third book for sure. Love the cover, butterflies can mimic each other.

Wonderful follow-up to 'Gambit.' Just as with the series opener, the complex and developed characters were the best part of this book; their motives, their secrets, their interactions. Author C.L. Denault’s characters kept me guessing right until the new cliff-hanger ending; not a bit was predictable. The plot moved forward at a comfortably steady pace, never a dull moment, and nothing felt rushed or forced.

‘Mimic’ is available now; a must-read for fans of well-written YA romance, adventure, or dystopia with developed characters and settings.

First, I have to mention that I love the cover art. So eye catching! Mimic is a sequel, and I liked it equally as well as the first book in the series. Willow definitely has some growing up to do, but it's part of her characterization that she continues to develop maturity. She is well written with just enough angst for a teenager. The story develops at a steady pace with action enough to maintain intrest. The motivations of all characters are questionable, and the story will leave you wondering who to trust. Overall, I enjoyed Mimic.

My Thoughts - Story
I requested this book through NetGalley without reading the first book in the series, so after I was approved for an ARC – I immediately had to purchase “Gambit” to start the story…and the whole time I was praying that I would like the story.

How excited I was when as soon as I started reading Gambit…I was hooked. I couldn’t put the book down and fell in love with Willow (well, I can’t say love cause she is a spoiled brat and ends up getting everyone in trouble). And….this didn’t stop in the second book either. She was just as bad – every time you would think she got the hint and was ready to grow up and do the right thing…she would fly off the handle and start making bad decisions.

I love the characters in this book – they all have been developed and are very easy to relate to. Commander Reece is perfect and he comes across as the silent brooding type. Just enough patience to put up with Willow – now that’s true love!

There are secrets everywhere in this book and I can’t wait to find them out in the next book in this series!

I liked this, but was disappointed, I didn't think it was as good as the first. It didn't seem to go anywhere, too much discussion and not enough action in this one. It was still really enjoyable and a good read, I just felt it was lacking compared to the first book. But I will still read more and hopefully it will get back to the standard of the first in the next book

Finally! After patiently waiting I was able to get hold of the second book. Sadly, it did not exceeded my expectation since the first book was really great. More like DAMN GOOD. I enjoyed reading this book, but not as much as I enjoyed the first one. Whereas the first book was packed with action and a total page turner, the second book lacked the action I was looking for. It is safe to say that maybe because the second book was primary an introductory about what life is inside the Core. Still, I very much enjoyed how Willow was starting to manifest her skills. And how powerful and promising she could be on the coming sequels. There are chapters that would really keep you on edge, sometimes I found myself very eager for some Protagonist to drop dead. Hahaha.

This sequel will surely make you question who are the real enemies and who are an ally among the characters. There are a-lot of intriguing questions surrounding Willow’s powers.

Overall, it is a good book. And I will surely be waiting for 3rd book. I just wish it will be soon enough after the cliffhanger at the end. ☺️❤️

The plot of the book is thrilling with great world building. I held onto my breath with each turn of the page.

I loved how the author went about developing the protagonist's abilities in a way that seemed far too realistic. For a while, I really believed in the fantasy world that C.L. Denault had built.

Most of all, I loved Willow's relationship with Commander Reece. He's selfless and protects her without asking a thing in return.

The book leaves you wondering what everyone's motivations are and who we can truly trust. I can't wait to be able to read the next installment of the series.

Wow! This novel was a great sequel to the first book in the series! The plot thickens as Willow Kent develops her abilities, discovering ones that surpass expectations. Her powers are developing, with the help of her tiger. Willow can be a "brat", but what 16 year old who was uprooted from the only life she has ever know would be amicable to that? Willow develops her relationship with Commander Reece, both attracted to the other. However, Willow is engaged. Reece continues to protect Willow, even if it does not always appear so. Willow is keeping secrets though, and it has an impact on her, for she will be torn when various situations happen throughout the novel. The arrival of new Commander has an effect on Willow, for she senses something off about him. Willow knows her mother is up to something, but does not know all of what she intends to accomplish. Willow does not completely trust her parents, yet there are few people she can trust. With Mercer still attacking, anyone can be working for the enemy and anyone can betray. Who's side is everyone on and what is their end game? Looking forward to the next novel in the series!
